Quick chapter two!

The next morning Cobalt woke before anyone else it seemed. Changing back into his jeans and dark gray shirt from the previous day, he gathered his bag and set off for the kitchen. He grabbed an apple and set off for the locker rooms.

The room was huge. Even though they weren't even going to be starting the day for another hour, he wanted time to check his equipment. Plus in the night, his anxiousness got the better of him. He strode down the various rows of weapons lockers to the one he put Harbinger in. It was the best name he could think of for his multipurpose weapon. Cobalt opened the locker and pulled out the bulky rifle. What was his fathers had passed to him when he died. And years after keeping it the same, a couple years ago he finally had set about updating the weapon. Being a Huntsman was more than knowing how to kill evil creatures. You had to create your own weapon. Not just for having something custom made, but something that you could maintain because you designed it. No one weapon of a true Huntsman or Huntress had a true copy. Sure, you can go to a weapons store and buy or mod, but it wasn't the same. Everyone had a unique style. Cobalt sat on one of the stone benches and pulled a soft red rag out of his bag. He set to work polishing the jet black body of the rifle, occasionally stopping to take a bite of the apple. One of the phrases that his father had told him time and again stuck in his mind. 'Every Huntsman can team up. Sometimes it's necessary for survival. However, all need to be self sufficient. Otherwise you get in the way and get good people killed.' Cobalt choked back his internal demon of pain and snapped to reality. Some of the students were already grabbing their weapons.

"All first years students report to the cliff for initiation," Cobalt heard over the speakers. Securing Harbinger on his back, and grudgingly leaving his pack in his locker, he headed for the exit. Out on the cliff he met Professor Ozbin and Goodwitch, for the second time now. After brief introductions, a notice of evaluations, and teams, he said good luck.

"Live, or die. It's your choice down there." Ozbin stated flatly. His tone was calm, and seemed to instill caution. One by one, the students were launched into the air.

Air whipped past his face as he tumbled through the air. He let the momentum carry him further out than the others, feeling the energy around him. He waited till he started drifting to the ground and activated his semblance.

All semblances are unique. Speed and super strength were common for semblances, but they all had their own variation of it. Cobalts was an interesting semblance to adapt to combat and defense. Even more so for a useful ability. Cobalt had an interesting effect on gravity and forces in motion. Momentum was by far the strangest one he had even heard of, and he sad even heard of one guy being able to shape shift into a Grimm. Just before hitting the ground, he pulled all the force and momentum out of his fall. Stopping just before he hit the ground, he walked along the forest floor like he hand just been on a leisurely stroll, not a launch pad that threw him God knows how far.

'Temple shouldn't be too far,' Cobalt thought as he retrieved Harbinger. His senses stretched, hunting for anything that would not be his fellow classmates. While he was curious to see who his partner would be, he knew he would find them eventually. Grimm however were more unpredictable. Hearing a scuffle in the trees not too far behind, he dropped Harbinger to just his right hand, and used his left to push a bush aside.

Goldie practically launched herself out of the trees into his chest, brown hair flaring behind her. They fell to the ground, but Cobalt had just enough time to suck the force out of the tackle. He landed softly to the grass. A moment later, Goldie had jumped up, apologizing so fast it almost seemed like a different language.

"Calm down," Cobalt said, harshly. He got up and dusted myself off.

"I'm so terribly sorry," Goldie said quietly. "I just... I haven't spent much time solo, that's why I'm here with my brother. I'm still not very good on my own and when I saw you over here and I saw my brother talking to you so you must be a good person or at least I hope you are I'm sure you are..."

The words slowly shifted to a sound of stammering and talking too fast. Cobalt sighed. She had a good heart. There was a time and place for introductions though.

"Focus," Cobalt said as calmly as he could. He did his best not to let his minor annoyance show through on his voice. Immediately she stopped and smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry," she said softly. She retrieved two small intricately carved sticks from her belt, and a 10 foot ribbon of whitish yellow appeared from the ends of each. Guessing this was her weapon, Cobalt nodded and lead the way through the forest.

True to Cobalts guess, the ruined temple came to view in a clearing head. So far, no Grimm had dare showed its red eyes. He crouched down as he surveyed the area. If this was a trap, he wanted no part of it.

Cobalt felt hot breath on the back of his neck. His eyes shot wide, and held still.

"Goldie?"

"Yes?"

"Ever heard of a personal bubble?"

"I'm not touching you. Unless I'm standing too close..." Goldie's voice started to trail off, but Cobalt realized she was not behind him, but next to him. Cobalt gulped. He flattened himself to the ground just as the jaws of an Ursa snapped over him. Quickly switching to the forearm blades, he plunged both into the Ursa and twisted once imbedded deep in the flesh. The Ursa groaned and fell on top of Cobalt. He winced.

Cobalt had enough of a view to see the second Ursa rounding on Goldie. 'Always in pairs...' He struggled to free himself quickly and protect his partner.

He need not have fretted. As Goldie spun the ribbons in the air, the ribbons extended out and latched to the Ursa's front legs. A twitch from the sticks, and it jerked the forelegs and shoulders to the ground. Then with one hearty pull, yanked the Ursa up and over her head, smacking it into the ground. It didn't move again.

Cobalt finished crawling out when Goldie used a ribbon to pull the Ursa off him. Cobalt nodded, no longer wondering about his partners combat ability.

"Let's get the relic and get out of here." Goldie nodded in agreement. They rushed to the ruins and grabbed what looked like a little silver car.

The rest of the mission happened without event. Cobalt had even put Harbinger back together and set it on his back. Goldie talked about her family as they walked back to the cliff. A couple times Cobalt was tempted to go back and find everyone else, but he kept pushing forward. 'It's their own initiation, they need to do this for themselves.' In the distance, Cobalt heard the echoes and tremors of combat. Goldie seemed oblivious, her nervousness seeming to be melting away.

Cobalt let a smile creep onto his face. Hope stirred within his chest, something he hadn't felt in a long time. At long last, he finally felt like he had a purpose beyond killing Grimm.

As I said, quick chapter two. Hope everyone is enjoying it so far.
