Into Reality Ch. 14 - Old Reunions and Unfulfilled Promises ...

Author's Note:

Hello everyone... *cricket* *cricket*... right... I have been away for a ludicrous amount of time. So I'm going to skip the formalities and talk briefly about what I plan to do with this series.

Over the two something years that spanned between chapter 14 and 15, I have been conducting serious studies in regards to government work, physics, biology, and most importantly English - all in an attempt to make this story feel more engaging. In addition, I have been experimenting with countless timelines of where I wanted this story to go, but I just couldn't settle on a single direction for the eon trio to go in. What I have decided was how the story will end.

Spoiler alert... it's not how you think it will end... I swear...

Random person: "That wasn't a spoiler!"

Me: Of course it wasn't... ... or was it? O.o

Anyways, the frequency of these videos will not be as quick as I once managed to pull off, but I am setting it in my schedule to complete, at the bare minimum, a chapter a month.

Random Person: "What!? That's rediculous!"

Me: "I have my reasons. Now that I'm a first year college student I am still getting myself readjusted to college life. But, to say the least, being in college has only strengthened my desire and inspired me even more to continue the story I once dreamed of when I was younger... so without further ado it's time to save a friend!" ...

Previously:

I refocused on the person in front of me. It was still a blur...

What's going on? ...

'Finish the deed Raid.' I said from the back of the room...

"Well then, if you've granted me permission, then I must ask… what are you?"

Raid cooed acknowledging and growled at the crippled prey on the ground. This time, tucking in both paws, a ball of light and purple energy formed in front of him...

Marlon looked into the question. Soon he found himself pacing back in forth around Sam. Several moments went by before Marlon stopped in front of Sam smiling. "Wow, we're barely one question in and I don't know how to answer. Is there a specific answer you're looking for?"...

"What exactly is going on?" Sam asked, clearly unable to understand what was going on...

"Sir, Kevin and his men have been lost from the radar. Their knee radars aren't responding, and we've lost all communication with the men on the outside…" The man talking to Raid made a noticeable, gulp. "Sir… I also regret to inform you that the main target has also started moving… but in the opposite direction of this base."...

There was only one thing running through both Raid's and my mind…

Latias…

Present:

Sam sighed. "If you are planning on going out there, you'll need some sort of protection from the sand." Reaching behind one of the desks, Sam pulled out two face masks and handed them over to the two of us.

Telepathically taking the masks from Sam's hands we each inspected the devices. Unlike normal respirators with large circular filters designed to fit a human head, these were full face transparent masks with a black lining around the ends that molded perfectly with our heads with the filters ingeniously integrated, hidden behind the ears. At first the masks appeared to be unclear, but after putting them on, the screen that covered our heads lit up blue and the world became clear and vivid.

But before any of us could tell what was going on, a loud alarm rung out in the garage and the large steel reinforced doors began to open allowing large volumes of sand to rush into the garage.

Sam's voice rang out in our helmets, "If you want to find your friend, you're going to need to start moving. I'll explain everything as you go, but you need to move. Hurry before your friend is lost.

As the sand became thicker and thicker with the doors opening more and more the world became darker and darker as Raid and I slowly exited the garage into the dark hell that awaited us outside.

Immediately a line streamed horizontally across our faces. As the wind could be heard roaring around our heads, Sam's voice reappeared, "You should be seeing the horizontal plane now on your H.U.D. This display will indicate what your orientation to the ground is."

Raid and I cooed into the headsets. 'Got it.'

"Okay, the bar on your left tells you how high you are in relation to the ground. This along with the forward ground analysis computer built into the helmet will allow you to see terrain ahead of you even with all the sand so use that to avoid colliding with the ground."

I looked over to my right where Raid was the last time I saw him. To my interest, Raid's helmet lit up on my visor and displayed his relative distance from me.

"Good, now you both know how to use the personal I.D. tagging device installed in the helmets. I'm uploading the waypoint to your objective now."

A yellow tag appeared out in the horizon. "This will be your waypoint to the last known location of the men. You will need to recover as many of them first before you go after the primary objective."

Immediately a part of me wanted to yell out in rejection, but I knew what Sam's intentions were.

"I'll be watching you're flight paths from the operations room so start moving. Every second wasted could be her last."

With that Raid and I nodded heads, raised a psychic field around us and blasted off into the darkness.

As we raced across the sand slopes, the terrain was laid out in front of us in the form of digital dots highlighting slopes and rises in the ground ahead of us. Even at a pace of about 100 miles an hour, the visors quickly adjusted our speed variations, relaying information quickly enough to our visors for us to see and make corrections. As Raid took his spot along my right wing, we were quickly traversing the rugged rough terrain with the waypoint rapidly approaching.

Just as we were beginning to get a feel for the visors, Sam's voice reappeared into our helmets. "Those helmets are custom respirators specifically designed with your facial features in mind. They have a 48 hour filter service rating, but even that won't suffice to survive in so you'll want to be efficient. Kevin was wearing a beacon before he left the base so you'll have to search for that beacon. Simply look in a direction and the helmet will scan for the beacon. "

Raid and I cooed back into the helmets, 'Got it.'

'Marlon do you think there'll be any survivors when we get there?'

'I don't know, we have to remain positive. Any bit of help we can get can make a difference in this whole mess so let's do what we can first.'

'Okay. But, I'm still more worried about rescuing Latias. She's still out there on her own…'

'I know Raid… I know… just focus on what's in front of us first. We'll be going after her soon enough. Let's just rescue Kevin and his men first before we make our move to get Latias, okay?'

'Okay. I understand.'

With under a thousand feet to the way point Raid and I ascended over our target. The helmet quickly doing a terrain scan underlining the sandy terrain below us and scanning for the beacon. Little by little Raid and I searched left and right looking for some sort of signal as to where the beacon was. The sand was still roaring around us but amongst the rising concern about Latias, Raid and I were both becoming more and more concerned with each passing second.

The helmets weren't showing any sign of the men anywhere nor the beacon. This could only mean one thing. The helmets were limited to things on the surface, so the beacon must be underground along with the rest of the men. Quickly, Raid caught the thought and we both dove down to the sandy earth below and began burying our paws into the ground as the helmets lit up to highlight the ground as best as it could.

'I don't see anyone.' Raid yelled over the radio.

'Neither do I. Just keep digging.' I said driving another paw deep into the ground.

Raid and I continued our search, even with all the sand blowing around us, our ferocity grew as we dug deeper into the ground, driving each of our paws deep into the deep sandy soil, before yanking them out to one side, only to repeat the process again and again at a rapid pace - each second made us more anxious and worried as the sand quickly filled the holes we made.

Sand, sand, and more sand… Sand was the only thing in sight, and despite neither Raid nor I being able to fully see what we were digging, the only thing we knew for sure was there was sand.

'When this is all over, remind me never to go to the beach again.' Raid joked into the radio with a hint of worry.

'Funny but stay focused.' I replied to Raid.

Digging foot after foot, nothing could be seen, but just as things seemed to be getting nowhere, Raid's helmet flashed brightly. 'Marlon, I think I got something.'

Immediately, I dropped what I was doing and flew over alongside Raid who was picking out a yellow device.

'It's the beacon… but where's Kevin?' Raid asked.

I cooed worryingly.

Raid was lost, asking himself, "What should we do?", "Where should we look?" "Do we really need them? ... But where are they?"

Seeing Raid beginning to freak out, I put a paw on my shoulder. 'Relax. Take a deep breath, I have an idea. Trust me. Close your eyes and link up.'

Raid nodded, took a deep breath and calmed down. Closing his eyes. I followed the same and began focusing on Raid's energy as he did the same to me. As we both found each other's energy our eyes glowed bright light blue with our combined energies, and the world around us grew bright blue.

We began looking around, our minds in complete sync and energy tightly focused together. But, just as we were looking around a darker shade of red was glowing out of the ground in our eyes. Immediately Raid and I dove towards the object and begun digging ferociously. Within seconds, piles of sand were unearthed and heaved aside and a leg and arm were found sticking out. Reaching for the arm and leg, Raid and I pulled the body out from the sand. But just as we were done pulling the body out, my mind felt a sharp sting as Raid and my mind disconnected.

The two of us dropped to the ground, panting for air as our respirators worked hard to clear the sandy air and provide us with oxygen. Remaining in sync boosted our abilities and synced our minds so that tasks like scanning for life forms from a distance, below the surface were much clearer and effective. However, the immense focus required along with strength and concentration, severely impacting our ability to remain in a tight focus, and in this case shattered our link.

Just as Raid and I were recovering, the object we'd pulled out began moving.

'Raid move!' I yelled.

Under instinct, Raid and I quickly took off from the sand barrel rolling backwards, assuming a rotating, circular, safe attack position and distance away from the possible threat.

Just as the helmet was scanning the object, body features like equipment and then facial details were being analyzed despite the raging sandstorm around us, familiar face appeared on the visor once scans were complete.

'It's Kevin!' Raid yelled.

Being sure of our target, we neared cautiously until we could barely make out a U.S. flag patch on the shoulder of the man's suit. Once within "clear" visual range, Kevin could be seen on his knees, trying to wrap his head with a handkerchief. Dropping our guard, lowering our claws, we lent out a paw each and helped Kevin onto his feet.

"What took you two so long?" Kevin's hoarse voice suddenly appeared into our heads.

It was like Sam talking but Kevin didn't have any electronics on him as far as our helmets could tell.

"Cheek, radio implant." Kevin gestured. "Never knew when something like that would be handy. Don't worry about the rest of the men, they're all dead. Those P.L.'s killed them all." Kevin finished with a hint of disgust.

While this explained for Kevin being the only living thing in sight when Raid and I were in sync, his anger expressed in his voice resonated clearly.

"We almost had her! Those P.L.'s knew we were going try to rescue her, so they planned an ambush, and a pretty smart one too. I'll give 'em that."

Kevin turned to us seeing the barely visual lights on our visors. "I'm sorry, but you don't have much time," glancing at his watch, "by my guess, the P.L. have a base near here somewhere but if you start moving now you'll still have time. You've got to go now!"

Raid protested that Kevin should come along but I refused to leave him stranded behind especially in the poor mental condition he was in. Scanning the horizon, a Humvee flipped on its side came into view on the H.U.D.

Quickly I flew over to the side of the Humvee and applied a hard psychic pull to flip the truck right side up. With a bit of concentration the Humvee was righted. Then a light push sent the truck rolling towards Kevin.

"Perfect! Thanks. I'll take this back to the base, I've got my radio scanner on so I can find my way back to base. Go! Don't worry about me start moving! I'll find some way to pay you back later but you need to start moving!"

With little protest now, Raid formed up on me and we both watched as Kevin drove off opposite of the way we came.

"Good work, you managed to save Kevin. The primary objective is now being sent to your helmet." Just as Sam's voice disappeared, a new yellow tag appeared. This time with a much more important tag in mind.

'Let's go. Quickly!'

With little time left, the objective being much further away than the last, and moving further away, Raid and I took off once more.

The sandstorm showed no sign of letting up as we rocketed through the great sandy plains and rapidly approached our targets, much faster than before, traveling at a speed of 300 miles per hour.

Being cautious of our approach the two of us hugged the deck and flew close to the ground as we broke the sand barrier in front of us.

The miles indicating the distance to the target were rapidly decreasing with each second. In the several minutes it took us to approach the target we were now within effective, long range attacking range.

'No more playing around. Now it's personal.' Raid telepathed.

Ascending rapidly once more, Raid and I scanned the ground below. There were trucks on the move. A flat bed with a large tarp covering the back was traveling over a smoother part of the sandy terrain while several other, smaller trucks including two smaller armed trucks with light anti-aircraft guns were formed around the central flat bed.

'Target confirmed.' We both telepathed.

Even from a distance, I could feel Latias's aura vibrating with just enough life to be felt. Although, I couldn't tell if she was fully aware of her situation or if she was still knocked out, but regardless of the situation, Raid and I were now in prime attacking position, high above the enemy and completely shrouded by the sandstorm, perfect for a surprise aerial ground attack run. But yet something felt off.

At first I dismissed it as this being my first ever field ground attack run, but Raid's suspicions quickly made me reconsider.

'Uh, Marlon is it just me or does something feel off?' Raid asked.

Just before I was about to call out an attack formation, I stopped to reconsider.

'Yah. I thought it was just me but if you feel it too then I wonder… what made you think something was wrong?' I asked.

'Just before Kevin disappeared, I peeked into his memories to see what happened. The last thing he saw a bright light before blacking out.'

'You sure that wasn't just one of the P.L. hitting him in the back of the head?'

'Somehow I don't think so… it didn't seem like the kind when you or I see when we get knocked out. We just see a quick flash of light before things get dark. But Kevin's was much longer.'

Just as Raid mentioned the light, I sight-shared the same memory. Raid was right, something seemed out of place, it was too short to be considered something like our luster purge, but it was also too long to be considered an immediate blackout.

But regardless of what we thought, Latias was right below us and we were bent on getting her back, no matter the danger.

As Raid and I formed a joint assault plan, switching off our helmet lights by tapping the side of the helmet and assumed our positions.

'Raid. Hope you still remember the combat routines we practiced. Just because Latias isn't with us doesn't mean we're out of the fight.'

'Yah, I still remember our little tricks.'

'Good, prep. for attack formation Yeta.'

'On it.' With that Raid detached formation and took off backwards into the darkness gaining a substantial altitude while I climbed over the targets.

Just as I was beginning to gather energy between my paws to unleash fury, the convoy stopped dead in its tracks.

'Marlon, I'm preparing for my attack run.'

But then a bad aura flew over me tingling my senses. 'Wait, something's wrong. The convoy stopped.'

'Stuck? Perfect, it'll be like hitting coconuts on the sandy beach back on the Haven.'

'No. They all stopped together.' At that the scanners were picking up movement of men exiting the trucks and ducking against the ground.

'Moving in now. Dragon pulse is ready.'

'Wait… I think I…. WAIT! RAID SHUT YOUR EY-!'

A massive shockwave overcame the whole area and a blinding light overcame the darkness. My attack dissipated instantly while the shockwave alone sent me careening towards the ground. The aerial blast caused the lighting to suddenly change sending my sensitive eyes into shock, but even while I was blind, I managed to force my way into the air once more after picking myself off of the sandy basin.

Grunting, I refused to be knocked down again. Not when it was this important. Immediately before I did anything, on instinct my psychic barriers re-formed around me as my energy grew along with my anger, while my scanners begun searching for Raid.

The men on the ground were now manning the AA guns and were beginning to spray ammunition into the dust filled air. Dodging quickly I took cover low to the ground, circling around the convoy as it continued to spray the area with bullets and dim lit tracers.

Keeping one eye on the target and the other aware of Raid's location, according to the scanner, Raid had apparently crashed into a dune near one of the trucks of the convoy opposite of my current position in relation to the AA guns.

My priorities were laid out before me on the H.U.D.: protect the objective, neutralize the threat, rescue the target and return to base…

…but my instincts acted first…

Act quickly and don't get spotted… 'Eliminate them all.' A voice said in my head.

As if under a trance despite still being somewhat blind to what lay in front of me, my natural instinct kicked in and I shut my eyes.

Technology could only react so fast, but I was quicker. Springing from my cover, I charged the men at the AA guns and with one quick strike collided with one of the men with a solid iron wing to the man's chest sending him flying. But before his partner could turn to realize what was going on, a quick barrel roll over him placed me directly in front of him. With a hard closed paw, I blasted forward with force to send an excruciating jab through the man chest, sending him tumbling across the sandy floor.

The men must have been wearing radios because despite the roaring wind going on, the AA guns were pointing my way and tearing up the ground as they aimed at me. Acting quickly. I somersaulted through the air, simultaneously charging a dragon pulse and took aim at the AA gun further away. With ferocity filling my veins, I launched the attack. In slow motion the concentrated energy ball flew through the air straight towards its helpless target while I simultaneously reached for the gunner nearest to me and telepathically ripped him from the gunner's seat. Using what little energy was required, I dual mindedly began to operate the unoccupied turrets while I engaging the remaining ground forces.

With the turret shooting other enemy soldiers and me unleashing a whole new hell of my own, men continued yelling over the roaring sand shooting blindly at the last spot they saw me. Grenades were beginning to be thrown. But while these were harmless to me, they weren't for Latias who still lay in the middle of the convoy. Each of the men surrounding Latias desperately took their positions in an attempting to defend their "package" with their lives.

Using the turret to clean up the remaining targets surrounding the other vehicles I quickly charged another dragon pulse and hurled it at the radio communications truck, knocking out their communications completely. While the men were still shooting their rifles into the air, the bullets harmlessly bounced off my barrier. Seeing an opportunity, I used my shield to my advantage. Charging each of the men with blistering speed, I rammed the now panicking men straight the ground. Spinning in place (like a dog chasing its tail) I used the momentum built up in my wings, combined with the hardened qualities of my iron wings to send those surrounding me far into the darkness.

With little time to waste and my adrenaline pumping, I quickly focused on what my instincts were telling me. Quickly, manipulating the AA gun, I formed a protective psychic barrier over Latias, and with a large burst of speed I flew over to Raid who was beginning to sink blow the rising sand.

Immediately, I slapped him across the head. 'Wake up! We don't have much time!'

No response from Raid. His energy was still strong but he was physically unresponsive.

'Raid get up now! Latias needs us, get up now!' I yelled, slapping him across the head again.

This time he stirred.

Quickly getting underneath him, I used my neck to leverage him into the air. 'Get up! Stay focused, we're not out of this yet!

Seeing Raid quickly shake off the dizziness, gaining some altitude before taking off upwards away from the combat zone below to regain central awareness.

'Now hurry, I'm manipulating the AA gun but I need you to clean up the remaining hostiles.'

'Okay, let's unleash hell.'

In a burst of speed I blasted into the air once more directly over the remaining targets and prepared my original attack once more, releasing the AA gun from my psychic grip. Once more energy began to form in front of me between my paws.

'Attack formation Yeta please!' I ordered.

'Got it. Diving in now.' Raid quickly responded.

As Raid built up speed and prepared his own attack, mine was fully complete. Before me was a golden ball of concentrated energy which would make the sky rain with meteors.

As much as this was not something I wanted to do deep down inside, outside my mind was saying "'finish' them".

Giving little thought, I aimed my attack downwards and released the energy I'd built up. Immediately, the sky lit up. Golden streams of clustered energy hurled itself towards the ground at an exceedingly quick speed. From the one ball of energy I created, dozens were now hurling themselves towards the ground, and guided by a bit of psychic energy, each attack collided with its corresponding target just as Raid re-entered the combat zone unleashing hell on his own terms with his own close combat variant, filled subsonic jabs, rams, and pulverizing uppercuts. From his clenched paws to his wings, Raid exploited everything he had to knocking the enemy off their feet and putting them down as quickly as possible.

As hell rained from above, the meteor shower destroyed surrounding trucks, each erupting in a massive explosion before being quickly doused by the raging sandstorm, Raid and I coordinated between air strikes and ground attacks to quickly sweep the remaining enemy force from its feet. With the level of chaos unfolding, Raid and I were hoping the shockwaves alone would get Latias to stir and wake up, but to no avail. She was definitely under the tarp covering her but she remained unresponsive.

As the number of men dwindled from, 80, 50, 12, 1, to 0…

Descended from above, I assessed the damage while Raid moved towards the flatbed. Wasting no time he drew a dragon claw and sliced through the thick rope holding the tarp over the top. The downed men were in no condition to press on. All were critically injured and wounded. I made my hopes that they would see the light in a different way. I'd definitely had my share of expressing my rage for one day.

The storm raged on around us and the world became dark once more as fires were doused by the lack of oxygen in the sand-filled air.

A light tap to the side of our helmets quickly reactivated the integrated lights. As Raid cut the last rope holding the tarp on one side the wind alone tore the tarp off the opposite side revealing a red figure in its place. Upon close inspection, the body appeared to be fully intact with no damage down what so ever. With two red wings, two extending paws, a long slender neck to her graceful looking head, and two sets of red tailfins, the sight of the young creature quickly became overwhelming… it almost brought a tear to my eye.

Latias was alive.

But before I could do anything, Sam's voice quickly filled our helmets. "Good, you secured the target. But before you do anything, look over the target with the helmet. It will automatically find any electronics attached to her and shut them off remotely."

Doing as I was instructed, I looked over Latias. The scanner was moving left and right over her body, searching for some sort of device. Just as I completely looked over her, a yellow dot appeared on my H.U.D. near the tip of her right wing.

'Raid are you seeing this?'

'Yah, but what is it?'

"I thought so. A tracking beacon. But it's attached to the surface, hold on and let the helmet shut the beacon down." Sam responded.

I locked my sight on the yellow dot and in seconds the dot disappeared form the visor.

"Perfect, the beacon was disabled, now no matter what she can't be tracked by the enemy or us, so don't lose her. See if you can wake her up. Preparations to evacuate the base are already commencing."

'Evacuation?!' I asked, confused.

"Seeing that the area is now compromised, we will be making arrangements to move to our F.O.B. elsewhere."

'And where exactly is that?'

"See if you can wake her up, if not, you'll need to carry her back to base."

I rolled my eyes, quickly remembering that Sam couldn't understand Lati. Redirecting my attention to Latias, Raid was already trying to get her to wake up. But she remained unresponsive. Regardless of the situation, Raid helped me place Latias on my back to carry back to base.

But as he was loading her onto my back, I realized that she was a bit heavier than I last remembered. Ignoring the idea we pressed on as Raid kept a psychic barrier over the three of us as we quickly retraced our steps towards home base.

Behind me, Raid continued trying to get his sister to wake asking, 'Please Latias, wake up. We're safe now. Just wake up. It's me, big brother… Latios.'

Despite not receiving any real response we pressed deeper into the darkness as our helmets provided us with the direction back to base. According to our helmets, we'd spend nearly five hours outside of the base, but time was something we didn't want to mess with as we pressed further back towards the base.

'Marlon, remind me next time to practice more with our Luster Purges. That light really got me!' Raid stated.

'Yah, I'll make note of that.' Deciding to refocus the topic, I asked, 'How's she look?'

'Okay, she doesn't seem to be hurt. Good thing for the P.L., otherwise I would have done some unspeakable things to them for hurting her!' Raid stated with a threatening voice.

'Keep calm. We still need to get her back to base… and then back home.'

'But what do you think that bright light was? It was exactly like the one that Kevin saw before getting knocked out.'

'I don't know but all I know is….' But then, something hard hit me in the back of my mind… and idea… although Latias was alive, her mouth was open… and she felt a bit heavier than before…

…oh no…

She must have been inhaling the sand.

Immediately, Raid caught up on my distress. Quickly we rapidly increased our speed and in under a minute we crossed the dark, barren sandy ground below and rapidly approached the base. Sam watching our movements and monitoring our progress from the base, quickly caught the sudden distressed actions we were showing and quickly ordered his men on standby. "I want every available doctor ready to react once the package is behind doors. Men! Open the gates! I DON'T CARE about a little sand in the garage, I want them open NOW!"

With little sign of argument, the men dispersed and cleared the office.

Within seconds we arrived at the garage doors creating a small sonic boom behind us as we rocketed through the doors which promptly closed behind us.

Raid and I were quick to begin crying out for help when a stretcher appeared below with doctors already dressed and ready to react. Quickly and carefully, Raid and I lowered Latias down and followed the doctors as they rushed down several corridors and into a large operating room. From behind the operating window, Raid and I watched with close attention as the doctors moved equipment around and quickly ran X-Ray scans over Latias. Raid was a bit more anxious than I was – mostly due to his lack of knowledge of what was actually going on. He could have been reading my thoughts and calmed down, but being this close to saving or losing his sister was something that he couldn't let go as easily. It also didn't mean that I wasn't as concerned, I just figured remaining calm would be the best thing we could do, even if that meant tearing up the waiting room by frantically flying everywhere and cooing with anxiety and worry as the doctors moved around Latias.

Suddenly Sam entered the room with a group of soldiers behind him. Appearing as a threat, Raid and I quickly jumped into an attack position in front of the viewing window, drawing out all of our claws and extending them with glowing dragon energy ready to tear any threat into shreds.

Sam being experienced, quickly drew both of his hands up and placed them behind his head as did all of the other men behind him. Confused, Raid and I kept our guard up and watched carefully as the doctors continued working behind us.

"Be calm. We're not here to bring harm, we're trying to help your friend. These men are here to guard this operating room, so please, at ease."

Cautiously Raid and I lowered our claws and watched as the soldiers exited the room and closed the door behind Sam.

Just as the door closed, a nurse came through another door with dark paper in her hand. "Commander Sam, we have big problem -"

But before the nurse could finish, Sam pointed towards us. "-Please, if you're going to tell anyone, tell them."

Illustrating a bit of fear at first, the nurse hesitatingly approached us. "Uh… Latias. She has inhaled a significant amount of sand, and the sand is affecting her ability to breathe appropriately. We will need to act quickly to clean her lungs before an infection is allowed to spread and destroy her lungs."

Raid and I were unhesitant to do anything to help Latias, cooing as we nudged the nurse to get into the operation room through the door she came through.

Sam assisted with the translation. "That means get to work immediately! Hurry, she doesn't have much time!"

The nurse nodded promptly and disappeared behind the door. The lights brightened and the operation light turned on as the doctors got straight to work, injecting Latias with a liquid before inserting a tube through her throat into her chest.

While the anticipation between Raid and I was unbearable, Sam attempted to soothe our nerves by explaining each step the doctors were taking as they worked on removing the sand from Latias's lungs.

As the men worked, time flew by, the clock hanging on the wall was ticking by, as men could be heard running outside aiding in the evacuation of the base. But right now none of that mattered, the health and safety of Latias was all that ran through both Raid's and my mind.

Time ticked, second after second as the doctors worked hard, hour after hour as chunk by chunk of sand were removed from Latias's vitals.

I looked up once more at the clock and shut my yes, almost in tears, praying. 'Please Latias be okay! We're so close! I don't want to lose you like this. We came so close… not to lose you… stay with us… I promised you we'd keep you safe *sniff* now you keep your side of the bargain and stay with us!'

With one final cry I jumped up from my spot and yelled at the glass overlooking the operating room, 'LATIAS!'

Well so much for being knights in shining armor... all Marlon and Raid got was Latias put into critical care... All Marlon and Raid can do nowis watch their friend be cared for in the hand of strangers! Will Latias live to see another day... will the trio safely evacuate the Niger... what has Marlon's family been doing these past two years... how tough are Sam's glasses?!
