"Weiss Schnee!" The voice of one of her old teachers announced to the packed stadium. Weiss knew she was dreaming. Whether or not it became a nightmare, she'd find out. As it stood, this was her last performance under her father's thumb, before she joined RWBY. She nodded, indicating she was ready for the song to begin. In through the nose, out through the mouth.
However, instead of Mirror Mirror's simple piano intro, she heard….nothing. She glared at the conductor of the orchestra who did, in fact, have her hands up, waiting to give the downbeat. Actually, it looked like she was waiting for Weiss to start singing. Weiss wasn't about to sing her most iconic song any differently, so she relinquished control of her dream self to see what would happen.
As dream-Weiss opened her mouth, spirit Weiss noticed several things. She was wearing overalls and a ratty cowboy hat, and the orchestra mostly matched her. The stage was covered in hay. Most strikingly, her violinist was Ruby, and Ruby was smiling her "Weiss' Life Is About to Get Crazy" smile.
Dream-Weiss sang, "If it hadn't been for Cotton-Eye joe, I'd been married long time ago. Where didja come from, where didja go? Where didja come from Cotton-Eye Joe?" Ruby began fiddling, surprisingly well.
Spirit Weiss was gobsmacked for all of two seconds before she forced herself to wake up. Fuck that shit.
Weiss opened her eyes, but the fiddling hadn't stopped. Yes, she was on the bus, and definitely awake now, but Cotton-Eye Joe was still being played. Live. She pulled her privacy curtain aside, and there was Ruby, because of course it was. She'd tied one her bandanas around her neck and was dancing around with her fiddle while Yang beat a drum, both of them howling the lyrics.
Weiss stared, mouth agape. She had so many questions - since when could Ruby play fiddle? Where did she get the fiddle, and how had it made it onto the tour bus without her knowing? Why did they feel it necessary to have a jam session at 3:30 in the afternoon on the bus? Actually, she didn't want to know. With a bit more force than was necessary, she pulled the curtain shut, found her best noise cancelling headphones, and started reading.
