Toby McCallister-
He stands in the shadows, watching her. The way she moves, the way she speaks. The words that pass her lips are complicated and intense, sometimes silly. She plays with her hair when she's nervous, her mouth an awkward smile. She sings like a banshee but he still enjoys listening to it. Her favorite food is peas, of all things, and she dances around like a loon when she's happy. She always has that monkey sidekick, always hungry, wary and watchful to make sure no one hurts his master and friend. He wouldn't dare hurt her.
He stands in the light sometimes, interacting with her. His words fumble their way to a hasty conclusion, his sentence structure taking a blow like a cannonball to a wall when she's around. He tries to be smart, well, smarter for her, but she makes him feel silly and stupid...and he likes it. Sometimes she spreads her arms like wings, pretending to be a Pegasus in a game between her and her best friend. He wishes he could join in, but knows he would only end up playing Count Cloudy, the villain. Always the villain.
He stands in the distance, still ever watching, while the other villains rally around him and tell him that a crush on anyone as kind and real as her is a waste of his time. He had best focus on world domination, they say. But he can't focus on that when she's explaining words, all he can focus on is the way she poses when she's hovering just above the ground. His temper sometimes gets the better of him, and he lashes out at her he knows, but in the end she will always forgive him, whether she knows it or not.
From far away she doesn't notice him, he's another bystander. The breeze blows her dark brown hair away from her perfect round face, her mouth sometimes sticky with ice cream when she's walking through the park with her real friends. He watches her pause when a twig snaps beneath his foot, and he suddenly feels silly and like a stalker.
He stands real close too, but very rarely. It is then that he notices that she smells of vanilla, sometimes strawberries depending on the day. Her sweater is perfect, green, and warm. Her skirt and knee high socks, her sense of fashion is stunted but no more than his. When she's WordGirl he can see a shift in her personality, confidence that she wouldn't otherwise have. When she's holding him, carrying him away from danger sometimes and towards danger other times, he marvels at her strength. Her hands are gloved but he doesn't mind, he can still feel her warmth through the fantastic fabric.
Up close he can see the chocolate brown of her eyes all the better, the way sparkle. The way they light up when she's talking about something she loves, and the sadness they can hold when things don't go her way- they often don't. He feels sorry for her.
She is perfect in every way, and he is sub par at best in everything beyond intelligence. He desperately wants to tell her how he feels, but knows it will kill her. Because she would have to let him down.
Toby McCallister loves Becky Botsford and WordGirl, and knows that all he can do about it is stand and watch.
Remember me? I don't know if I'll write very often at all for this fandom, but I still love the show so... when this idea came I had to write it *shrug*. For those of you who ship Tobecky.
I don't know if this is Toby crushing on both Becky and WordGirl, or if it is him knowing that they're both the same person. It's up to you guys.
