CHAPTER 13
CPOV
The few belongings Clary had in Amatis house, which mostly included clothes she had bought in iris and Amatis old clothes, had been all folded neatly and packed –ready to go. They were finally allowed to return home back in New York. Most shadowhunters were going back to their respective institutes around the world. However, a few shadowhunters had agreed to stay to reinforce the security of the City of Glass. With Jonathan's last strike they feared he would elaborate another plan and enter the city again. Magnus was staying to help Tessa build stronger wards around Alicante. However, whispers were circulating that there was no force that could keep Jonathan out, after all he is a shadowhunter. Though his blood was stained by demon blood, he was marked as any other Nephilim.
The Clave continued to dig deeper into the theories of his nature, trying to rule whether he was half demon and half shadowhunter or a shadowhunters with malicious blood that ran through his veins, forcing him to act no other way than evil.
To add to the Clave's problems, they were investigating how Jonathan had managed to vanish into thin air. There was no portal activity when the scene was evaluated. The dark shadowhunter must have used another form of escape, which was still unknown.
The interrogations had finally ceased for Clary and Alec. Isabelle had also been questioned a few times, asked to recite the details repeatedly.
After the last series of intimate events shared between Clary and Alec, they became more attached. Clary had never practiced such erotic acts before and she was glad Alec was the first man to ever touch her in that way.
In the past two days, after Alec had left in early morning, Clary would lay awake, her lids closed peaceful over her green eyes, her porcelain skin reliving the way Alec's hands had felt on her, the way Alec's lips had marked her skin, the firmness yet careful grip of his rough hands on her thighs.
They had not risked preforming the act in Clary's room. The couple had not been intimate to that extent in the past two days. However, Alec could not keep himself from pressing scorching kisses to her neck while gripping her thighs firmly and Clary could not hold herself from pressing her body closer to the warmth his body provided.
Though Clary knew it sounded extremely sappy, she had to admit to herself that being separated from Alec, once they arrive home, was going to be difficult. It was foolish to worry about such things when there were worst things that she should be concerned about. But Clary did not want to focus on those things.
Clary decided to focus on the normal aspects of her life which technical involved Alec and Simon. Though Simon's eating habits had significantly changed, if she wanted it bad enough, Clary could close her eyes and forget that Simon's diet had gone from pizza to blood, and she could ignore the fact that Alec was a shadowhunter and that her brother and father were psychopaths. Clary allowed herself to forget and pretend for at least one minute every day. Only one minute because the redhead would never go back to her ignorant mundane life. She was a shadowhunter in all the extent of the word. Her mundane life was far behind.
If time rolled back to the moment she had agreed to bringing Simon back to life as a pale, blood drinking vampire, she would take the same decision. If she had the chance to take it all back, to never Pandemonium –she wouldn't. Clary would of enter the night club anyways. If she never had, she would have never met Alec or Magnus, or anyone in the shadow world. Perhaps it would avoid the many deaths that clouded her life, but it would also mean that all the good things that the shadow world brought to her would have never happened.
There was a light knock on the door before it creaked open. "Are you done packing?"
Clary smiled at her best friend. "Yeah, not like I had many things here."
Simon chuckled. "Tell me about it. I technically had to wash my clothes right after taking them off because I only have like three four different shirts."
Clary grinned. "That's why you always stink."
Simon pushed her shoulder playfully. They both laid down on the bed and stared into the ceiling. Simon sighed. "It feels like we have been here forever."
"Technically, we have," Clary agreed.
"I miss the noisy streets of New York," Simon mused.
Clary hummed. "Me too. "
"Are you and Jocelyn moving with Luke?"
Clary nodded, then realized Simon was looking at the ceiling and could not see her. "Yes. I mean, I was already staying there and now that they are together –I think it's going to be good."
"After years of practically being head over heels for each other," Simon chuckled.
Clary snorted. "They practically acted like a married couple. There won't be much of a difference."
"So where's Alec?"
"Packing."
"Figures, otherwise he'd be here, glued to your hip," Simon huffed.
Clary smirked. "Are you jealous? Is this the bff jealousy talk?"
"No," he snorted.
"You totally are," she smirked, elbowing his ribs. "But don't worry, I'll make Simon days. Days were we can watch a star wars marathon all day or do whatever you want."
Simon hummed. "Sounds about fair."
"So, you and Izzy…"
"Me –me and Izzy? Uh, not sure what you mean?"
Clary scoffed. "Who are you talking to? I see you giving her the moony eyes."
"What moony eyes?" He gasped, sounding offended. "I do not do the moony eyes."
"You totally do," Clary laughed.
"Shut up."
"Come on," Clary whined, "tell me."
Simon huffed, muttering something about her being annoying. "Let's just say we have been spending more time together. She sneaks into my room when Magnus is out –that man talks too much."
"Oh my god!" Clary squealed. "Have you –"
"No!" Simon turned to her, horrified and embarrassed. "That's not what I meant. We don't –uh we don't do any of that. We just talk and –okay maybe we have kissed but that's it."
Clary was grinning widely, to Simon's annoyance.
"Ugh shut your face Fray," he whined. "You can't tell Alec –oh he would slaughter me."
"He wouldn't," she assured him, "Izzy has dirt on him She caught me sleeping on his room."
"What?" Simon's eyes had widened comically. "You –you what –"
"We only slept together." Clary face palmed herself, blushing heatedly. "I mean like in the same bed –we didn't. We only slept. He uh, he makes me feel safe."
Simon's face softened, nodding sympathetically. "Still, I need to give him the talk."
"The talk?" Clary frowned in confusion.
"Yes," Simon nodded, "the 'if-you-hurt-her-I'll-kill' you talk."
"I'll make sure he doesn't have his bow or a seraph blade with him," Clary joked.
"Very funny Fray," Simon huffed.
"I can't believe we're finally going home."
"Magnus offered me his apartment," Simon commented. "He gave me the key."
"That's great," Clary said. "I think he really likes you more than he lets through, though he pretends he doesn't."
Simon chuckled. "I don't know where he gets so many names from."
Clary laughed. "You have to admit it's kind of funny, Samuel."
Simon scoffed, poking her rips with his elbow.
"Raphael –I think he doesn't hate me as much anymore," He commented.
"He was a big help," Clary said. "I owe him."
"Don't let him hear you," Simon huffed, "he'll take you up to it. He went to see Magnus before he left."
"He did?"
"Yeah," Simon sighed. "Magnus and he go way back. I think they're closer than I thought."
"Magnus had mentioned that before," Clary said, remembering jus then.
"Yeah but Raphael is different with him," Simon said, "like, more respectful and nicer."
"Well, Magnus has been around for quite a long time," Clary rationalized, "he knows many people and had won their respect.
"Oh, you be surprised by the stories he has told me," Simon huffed, "dude knows everyone. I'm surprised he didn't met Jesus himself of Buddha."
Clary laughed. "Does he tell you bed time stories?"
"No," Simon scoffed. "He just talks too much."
"You're the one to say," she chuckled.
Simon glared at her, offended. "He sits there, sipping a fancy cup of coffee –or tea, and has this wise look om his faces and rambles on about his stories. Though I must say some are a kind of interesting –did you know he is banned from Peru?"
"Why?" Clary asked, intrigued.
"I don't know the exact reason," he said, with a thoughtful look, "I mean he did get in trouble on several different occasions. He caused an earthquake; another time, he got so drunk he flew in a flying carpet over the desert."
"Like Aladdin," Clary laughed.
"Yeah," Simon chuckled.
What's that?" Clary asked, noticing the ring in Simon's index finger.
"Magnus gave it to me," he said, reaching his hand above to touch the sun light. "He left the wards up in his place –said that if must wear it to go in or the wards will squash me like a bug."
"Heartwarming," Clary said, "he doesn't want you to die."
Simon snorted. "More like he doesn't want me to stain his carpet with my blood."
Alicante's farewell was cold; the wind was blowing icily in their faces. Magnus had opened the portal for the shadowhunter to return to their respective homes. New York was the last destination. Alec was standing next to her, his hand interlaced with hers. His warmth was comforting in the cold evening. Simon stood at her other side, Isabelle stood next to him. Simon was explaining the plot of Star Wars. Isabelle oddly looked amused and interested, while Alec was plainly confused. What kind of name is Chewbacca? He had asked with an incredulous tone. Clary had only laughed, fining it amusing how he had extensive knowledge on demons and weapons but could not comprehend the plot of a sci-fi movie.
Clary shivered involuntarily as a gust of wind tickled her neck. Alec pulled her closer to him instinctively. "Do you think your mom will let you stay over at the institute every now and then?"
Clary sighed. "I hope so. Not too frequently because she will scold me about how is not proper to sleep over at my boyfriend's house –"Alec broke into a grin. "—what?"
He shrugged. "I like it when you call me that."
Clary blushed. "Such a romantic."
Alec huffed. "I can be romantic.
"Okay," Clary said.
"I can be, seriously."
"Okay," she repeated.
Alec huffed.
"Anyway, I'll persuade her." She said, sliding her hand in Alec's back pocket.
"That's a dangerous game you're playing Fairchild," Alec smirked. "You do know my mother is standing behind us right."
Clary's eyes widened and jerked her hand out. Alec burst out laughing. Clary turned around only to find no one there. She punched Alec in the shoulder with her closed fist.
"That hurt," Alec protested.
"Good," she scoffed. "I nearly had a heart attack."
Alec grinned and leaned down to place a kiss to her cheek. Clary blushed, noticing a couple of gazes on them. Unfazed, by the stares, Alec placed a deep kiss to her lips, pulling her closer to him. As Clary pulled away she heard Simon shouting out 'gross' before being hushed by Isabelle. The other shadowhunters went back to their own conversations to Clary's content.
"You look so beautiful," Alec blurted.
Clary's cheeks turned a deeper shade or pink. "Stop it."
"And you look adorable when you blush."
"Alec," Clary whinned.
The taller man chuckled, twisting a lock of her red hair in his fingers. "Maybe we should find somewhere more private, this is going to take a while anyway."
"No," Clary scoffed. "It will be our turn soon."
"Clary," Alec argued," we're the last ones."
"People will notice we're gone," she reasoned.
"Let their minds wonder," Alec said in a suggestive tone.
With a smirk, clary elbowed him in the ribs; he grunted. "My mother would put your head on a stick."
Alec made her blush at least twice before it was their time to depart the City of Glass. Robert said his farewells to his family, since he was staying; meanwhile Clary said her good-byes to Amatis, for the third time.
Jace went into the portal first, after kissing Aline. Maryse and Max followed right after him. Alec and Isabelle went next. Clary looked at Magnus, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "I'll see you in a few days, biscuit."
Clary and Simon went through the portal together. Clary landed on her feel gracefully. Simon stumbled but managed not to fall.
"I'm never getting used to that," he groaned.
Clary rolled her eyes playfully, moving aside as Jocelyn and Luke came through the portal.
The day went by rather fast. Though Clary insisted on staying at the institute after they arrived, Jocelyn wouldn't give in. She insisted they had to settle in at Luke's and that Maryse must have hundreds of things to do. After driving Simon to Mangus's loft and staying with him for over an hour, Luke, Jocelyn and Clary returned to Luke's place. Clary had not realized she was tired until her body touched her bed. She took a two-hour nap until her mother woke her up for dinner, which consisted of Chinese takeout. They all took turns in the shower before heading to bed. Clary was last; thus, Jocelyn and Luke were asleep when she got out.
Clary laid down on her stomach, giving her hair time to dry as she sketched with plain lead pencils.
An hour later, her red locks where barely halfway through the drying process; she was on the second sketch, this one was abstract, unlike the detailed one she had finished. A sudden knock on her window startled her, causing her to drop the pencil she had been holding. Hearing a second knock, Cary rolled off her bed and quietly approaching the window. She peered over the curtain, her lips breaking into a smile.
She unlocked the window and hauled it open to allow Alec to come in.
"What are you doing here?" She whisper-shouted.
"Visiting," he said, grinning.
The redhead rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile. Without wiping the grin off his face, he cupped her cheeks and placed a lingering, soft kiss. He pulled away, the grin persistent on his face. The taller man swiped his thumb over her bottom lips, his eyes soft, the gesture melted Clary's insides.
Alec turned around, pulling out his stele from his pocket. He pressed the tip of the stele to the wall and drew a silencing rune. Clary laid down on her bed, watching as Alec removed his shoes and crawled in bed. He threw an arm around her, pulling her closer to him.
"You smell like strawberries," he hummed.
Clary chuckled. "It's the shampoo."
"Is not a redhead superpower?"
Clary rolled her eyes and unsuccessfully suppressed a smile. Alec's fingers started massaging her scalp, immediately turning on the Clary's sleepy button. Alec continued the pleasing gesture while singing the French song he had sang to her before until Clary slipped into the unconsciousness of sleep.
