"Move move move!" Jazz bellowed.
"Do not let the Decepticons get Sentinel! Protect him at all costs!" Ironhide barked as we took off, Sentinel in the middle of all of us.
My heart raced as we flew down the highway, towards wherever the N.E.S.T military was going to hide Sentinel.
"They're right behind us!" Sam screeched as Bee sped up, all of us weaving in and out of traffic.
I turned to look out of the back window - immediately regretting my decision. As Sentinel sped ahead of us, I turned to see three Decepticons twisting and snapping into shape – and they were charging right for us. Horror gripped me as I clung to Bee's seat,
"They're coming!" I shrieked, Bee only speeding up in response.
Jazz, the twins, and Sideswipe took to the battle themselves, charging at the Decepticons in an attempt to keep them from Sentinel. Metal screeching against metal, the Cybertronians collided behind as we drove farther and farther away from them.
"Are we safe?" I looked to Mikaela, who looked as if demons had been raised to drag her to the underworld, and shook my head.
"I doubt it."
Just as those words were let loose from my lips, something caught my attention in my peripheral vision, a large ugly Decepticon charging straight for Bee. In a flash I felt wind on my skin, and my hair whip around my face. A symphony of screams surrounded me, and it wasn't until a few seconds had passed that I took notice to my own yells coming from my throat. My eyes flashed from side to side, trying to take in everything that was occurring at once. In that moment, the first thought that came to my head was: Why are we always getting thrown up in the air?
Just as I screamed Bee's name, I felt his cool limbs wrap themselves around me. The next thing I knew I was back in the car, catching my fleeting breath, with Sam still screeching like a baby in the front seat. I turned to look at Mikaela with wide eyes, her chest was heaving as she tried to hold down vomit.
"Did that really just happen?!" I cried as I held myself.
" – Sorry 'bout that – " Bee's radio pinged.
"It's not you Bee, just try to give me some warning next time." I shuddered as I looked back once again.
The Decepticon was back on our trail; Sentinel was still safe ahead with the Arcee twins safeguarding him. I saw two jets of silver fly past, and I knew they had taken care of the other Decepticons from before. I turned to look at the Decepticon again and saw two blobs of green and red assaulting the enemy droid.
"Go ahead Bee –"
"We'll take care of this mother fucker!" Mudflap interrupting Skids as they tumbled with the 'Con all over the highways.
We jetted off as fast as Bee's engine would allow until we reached the city, corner after corner we turned until we stopped at an alley. We were almost at the edge of the city now, the whole block seemed to be squared off for N.E.S.T. Just ahead was a road that seemed to jut out from the earth from the street itself.
"It's an underground base? In the middle of the city?" Sam gasped as we drove into the alley.
We all got out of the Autobots as they twisted into their normal forms.
"Hey!" Lennox yelled from across the street.
Sam, Mikaela, and I jogged up to him, our hearts unknowingly racing in unison.
"We've got an Energon reading! Three Decepticons two miles out!' A solider boomed.
Lennox turned to Ironhide and Sideswipe, "Get them out of the way – and fast!"
The two were gone in a flash and Lennox turned back to us, his eyes wild with fury.
"What is happening?"
"The Decepticons need Sentinel for the space bridge to work, we need to hide him and the pillars. As long as we have the control pillar, and Sentinel, the Decepticons won't be able to do too much damage." Sam quickly ran through what we knew.
"Alright well this base we've been working on for awhile now, it was apparently top secret to the point that I didn't even know about it until Mearing called me here. It's still not done but will do for a hiding spot for Sentinel – there's two separate parts to the base, one underground and one above." Lennox quickly explained the base pointing once towards the road to the earth, and once to a wide building with few windows if any.
Ironhide and Sideswipe rolled up not a moment later; their processors seemed to be working overtime to cool them down.
"The 'Cons had a good ass-beatin' from me and 'Hide here!" "Sides snickered.
"Sideswipe, Ironhide, since you're so ready to kick Decepticon ass, you two protect Sentinel. They rest of us are going out to look for the rest of those Decepticons."
Ironhide and "Sides stood guard in front of Sentinel, each taking a place by his side.
"What you must realize, my Autobot brethren," Sentinel glowered, "is that we were never going to win the war. Therefore, a deal must have been made – with Megatron."
Time stood still as those words processed in my mind, with each second that ticked away the air seemed to increase its weight upon my chest. With a speed I didn't know possible, and a flash of blinding light, Ironhide and Sideswipe were forced onto the ground and shot once each time at their chassis. I could only describe it as claws of panic tearing across my chest as a shriek of terror was forced from my throat, leaving it raw with emotion.
"What have you done!" I cried out, running at Sentinel – his attention was now turned to me.
"The only thing I didn't count on was you, human." He sneered, but the anger didn't reach his optics.
"Sentinel, what are you doing! This isn't you – you aren't made a Prime in your world lightly –"
"You know nothing of my race, pathetic human girl. Do not speak of us as if you are familiar. Even if you are cozy to a Prime, that does not give you rights to speak on the behalf of my race." He spat before turning his white-hot blade to the base behind him. He tore through the building material as if it were a knife to warm butter, the metals and brick melting away before my eyes. I glanced over to see Ratchet tending to Ironhide and Sideswipe, and my heart was temporarily sedated.
"Bee don't –"
It was too late, Bee fired at Sentinel causing him to turn around and retaliate. Sentinel let loose what seemed like fires from hell as his shots rained down upon us. Lennox tackled Mikaela, Sam, and I out of the way as the rest of the Autobots tried to ducks for cover. While we were recovering from the blast, Sentinel fled further into the building. Explosions resounded through the air as Lennox forced us up and into the neighboring building.
"Stay here, do not move." Lennox ordered as he ran out to get more of the wounded.
The three of us looked to one another and nodded in unison, our legs running for the base next door. However, once we reached the inside of the base, we knew we were too late. Dead and injured soldiers scattered across a now empty and burning N.E.S.T. base building, it was quiet enough for us to know that Sentinel was no longer here.
"How could he have escaped?" Mikaela cried as she took in her surroundings.
I couldn't speak; this would surely cause Optimus to go over the deep end. His mind was probably fragile already from loosing Elita, and the entire trauma in the world wouldn't match to what this would do to him. The devil himself appeared in his blue and fiery red glory, his noisy Peterbilt truck flew through a large gaping hold in the side of the – what would've been – hangar. When Optimus geared into his 32-foot form, I could sense the unrest within him, swirling about like the ocean waves in the middle of a hurricane.
"Take a look Optimus Prime! " I heard Mearing screeched from somewhere in the vast room, "Take a good blasted look! This is all on you!" She bellowed before I heard her heels slapping hard against the floor as she pounded away.
Optimus's optics slid to the floor beneath him, almost as if he were ashamed. I carefully walked up to him and placed a gentle hand on his metallic shin.
"Optimus, this is not your fault. Do not let her words entertain you for a moment, you got that?" I told him, my stare holding firm.
Lennox dragged me away before I had a chance to say anything further, however I felt Optimus's stare upon my back the entire time. Lennox, Sam, Mikaela, Mearing, a few other soldiers, and I were all gathered in a neighboring room that was left untouched by Sentinel's wrath.
"They took the pillars." A solider told Mearing and Lennox.
"Shit!" Lennox stomped a cabinet and walked around the room trying to contain himself.
"Notify the 101st Airborne, we need to track them down and get those pillars back." Lennox growled before taking off.
Sam, Mikaela, and I ran after him, not knowing what else to do. Sam suddenly stopped in his tracks, causing Mikaela and I to stop as well.
"Sam – "
"Carly!" He cried out before turning and running in the other direction.
"We can't let him go alone." I looked to Mikaela with worry.
Mikaela nodded and dashed off to follow Sam, me close behind.
