AN: Okay, so first of all, I'm sorry about the late update. D': Second of all, I just want to let you guys know that all of this one shot will take place on the island and will be part of the aftermath of the episode "Unauthorized Mission". I say this simply because I don't want anyone to be confused. Alright, well, I don't have much else to say besides that, so I hope y'all like this one shot, and thanks for reading! :D

Bree's PoV:

I sat next to my father figure on the hospital bed, barely listening to the medic as she talked about his condition. Chase seemed to be the only one listening, as I noticed Adam staring at the ground and Leo staring at Mr. Davenport.

I didn't bother listening, though. I was more concerned with the fact that Mr. Davenport, the man that I considered to be my father even though he technically wasn't, was lying unconscious in a hospital bed, breathing only with help from an oxygen machine and cannula. I knew that our lives were somewhat dangerous, but I always thought that if anyone would be lying in a hospital bed, barely breathing, it would be me or my brothers.

Never our father.

Then the idea of my brothers being in Mr. Davenport's shoes entered my mind, and it sickened me. Even though I might not have always acted like it (I AM a teenage girl, after all), my family meant a great deal to me, and I would never want any of them even slightly hurt in any way. I'd rather be dead than let that happen. So the fact that my dad was hurt now was like a punch to the face, and the idea of my brothers being in the same situation wasn't helping at all.

I only broke out of my reverie when I felt a calloused but comforting hand on my shoulder, and I didn't even have to look back to know that the hand belonged to Chase. I put my hand on top of Chase's and spared a sad glance at him before returning my gaze to Mr. Davenport. Chase gently squeezed my shoulder, letting me know that he was there if I needed him.

And I did.

I needed my brothers because I needed to know that I was safe, and they were safe, and my dad was safe. I needed my brothers because together they made up a metaphorical rock that kept me safe, happy and grounded.

Suddenly I wished that I had listened to the medic, just so I could know what to expect. I mentally cursed my own stupidity.

When the medic finally left the room, we were all still for a second before Adam stood up and walked over to the stark white wall in front of us and punched said wall angrily.

I stood up and walked over to him, laying a hand on his arm gently. "Adam," I whispered.

And that was all it took.

That was all that it took for my older brother to begin sobbing as he hugged me, his arms wrapping around my shoulders and his face in my hair. I wound my arms around his waist, resting my head on his chest.

"It'll be alright," I whispered soothingly, "It'll be alright."

Adam nodded.

But I knew that neither of us believed what I was saying.

*A Few Hours Later*

(Still) Bree's PoV:

A few hours later, Adam let his big brother instincts kick in and sent me and Chase back to the dorms to sleep. Normally we wouldn't have left, but Leo assured us that he would stay with Adam and tell us if something was wrong. Besides, we often forgot this, but I was Chase's big sister, and I could tell how exhausted he was.

I had tried and failed to fall asleep multiple times before I finally settled on staying up until I could fall asleep. I climbed out of my capsule and found a strange sight-Chase's empty capsule. Chase never had trouble falling asleep, no matter what. Of course, given the situation...

I decided to go search for my younger brother, wondering where he could be. After searching for a while, I found an extremely frazzled Chase in the training room. I wondered at first why he would be here, but then it hit me: Chase and Sebastian tested the simulation in the training room. That was where Mr. Davenport had gotten hurt.

Chase was typing away frantically at the console that controlled the simulation, a desperate look in his eyes.

"Chase?" I said quietly, slowly walking over to my brother.

Chase glanced up at me before returning to his work. "Not now, Bree, I'm kinda busy here," he mumbled.

"Chase," I said, this time a little more firmly.

"Not now, Bree."

"Chase, what are you-"

"NOT NOW, BREE!"

I stopped short, surprised by Chase's sudden outburst.

Chase sighed and raked a hand through his messy hair before looking at me apologetically. "Bree, I'm sorry. It's just..." he ran a hand over his face. "I just need to know what went wrong."

"Why?" I asked softly, even though I was pretty sure that I already knew the answer.

He hesitated. "It's my fault, Bree. It's my fault."

"Chase, it's not-"

"YES IT IS!" Chase shouted, not angry but devastated, tears running down his cheeks. "IT IS MY FAULT! BREE, IT WAS MY SYSTEM THAT HURT HIM!"

Chase slowly slipped to the ground, his face in his hands and his elbows on his knees. "It was my fault, Bree," he told me softly, "It was my fault. And now, now our dad might die because I screwed up. And if that's the case, then he'll never get to walk you down the aisle, or see any of us get married. He'll never grow old with Tasha and see his grandkids. He won't be there to give your future husband his blessing. He'll never meet the woman that Adam, Leo or I one day marry, and he'll never invent anything weird or stupid or unnecessary ever again. And it'll be all. My. Fault."

Tears were running down my cheeks as I walked over to my brother and sat next to him, wrapping him in my arms. For the first time in what felt like forever, Chase let his guard down and laid his head on my shoulder, letting me hold him.

"Chase, you're gonna be okay, I'm gonna be okay, Leo and Adam and Tasha are gonna be okay, and Mr. Davenport is gonna be okay. Don't worry about it, honey; there's no way that you could've known."

"But I'm the smartest man in the world," Chase replied, his voice thick with tears, "I should've been able to see-"

"There is no way that you could've known," I repeated firmly, then more softly, "Everyone makes mistakes, Chase. And that's okay, so long as you learn from them. I'm your big sister, and I'm not going to let anything happen to you or Mr. Davenport. Okay?"

Chase nodded weakly, not lifting his head from my shoulder. "Okay."

Chase and I sat there like that for what could've been minutes or hours; we didn't know and quite frankly, we didn't care. But the amount of time that passed really didn't matter; what mattered was Leo bursting into the room happily sometime later.

"Guys! Davenport's awake, and the medic said that he should be okay soon!"

The three of us shared a quick, joyful hug before running to the hospital wing. Leo ran right in, but Chase and I stopped for a second outside of the door.

I looked at my brother slyly. "Told ya so."

AN: Okay, so obviously that's a different location/ending to Davenport being in the hospital, but I hope you guys liked it anyway! If you have any requests or suggestions, feel free to PM me or leave your idea(s)/suggestion(s) in a review. Thanks! And thanks for reading! I hope y'all liked it! :D Later! :P
