The ground shifted beneath my feet. I didn't understand what had me so scared about those two women but I seriously didn't want to go with them.I ducked under branches and skidded to a stop beside a bush to catch my breath. I had been running for ages and it was almost nightfall, I didn't want to be caught in a forest with a necromancer... I didn't even have my ring, I stopped wearing it because of something... Oh, Skulduggery wasn't too fond of it. I had no idea where I was going or how I would get there.I had run away from the motorway, probably one of the worst ideas.
God, where's the evil head-dwelling murderer when you need her?
I knew it had been stupid to ever rely on Darquesse, but considering we shared a body you would think she had interest in keeping it alive. The wind picked up around me and I started to panic, obviously one of them was a necromancer but I had no idea about the other... Daughter. Darquesse called her a fallen angel, whatever that meant? Maybe she was like me? Had gifted blood in her which made her stand out... Or that she literally was an angel and saw that I was going to kill the world and is now going to kill me.
Either way, I don't plan on sticking around to find out.
My head snaps up and I take off into a sprint, to the thicker parts of the forest.
"So you have no idea where they could have gone?"
"No Ghastly, I don't know where kidnappers with extraordinary powers could have taken my partner."
He sat back and observed me...I didn't like it, I'm the one that does observing. And this was distracting me, from finding Valkyrie.
"We have things to do Ghastly.." I wanted to remind him and subtly.
"I'm just trying to figure out how they could have taken Val away from you. You must have been distracted." Ghastly scratched his chin and raised an eyebrow at me.
" We're getting her back, that's all that matters."
Ghastly shifted in his chair and stood, taking off his cloak he pulled a leather jacket out from his desk.
I tilted my head at him.
"Oh come on, it's like Mary Poppins' bag down there."He grinned at me and I shook my head.
It's time to find Valkyrie and finish our conversation.
I'm going to die. Is all I can think as I fall to my knees infront of an ash tree. I can't hear anything but the trees and wind, and maybe a couple of pissed off mages after me. I wonder who they're working for and why? My secret is pretty big and you'd have to be close to me to know it. Even then, only Skulduggery knows. They must have a sensitive and a good one at that, probably good pay, or good guards. Either way it has to be an important person or a really big scary company.
I can't help but think where the hell Skulduggery is. Probably haven't made it the easiest thing for either side to get to me... Being in a forest with potential psychopaths really wasn't a smart move. And looking back, I could have just gone with the old lady. Or them, seen where they were hiding and made a run for it then, but the likeliness that I could have got away when we were about to go into the place would have been impossible.
Looks like I'm stuck with idiot choice number 1 for now.
Oh I seriously am an idiot.
Phone, Valkyrie, use your phone.
You would think I had a mentor or something that would teach me to be so stupid.
I yank the phone out of my pocket and dial Skulduggery's number when I notice I have no service.
"You have to be kidding me, I get some luck and there it goes! You're really starting to be a pain in my arse!" I don't particularly say this at anyone, but it's good to say it out loud.
My situation isn't as good however. Now I have a phone, I'll be running around holding in the air as if it was simba from the freakin' lion king!
The bushes rumble behind me to encourage me running now. Remembering I have kidnappers that probably aren't going to be very nice when we next see each other, I take off into another sprint.
The tree's swoosh past me and I can already feel my legs tiring, from running all day. I'm about to give up when my phone buzzes into life.
Ignoring all the voicemails I go straight to calling Skulduggery.
"Where are you?" Not even a Hello.
"In a forest off a highway somewhere, they're chasing-"
"I'll be right there."
The phone goes silent. Wow. What a prick.
I can't help but laugh, I'm in danger once again and yet I'm fussing over how Skulduggery is talking to me?
Typical.
"She's in a forest off a motorway."
"Skulduggery, that could be anywhere."
"No, it's not. I know where she is."
Valkyrie's phone had a tracker in it, seeing how much trouble one girl can get in.
"Take some cleavers with you at least..."
Skulduggery was already out the door.
Typical.
Hey guys, sorry for the no updates then the really short ones... Stuff's gone on.
Anyway, hope you liked them!
R&R as always,
