The throneroom was dark, the only source of light came from the city's streetlights far beneath the grand window at the very opposite of the room. The only items obscuring the view were the big, deep-red curtains, which were opened at the moment, the throne of the Prince, the other identical throne being removed after the Queen's death and was currently waiting in storage for a new Queen to claim it, and ofcourse the Prince himself.

A pin could be dropped and you'd hear it, the silence was almost deafening and the Captain of the Royal Guard could hear is own breathing, heartbeat and many other body sounds you'd never hear any other way. (A/N: People I am talking about the pumping of the blood through one's veins, not the gas escaping from one's butt in the form of a fart! _)

The Prince had his back turned to him, his deep violet eyes calmly observing the crowd far beneath him and a sincere smile made it up to his lips.

"It's envious," He started, his deep voice rumbling through the room like an avalance. "Seeing them so carefree.. not having to worry about a thing in the world.. it is truly envious. Sometimes I wonder if I could give this all up and just be down there like everyone else.."

"Your Highness?"

The Prince closed his eyes momentarrily, the smile on his lips not faltering in the least even with his current annoyance. "Gou-en-ji-kun," He said, emphasizing every syllable of the name. "How long have we known each other by now? I though that, by now, you would finally quit being so stiff, even after asking oh so many times."

The Knight gave a half smile, his formality faltering untill it was dropped completely. Right now they faced each other as old friends, instead of a Silver Knight facing his Prince and future King.

"Saryuu-kun. Still as demanding as ever I see." Gouenji said, using the last bit of his laid-back attitude before he stiffened again, remembering the reason why he had been summoned to the Throneroom. "Actually.. your Highness.."

"I know.." Saryuu said, a hint of sadness making it to his eyes. Even his oldest friend wouldn't stop walking on tiptoes around him and treat him like royalty.. instead of a friend. "You came with bad news didn't you? So, in all honesty, how much damage has been done? Where is she.." The two of them fully knowing who she was. The Knight had already opened his mouth as he was about to tell him but Saryuu stopped him simply by raising his hand to silence him.

"On second thought.. I don't need nor want to hear it." Saryuu's smile fell from his face and his eyes became hard as steel and had a serious look in them. "You comming here on your own sais enough... she's with them isn't she." He spat out the word them as if only refering to the Vampires was enough to make it turn bitter in his mouth. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, feeling a future headache comming up. "Go.."

"But your Highness!" Gouenji started.

"Leave!" The Prince snapped at him, he took a deep breath to calm himself down and regain his composure before giving the Captain his final orders. "Bring me Kirino and Kariya, I want to know exactly what happened.."

"Yes, my Lord." The Captain said, he made his salute and turned on his heel to leave the Throneroom. The big, oak doors opening again letting light flood the room once more before it was filled with darkness again. Saryuu still stood by the window, his face looking down onto the street, a look of jealousy mixed with anger in his eyes.

"How envious.." He muttered as he kept looking at his carefree subjects. They roamed the streets in joy, not knowing anything of what had just occured. They were normal... ordinary... "Tch.." Saryuu balled his fist and left the room.

- In the Vampire Kingdom -

Aoi had started to come over her shock that left her paralized and trembling in a cornor of her room. Her stiff limbs started to get some feeling back into them and she only noticed then how cold it was, her room was mostly stone and dark woord adorned with marine and silver furniture, nothing emited any kind of warmth to her opinion. She rubbed her arms, trying to get at least some warmth back into them.

She wondered about what she should do, everything in her screamed for escape, yet she only listened to the small voice all the way in the back of her conscious. Saying that escaping now would be a futile try that would surely fail now matter what. So she would have to sit around and wait for them to come and get her? She shook her head furiously. No, she definetely wouldn't just sit here and wait while fear would eat away on her. But there was no way she could make a run for it.

Almost on auto-pilot she curled herself up into a little ball and felt hopelessness crash over her like a wave on the rocks. She felt pathetic, she felt weak and most of all defeated. It burned onto her like hot oil and she felt her cheeks burn with shame, it annoyed her to no end.

"So pathetic.." She thought and she clenched her teeth and fist. "But what can I do.." Hot tears escaped from her closed eyes and she let out a soft growl in frustration. "Is there really nothing I can do?"

"There's always a way.."

Aoi's eyes widened. A long forgotten memory forcing itself into her mind. One that came from very long ago, only a few weeks after the big war between Vampires and Werewolves, she had been on the run with her sister and a few friends of hers... all of them were dead now ofcourse... But together they had managed to stay alive and well and hidden from the hungry eyes of predators.

One night, when half of their group was caught and killed she had been crying over their remains, cold, mangled boddies drained of all of their blood. Her older sister had wrapped big pieces of fabric around their necks to hide the torn flesh from her younger sister's eyes. That night when the few remaining friends had been quietly mourning through the night, Aoi had broken down crying. Her sister had quickly scooted over and had wrapped her arms around Aoi, quickly hushing and comforting the hurting girl.

"There's no way we can escape this!" Aoi had cried almost histerically. "We cannot run forever, one day they'll catch us and kill us! Just like Suginawa-san and the others!"

"Maybe.." Her sister had said. A sad smile on her beautifull face. "But that day is not today! And as long as we are alive we will run, we will not only survive.. we will live! We will live for the for the sake of humanity!"

"But.. but what if.. what if we die? I'm afraid.. I don't want to die.." Aoi said, her voice much softer now, barely louder then a whisper.

"Then live.." A warm hand had patted Aoi's head, gently strocking her saphire blue locks.

"And if I am caught? What if I am locked away somewhere.. What if I can't escape.."

"There's no such thing as a perfect prison, everything has a way out.. sometimes it just takes a little more effort to find it!" She had told Aoi in a soft and encouraging voice.

That was the last night Aoi had slept in her sister's arms.

Aoi was pulled out of her memory by the sound of footsteps echoing through the hall. Her body tensed up as she strained her ears to listen, and indeed, they really did come closer. Her heart stopped when they stopped in front of her door and it painfully restarted when a few soft knocks echoed loudly through the room.

"Human-chan, are you awake?" A soft feminine voice came from the other side of the door.

Aoi was frozen to the spot, she could not even manage to utter a single word. Another set of knocking woke her up and she hurridly got into action, nearly tripping over her own feet, she cursed under her breath.

"Human-chan?" The feminine voice asked again, sounding a bit more urgent. The clattering sound of metal made Aoi's legs hurt in anticipation. If the Vampire on the other side of the door was doing what Aoi thought she was doing..

"Then this might be my best shot.." Aoi thought.

A key was slid into the lock of her door and the Human girl quickly hid behind the hinges of the door, completely hidden from sight if the door was swung open. Her breathing stopped for a moment when the door opened, her palms turned sweaty and she felt both hot and cold all over as if she had a fever. She felt strangely calm somehow and thanked the Gods for this. She was sharp and on edge and ready to run for it.

"Human-chan?" The feminine voice asked uncertainly.

Aoi took her chance. She snuck around the door and slammed the door shut, the last thing she saw of the female Vampire was a pair of lilac eyes widen in shock and horror. She came to open the door again but Aoi had seen the keys still dangling from the lock and quickly tried to turn them, adrenaline was pumping through her entire body and it seemed to take forever till she had locked the door, though in reality it was only a matter of moments.

She was panting as she stumbled backwards, the keys fell from the door onto the ground as the female Vampire banged her fists against the door. Desperate cries came from the other side and Aoi figured it wouldn't take long before someone would hear the screams and come to see what was causing such turmoil. So she took off.

Hallway after hallway passed by her as she ran, she was gratefull for the amount of sleep she had gotten feeling no exhaustion at all. A painfull tense feeling sneaked inside her head, it was strange how these halls were so empty.. She had expected the Palace to be full of.. well people.. and not to be so creepily deserted and quiet. Aoi tried to stay close to the windows though, feeling that simply straying through the castle would only get her lost.

And after a few more turns she came upon a dead end, the only thing in front of her was a pair of big, dark-wooden doors. She hesitantly looked over her shoulder, an eerie darkness had gathered and she felt not safe going back. The only choice she had now.. was forward. And thus she pressed her hands against the doors and pushed and pushed as hard as she could, her fear of being caught giving her that little bit of additional strength she needed to open the doors.

She slipped inside, and only realised how wrong her decision to enter this room had been when the doors closed shut behind her. She was envelopped in darkness and she felt even more on edge in here then she had been in the room she had woken up in. Her breathing became harscher and her heart started to pound violently inside her chest.

Something in here... just didn't feel right.

"What are you doing here?" A male voice came from behind her.

Aoi recognized that voice, and the image of two bright golden-orange eyes came to thought. She shrieked and made a run for the door again, banging against it and desperately tried to open it again. But to her horror it wouldn't budge.

A scream was ripped from her throat when two cold, clawed hands wrapped themselves around their body and dragged her back into the darkness of the room.

Okay... so I hope you guys liked reading this as much as I loved writing this! xD

Seriously guys my legs hurt and feel exhausted just by writing this running scene

I hope you care enough to leave me-san a little review.

Also, for those who are wondering about Aoi's sister, she's dead, obviously. All the human friends she traveled with are just fictional characters that don't exist in the Inazuma Universe xD
