A/N: I've decided to do a part three to the courtroom drabble(s)
Order in the court!
I've also decided to do Jack's full name with is 'Overland Frost'
Anywho, so in this chapter, the Guardians finally find out what happened in Antarctica. The nightmare king draws pictures, and the Easter Bunny will set fire to something in the room.
The guardians had far to much time on their hands lately. It was obvious by the way North's office had been customized to look exactly like a make-shift courtroom with a witness stand and everything!
"I'd like to welcome you all to the Kangaroo court!" North announced happily as he gestured to everyone present, ignoring the dirty glares he was getting from the defense attorney and his 'client'. "I'm glad you could all join us."
"If by 'join', you mean forced in here against their will, then yes it is very nice that we could all join." Pitch muttered angrily as Jack leaned back in his chair beside him.
"It wouldn't have been forced since I wanted to come anyway, but Phil just had to shove me in a bag and drag me here." Jack commented as he suddenly leaned forward, his chair making a loud scrapping sound as he did so. "So why are we here anyway?"
At that moment, a whole appeared in the ground and Bunnymund popped out with a trail of black sand falling out of his fur while he rushed over to a table opposite from the Dark and Cold sprites and slid into one of the chairs.
"Sorry I'm late, got a little tied up on the way over here, mate." Bunnymund shot a glare at the two other's present who began to whistle innocently in unison. "So what did I miss?"
"Nothing yet Bunnymund, I was just about to explain what this is all about." North said as Sandman's plane suddenly flew in through an opened window. "Sandy! Welcome to the Kangaroo court!"
Jack couldn't fly out of his seat faster as it clattered loudly to the floor and his eyes were blown wide in annoyance. This caught the Dark Sprites attention.
"If you don't mind me asking, Jack. What exactly is a 'Kangaroo court'." Pitch asked curiously.
"Jamie and his class did this stupid project last week where you basically do a mock trial and pretend to be trying to prove if someone is innocent or guilty." Jack groaned as he rubbed his snow white locks. "Which is why I'm guessing we're here."
"So which one of these screw-ups is on trial?" Bunnymund asked, thumbing over to the two sprites at the other table, all while Sandy took a seat in the witness stand.
"Well, I was about to announce this, but we have to wait for Tooth." North said sternly as he went to a white board and began to write on it.
Witnesses: Baby Teeth/ Elves/Yetis (and maybe an Egg or two)/Sandy/Tooth.
Judge: North.
Prosecution: Bunnymund.
Defense attorney: TBA
Client: TBA
At that moment, Tooth flew in, busily chirping away at the baby teeth who were to wrapped in their work to possibly be witnesses. Well, except for Baby Tooth, who flew in through the same window Sandy had come through and perched herself on Jack's shoulder, wrapping her cold body in his jacket hood.
"Hey Baby Tooth." Jack sighed as he sat back in his chair and nudged a finger under her chin to nuzzle her. "So the gang is all here North, now who is this trial for anyway? And why are we even having it."
A quick toss of a calendar reminded Jack that it was October, the month where none of the Guardians were busy due to the spirits of Halloween taking over their jobs for a short while. The overall fun and spookiness of Halloween was all that the kids dreamed about, and since it wasn't Christmas or Easter, Bunnymund and North had nothing to do, and most of the world wasn't ready for a winter frost yet, that and with parents fussing about their kids brushing after eating all that candy, it was no wonder why so many of them weren't losing many teeth this month.
"Guess that makes sense." Jack muttered as he inspected the pumpkin sticker that marked the calendar. "So whose trial is it anyway?"
"Recap! Story time!" North announced as he pulled out a large, dusty book and opened it up and began to read. "Once upon a time, a long time ago (About three months ago actually) the Man in the Moon announced that a new guardian was to be chosen. This guardian ended up being Jack Overland Frost, who at first, turned down the offer of being the new guardian and yet for some reason still assisted us when Pitch attacked the Tooth Palace, only to betray us, like a... Oh I can't say that word! jerk, by leaving the Warren to go find his memories to hopefully discover why MiM had chosen him, because hes a bloody moron- OK, who wrote this!?- which lead us to where we are now... ect."
"Wait a minute! Is that my journal!?" Jack demanded as he pointed to the book's cover which had his name on it.
"I don't know, is it- Jack 'Ashley' Overland Frost?" Bunny snickered at the middle name, only to have a snowball tossed at him by an angry Jack.
"Mom was out of it when she named me... And she wanted a girl! Okay!?" Jack yelped as he tossed himself back into the chair.
"Oi, not my fault your parents didn't love you." Bunny said as he rubbed the snow out of his eyes.
"MY FATHER WAS A BRILLIANT MAN!" Jack suddenly yelled, though he was just being dramatic at this point.
"Anywho! We stray from topic." North cut in as he continued to read. "Jack Frost was later excepted back by his fellow guardians though some still believe it was wrong for him to walk away from that whole betrayal back there and-"
"Hes basically saying that this is your Trial Jack. And you better get a good lawyer for it!" Bunnymund snapped only to have Sandy walk passed him and over to the white board.
Defense attorney: Pitch Black.
Client: Jack Frost.
"Why is he my Attorney!?" Jack yelped as he looked over at the grey skinned male who was smirking in amusement. "Hes probably more into getting me punished for this than Bunnymund is!"
"Hardly." The Dark Sprite muttered as he leaned back in his chair in a similar fashion as Jack had earlier.
"We discussed this last month actually." Tooth piped up suddenly. "Since he was actually in Antarctica with you at the time it would only make sense that he defends you. Plus it was the only space left at the time."
"You all planned this!?"
"Pretty much. Now I call our first witness to the stand! Sandman!" Bunnymund announced as Jack slid into his chair.
Oh this would be fun.
Sandy stood up from his chair and walked over to the witness chair and sat down at it. He looked between the King Of Nightmares and the Frost Sprite, smiled, and then waved at them. The glares of the two men softened as North's voice called back their attention.
"Sanderson." North held out the book of Guardians and had Sandy put his hand on it for a moment and then pulled it back, finding no point in actually having Sandy swear since this was a mock-trial. "I will never understand the point of that part, we all end up lying at some point or another."
A canned laugh was heard coming from the yetis who were now standing in the back. After this, the 'Judge' went to his stand and got up.
"OK Sanderson, can you tell the court how you met Mr. Frost?" North began, turning calmly towards Sandy.
A cloud appeared above his head as a cradle took its shape and a smaller Sandy was seen floating above it. casting dream sand onto it.
"So you've known him since he was a child." North translated. "And as a Guardian?"
The sand changed shape to the day in North's shop when they all met Jack Frost in person, simple enough.
"Sanderson, where were you the night in question? The night of Easter Sunday?" North asked now, casting a shifty gaze between the witness stand and the two men on the Defense side.
Sandy glared and pointed to Pitch, a head stone with a flower on it took its shape above the Dream Kings golden head. He then turned to Santa and a large question mark appeared above his head with an exclamation point.
"Oh. I forgot about that." North muttered as Pitch stood up.
"Nor-" He was cut off quickly by North.
"In court I am the Jude, that's 'Your Honor'." North corrected him but was ignored.
"I see no point in this testimony- Is that the word?" He got a nod from Jack. "This man wasn't even alive to witness anything."
"In that case hes obviously guilty." Bunny said as he hopped up and pointed a finger at Jack. "No further witness needed."
"Well in that case-" North began but was cut off quickly.
"Wait! What kind of Kangaroo court is this?" Pitch demanded, still standing.
"That one where you sit down and shut up because what ever you have to say doesn't matter because you are evil and no one likes you." Bunny shot over to him and North's gavel cut him off from saying anything else.
Sandy's head suddenly hit the table and a cloud of fake tears fluttered from above his head. He then looked up and proceeded to make shapes of an arrow and a snowflake above his head over and over again.
"You see your honor. This man was tragically and violently wrong by that man and- you can stop now Sandy- I think we should charge both men on the defense team with an account of murder."
"Over-ruled. Sandy, you may return to your seat. The next Witness is Tooth Fairy." With this being said, the teal woman fluttered over to the stand and sat gracefully on it. "And since you're an honest person, we won't have you swear."
"I thought we weren't swearing to begin with." Jack piped up, " But if we were could we keep it PG for the kids here?"
"Shut up Jail Bate." Bunny snapped in annoyance but this caused Jack to laugh.
"Jail Bate is an under aged person who goes after older people. Jailbird is someone whose guilty." Jack corrected him.
"Oh I know, I meant jail bate. Pretty sure He is a lot older than you." With this Bunny motioned over to the Defense attorney.
"Wha-" Jack began but both were shushed by the gavel again.
"OK, so lets begin, Tooth-"
"So like Sandy, I met Jack when he first started loosing baby teeth around age 9, and met him again as the Winter Sprite when he was 318 but I did hear about him before that and during the night of Easter Sunday, I was at the warren trying to defend the eggs from Nightmares, so I really can't be a witness and honestly I don't thinks he is guilty of anything because he is a very nice guy, even though he parallel parks the sleigh like an ass and takes up two parking spaces. But still I don't think hes guilty."
Bunny stood up suddenly. "Lies! I call shenanigans on everything expect that part about his driving!"
" Shenanigans can only be done in a con." North corrected. "Over-ruled... Unfortunately. Next set of questions. No were you involved with Mr. Frost in a romantic setting?"
"Um... I guess so- Yes." Tooth said in a soft voice.
"Wait a minute! We're- just playing?" Jack asked curiously. "Right?"
"Of course silly, this is just pretend." Tooth responded with a nod.
"I was just making sure you were all paying attention. There will be a quiz afterwards." North explained as he began to mindlessly leaf through Jack's journal again. "But like Tooth said, she wasn't there so ma'am you may return to your seat."
Jack rolled his eyes and got up from his chair, all while setting baby tooth down on the chair. "What ever. I'm out of here." With that he turned on his heels and dramatically went out the front door.
Everyone waited and watched the door when suddenly Jack came back through the door with his hands held up and two yetis holding squirt-guns to his back
"And I'm back folks." Jack muttered as he was directed back to his seat. Baby Tooth flew up and took her place back on his shoulder, but then she also flew to the witness stand and sat on a smaller chair that had been set up.
"Now, Baby Tooth. Since you only make high pitched notices, we are going to ask you yes or no questions." North began as he took out Jack's journal again. "According to this book, you were present in Antarctica the night in question. Is that correct."
Baby Tooth thought it over for a bit and nodded her tiny head up and down.
"Now, you and Mr. Frost were there, according to the evidence book, because while returning Sophie to her room, you saw a night mare, went after it, it lead you to a bed with a whole under it -monster under bed, how could you not figure that out- and while under the bed, stumbled upon both the teeth and your missing sisters. Is that correct?"
She nodded her head again and then pointed to the Nightmare king and then grabbed her neck with her tiny hands, pointed to Jack and used her fingers to make a walking away motion then pointed to herself.
"So you are saying, you were captured by Pitch, and Jack left with the baby teeth?" Another nod answered this question.
"And then what happened?"
With this being asked, Baby Tooth held her shoulders and began to shiver, then pointed to Jack again and made her hands do the 'talking' sign as she gestured to the nightmare king. After this, she pushed a roll of tape off of the witness stand and watched it drop, and then dropped a pencil down after it. The next thing she did was walk over to a nearby telephone and pointed to it and then Jack, pretended to shiver again and hold a baby and then took her finger and dragged it across her throat and finished it off with a shrug. Everyone blinked, but then Jack translated.
"She was taken to Antarctica, Pitch and I talked for a while, then I'm guessing that roll of tape was me and the pencil was my staff, both were knocked over the cliff, then- using the TARDIS? Wait, she means we opened the capsule and I saw how I died saving my baby sister and BT just watched me awkwardly." Jack translated but then got up quickly. "And I really have to use the bathroom right now."
"Fine, we'll all take a short break then." North said as he hit the table again with his gavel.
"And they're back!" North announced as Jack re-entered the room for the second time that day, two yetis following close behind him.
"We would have been back sooner, but you know- Its kind of awkward going to the bathroom with a freaking yeti in the same room!" Jack complained as he sat down in his assigned seat.
"Well we wanted to make sure you wouldn't run away again." North said with a smile as he hit the gavel against the table yet again. "But we stray from topic."
"We've been straying from topic! I think we've been at this for hours now and so far all we've done is had two witnesses, one lunch break, and we spent the passed two hours playing hang-man on the white board!" Jack complained, suddenly shooting out of his seat.
"Even though Noel only has one L." Tooth muttered, who was still unhappy about one game of hangman. "But Jack is right, we have to get back on topic."
"Alright, alright, alright." North muttered but then got up and waved his hands around before pointing at Pitch. "Defense attorney, are those slides ready?"
"Slides?" The frost-sprite asked as he sat up a little in his chair.
"Since we can't use memory teeth to tell what happened, we have to use slides as evidence." North explained as he twirled around on his chair.
Jack's blue eyes shifted over to the nightmare king and he could've face palmed when he saw the older man take out a sharpie and a piece of paper.
"You have got to be kidding me..." Jack muttered but felt Bunny poke his arm.
"Originally we were going to use crayons. But he said no." The rabbit explained to him as he leaned back over to his side.
Jack looked back over at the drawings and was kinda amazed at how well they were drawn and even more amazed at how many there were. He turned to his attorney and was about to make a comment about the drawings when the older man was called up to the front of the room. He got up and promptly went there.
"So just stand on the X there." North instructed, pointing to a taped X on the floor.
"If theres a water bucket set up above th-" The nightmare king was cut off by said bucket falling from the ceiling and hitting the X that he wasn't yet standing on.
"Dang it! That took us half an hour to set up!" Bunny complained when Tooth got up.
"Wait! Guys, wheres Sandy?" She asked, looking around the room.
"Hes taking a nap- WE STRAY FROM TOPIC AGAIN!" Santa bellowed as he pointed to Pitch again, "Please just get on with it!"
"Very well." The dark haired man muttered as he held up the pictures and began to flip them quickly so the picture began to move.
'What goes together better, than darkness and cold?'
Jack stayed quiet as he considered what had just been said, but in the end he would refuse the offer. The final scenes of the flip show were of Baby Tooth being thrown, the staff being snapped, and Jack pushed over the edge of the clift and into a nearby grave, kinda like in the Adam's Family- And then the pit he was in- Caught fire?
"Don't burn them, you idiot!" Pitch yelped as Bunny held a lighter to the flip book. "Do you know how long it took to draw that!?"
"Well now you don't know any more evidence and the flip show was stupid." Bunny said bluntly as he blew out the pages of Jack falling over the clift. "Except this part."
"Guys, what are we trying to prove again?" Jack asked as he got up. "I'm confused, so do any of you actually know what happened in Antarctica or-"
"Nope."
"No idea."
"Not a clue."
"What did you think this court was for anyway?"
"Wait! So you held a mock trial, set this whole thing up, just so you could find out what really happened that day?" Jack demanded to know and when everyone nodded, he groaned. "You do realize you could have just asked me what happened? Or Baby Tooth?"
"Yes, but this seemed so much more fun. Plus you're a compulsive liar at times." North said with a shrug. "And it did prove that you are innocent- sorta."
"I'm outta here... You coming PB?" Jack asked as he got up and looked over at his supposed enemy.
Said person got up and the two went to leave, leaving the rest of the Guardians in an awkward silence. That was until Jack came rushing back in and began to frantically search for something.
"Wait, no one move... Shit." He muttered as he looked around.
"Lost your contact again Jack?" Bunny asked but then got silenced by Jack's glare.
"No... But I seemed to have misplaced my keys..." North got up quickly when he heard this.
"So a mystery? I think this calls for a-"
"NO!"
