Ok this is just a random filler chapter, if anyone has any suggestions for future chapters then go ahead and suggest them. If I don't get any then I think I might have one or two chapters left in this before saying the end.
Enjoy!
Chapter 8: Joyrides and hedgehogs aren't food.
"Jack? Jack?!" I whisper yelled, sneaking along a hallway at North's workshop. I was nervous, being almost stepped on by a yeti does that to you.
"Boo!" Jack said, floating up behind me. I hissed as I turned to face him.
"You know I hate it when you do that." I scolded.
"Whatever, come on." Jack scooped me up into his hoody pocket.
"Once again, you really should warn me before doing that." I say as I claw his stomach in slight fear.
"Ouch, note taken!" Jack said, wincing at my claws. I was about to say something else when Jack ran into a great red thing. I tucked my head into the pocket as North turned around. I was instantly swamped in a horrendous stench that nearly made me hack a hairball.
"Jack? What is wrong? You know shouldn't zip 'round like that, you might crash into yeti." North said, I could tell he was smiling from the tone of his voice.
"Right, North… I was just looking for you…um… the elves got into the paint again." Jack quickly said.
"Again, honestly. Why are they always getting under boot?" North mumbled along with something in Russian and walked down the hall.
"That was close." Jack muttered as we continued down the hall.
"Do you ever wash this thing?" I coughed as I pulled my head out of the hoody.
"It's not my fault that Bunny got even with me for our last prank." Jack grumbled.
"Wha'd he do?" I asked with a slight purr.
"He threw a stink bomb at me, I'm lucky to have gotten off what I did." Jack smirked in an evil way, "and I already know how I'm gonna get back at him."
"I'm in." I said as we turned a corner to face a large wooden door.
"We're here." Jack smiles and tries to turn the door knob. It was locked.
"Stand back, pretty boy, let a pro handle this." I said, leaping out of his pocket and turning mostly human. I use my claws to pick the lock; soon we were inside the launch pad. North must have done a prep flight with his sleigh a little while ago, because the reindeer and sleigh were out and ready for take off. Without hesitating I leapt up into the sleigh.
"Wow." Was all I could say as the dashboard lot up and a globe came to life.
"I know, wanna take it for a spin?" Jack asked, landing next to me in the driver seat.
"You know how to drive?" I ask hesitantly.
"Yeah, North let me during the whole Pitch fiasco." Jack said, picking up the reigns and gave them a flick, "buckle up."
"There's no seat belts." I say, looking around.
"As North would say, 'that was just expression.' Hold on." Jack said as the deer galloped across the ice. At first I was holding on for dear life, but then I slowly raised my head and watched the ice tunnels whoosh past us. It was a beautiful sight and the loop the loops were a great touch.
"Wahoo!" Jack and I called in unison as we rocketed out the exit and into the sky.
"Where too?" Jack asked as we leveled off.
"I don't care just go fast!" I said as I leaned over the edge of the sleigh to look at the ground below. Jack suddenly jerked the sleigh and I let out a small screech as I fell backwards into his shoulder.
"Saved your life." Jack said smirking.
"More like almost made me lose it!" I said, shoving his shoulder.
"Whatever." Jack continued to smirk. We flew around the Northern hemisphere a bit before there was a strange beeping sound.
"Jack? Come in, Jack." North's voice crackled through a grainy screen. I ducked out of view of the screen, not wanting North to see me and to look over the edge of the sleigh again.
"Oh… hi North." Jack smiled to the screen.
"You bring sleigh back now!" North bellowed, "is not toy for joyriding!"
"Ok, ok. Just having a little fun." Jack says as he turns the sleigh around and heads back to the pole.
"I better hop off now," I say, pulling a snow globe from a… glovebox? I think that's what it was, at least.
"Scaredy cat." Jack mutters.
"See ya around, Snowflake!" I say and through the globe, whispering "home" before I did so. I jumped from the sleigh and into the rainbow vortex that the globe created. Landing in a crouch on a forest floor, I stood up and dusted myself off. A rustle in the grass caught my attention and I was instantly in cat mode. I slunk into the grass, waiting for the creature to appear. Soon a little hedgehog scurried out from a bush, picking up a discarded nut as it went. I had never seen a hedgehog this close before. It's fur stuck out in weird spikes that looked as though they could be soft. All I knew is that it was small and I was hungry. I slowly stalked towards the creature until I was right behind it. I raised a paw and made to bat it into the air. The instant my paw touched the spines, I regretted hunting this creature. The poor thing squeaked and scurried away as I licked my paw. I winced as I felt a spine actually stuck in my paw. Huffing in annoyance, I gripped the spine in my teeth, and tried to pull it out. When that didn't work I transformed into my human self and gripped it with my uninjured hand. I wiggled it until it came out, swearing to never tangle with a hedgehog for as long as I lived.
Later, after I had caught a bird to eat, Jack flew down next to me.
"What's new kitty cat?" He joked as he twirled his staff.
"Nothing much, you?" I said, licking my paw.
"North grounded me." He huffed.
"So why aren't you in your room, sulking?" I tease, knowing very well why. Nothing and no one could keep Jack Frost in one place for too terribly long.
"I still have my Guardian duties to do, so North says I'm only grounded from having fun." Jack smirks, waving his staff be summons a few clouds that start snowing lightly.
"That's impossible, he knows that, right?" I ask, scratching my ear.
"Yeah, he's just relieved I didn't scratch his paint job." Jack chuckles and swings his staff; frost creeps up the trees in beautiful swirls.
"Hmm." I say, distracted by the snow.
"Hey Krysta, why do you transform into a cat?" Jack suddenly asks me.
"I have no idea, I guess it's just part of who I am." I shrug.
"Nice, well stay out of trouble kitten!" Jack says as he floats up into the sky.
"How many times do I have to say not to call me that!" I yell after him. His echoing laugh is the only answer I get.
