"Aw, but Bunnymund," Jack pleaded. "I have three months." Jack gave puppy eyes to Mund who rolled his eyes. Bunnymund wasn't impressed with Jack at all. He looked like he was going to kill him when he showed up.
"Frosty, I swear, you haven't even brought snow to half of America yet! Not to mention Europe! You have to do your job!" Mund snapped. "You don't want me to get Seraphina after you, do you?" Jack shook his head slowly. "That's what I thought. Now get going now!"
Jack turned to me and shrugged. "You heard the boss man," he muttered. "Gotta do my job..." He rolled his eyes. "I'll see you soon, I promise." He kissed my lips and I knew Mund was making faces.
"Bye," I said sadly. I didn't want Jack to go again. He smiled at me before flying away.
"What do you see in the lad?" Mund scoffed.
"Do you really want to have that conversation with me?" I laughed at his disgusted look. Bunnymund was so much like a father to me. "But I really do need to talk to you, Mund." Mund saw that I was nervous and frowned.
"You're not-"
"No I'm not pregnant," I snapped. He chuckled slightly. "This is important, Bunny. It's about dreams I've been having."
"Dreams? What kind of dreams?" he asked.
Mund and I were standing by the lake, the forest surrounding us. Snow blanketed the earth, and the ice was a thick sheet over the lakes surface. Snow still fell softly, like cotton, to the ground. The snow was about one foot deep, so I levitated off the ground. My hands were numb, as was my nose. My cheeks felt raw from the cold wind that swept through Burgess.
I explained to Mund about my dreams and how I was trapped in a dark room. This troubled him nearly as much as it troubled me. His expression reminded me of Jamie when I told him; he looked deeply concerned for me.
"I don't understand why I'm the only one having these dreams." I frowned. There had to be a big reason as to why I was only having these dreams. It was like a few months ago when I had seen Evil in my head when he was planning to destroy us. And he felt my presence. The memory sent a shiver down my spine. I clenched my teeth feeling angry. It was not fair that I was having these dreams. I hadn't any idea what they meant... I just hope I wasn't seeing my future. This sent a chill through my body.
"I don't know, Soph," Mund said softly. "But you have all of us looking out for you if anything does happen, okay?" I nodded, but that didn't exactly help me. I had a feeling deep inside me that we were dealing with much darker forces than Evil and his army of the undead.
-.-.-.-.-
It was strange. For once I could see in the dim lighting. I wasn't blinded by darkness any longer. Hesitantly, I crept down the long narrow hall. I could hear voices, not a cold laugh. What troubled me was that one of the voices was familiar... Too familiar. My hands trembled as I walked further down the hall. Near the end of the hall was a turnoff going right. The voices were around the corner. I knew who the voice belonged to, and I held back a gasp by biting down on my tongue.
"You will lead them to me, boy," a cold voice snarled. I knew that this was the same man who had been laughing in all those other dreams. I knew this was a dream... But it felt so real. I was terrified.
"I can't lead them all here," I heard him say. I couldn't believe it was him. I thought I could trust him; I was wrong. I felt so angry. How could he do this to me? I felt tears burn my eyes and I blinked, shocked by my strong feeling of hate. "I... I could lead one person here, though. Sophie." I heard the man laugh. It sent tremors through my body. I heard the boy gasp. "What-? Where-? Get off me! Who are you?" I tilted my head to the side, shocked at his sudden confusion. My stomach twisted as I heard a hair-raising scream echo through the hall.
"You'll lead them here, Jack Frost, even if it's the last thing you do." The man chuckled. "And that can be arranged."
-.-.-.-.-
"Jamie-" I gasped, following my brother around the house. I had to roar over the crying of Ben. "Just- Jamie!"
"I don't know where I put it," he snapped. "Pippa! Where's Ben's teddy?" He turned to me. "It's basically the only thing that will get him to sleep."
"Reminds me of you and your bunny teddy," I muttered. I sighed as he went and searched behind the couch. I walked over to the other couch, picked up the pillow where a familiar looking leg was poking out. I picked up the teddy and smiled weakly. "Really? I thought you got over sleeping with Bunny- ugh! That's not what I meant to say at all!" My cheeks went red with embarrassment. It sounded way better in my head. Kind of. "Is this it?"
Jamie turned around and snatched the teddy out of my hands. "I have gotten over that phase, thank you very much." He stuck his tongue out at me and I chuckled. "And yeah, this is now Ben's teddy." He raced out of the sitting room and ran up to the babies room. I waited patiently, tapping my foot on the hardwood.
Jamie came down five minutes later, looking exhausted. Under his eyes was dark; his eyes drooped slightly and he was yawning. This baby was wearing him out. But I could also tell he was happy and that made me warm inside.
"Sorry about that," he apologised. "Anyway, you were saying something?" He sat down on one of the seats, his hands stretched behind his head.
"Yes," I confirmed. "It's important too." I told him about the dream I had last night. I felt disturbed by it. Why would Jack betray me like that? Then I remembered the moment when he sounded utterly confused and scared. Maybe he was being... Controlled. Brainwashed. There was so many possibilities and each one worried me. Jack would never do anything to hurt me- or so I thought. Why would he go to the bad side? It had to be manipulation. And if it was, it was best that we were a safe distance from one another. When he returned I won't go anywhere alone with him.
Jamie looked surprised when I finished. Even he never expected Jack to go to the bad side. Nobody did. "Sophie. Tell the others. I'm no use to you," he told me. "Tell Mund, tell Seraphina. Tell them. They'll be able to help you. I'm useless."
"You're not useless!" I said. "You helped Jack against Pitch, remember?"
"I was a kid, Soph," he replied. "This is different. This is... Darker stuff. You need to get the others and you have to find Jack. I know he wouldn't just betray you like that. There's more to this than you know. You have to help him before it's too late."
I nodded. "You're right," I agreed. "I never thought I'd have to save Jack Frost." I chuckled darkly at the thought. "Tell mom and dad. I'll... I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Good luck, Sophie," Jamie said. I smiled at him before I left the house. It was dark and snow still fell. I wondered if what I saw in my dream the the present or the future. I hoped it was the future; I didn't want to be too late.
I had to save Jack Frost.
