Her Past

Chapter Eight

Charles Starkweather

Maka was tied to a chair in a room with a single hanging light bulb. She could only see about a foot around her, the rest of the room was dark. She remembered this situation from when she was little. She didn't like it then and she doesn't like it now. Strange how some things don't change. Maka rolled her eyes at her last thought. This really wasn't the time for self-inflicted sarcasm.

Soul. He tried so hard to save her. She really wished she hadn't had looked back at the exact moment he was knocked out. She's pretty sure that will haunt her for a while. She should have never had let him move in with her. She knew something like this was possible. That was why she originally filed for a single room dorm. No roommate. It was too dangerous. She had a past. She told Death that! He knew that anyways, her mom was the death scythe meister before she disappeared! Why?! Why did she have to meet Soul? Why did they have to click straight off and become partners? Why did Lord Death talk her into letting him with in with her? There were other rooms that he could have moved into. True she was the only one who had the extra space and that he was her partner. But still…

Maka sighed. She would never regret meeting Soul. Since she met him a year ago, her life has been happier. She finally had real friends. She had opened up to people. She even got along with her father better. Just barely, but that's still something. That's probably all over now. She probably won't make it out of this place.

The blonde's brooding was put on hold when she heard the squeak of a door. She looked in the direction of the noise but could see anything passed her little ring of light. She heard footsteps though and wondered who would come speak with the prisoner. She didn't have to wonder long.

A young man, in about to his mid-twenties, stepped into the light. He had sort of a square head and blond hair that was combed back. Out of his mouth hung a cigarette, he almost looked like a greaser but he didn't have the white shirt or leather jacket.

"So Maka, we meet again," Charles opened.

"Unfortunately."

He raised an eyebrow at her. "I really don't want to listen to that smartass attitude."

"Then why the hell did you bring me here?" she snapped.

"Well for one, I don't remember you being this annoying."

"Well I don't remember being this annoyed."

"Touche."

"I don't know where my mother is," Maka admitted straight off.

Charles rolled his eyes. "Yes, so I've heard. But right now, this isn't about her. It's about you." He walked closer to her and then circled once, examining her. "You've grown up quite a bit. Still fancy pig tails." He gives a small smile. "They suit you." He put his hand under her chin and made her look at him. "You're so cute even with that scowl. But I have to say, those brilliant green eyes of yours are what really entice me."

Maka grimaced. Entice? Why is he talking like this? He's going to kill her so why examine her like this?

"So my little Maka," Charles started. The blonde's eyebrows scrunched together. My little Maka? My little Maka?! What the hell is this man getting at? "I have a proposition for you. You can either stay here and die or you can stay here and become my partner. What do you think?"

"You're not a weapon. How can I be your partner? And it doesn't seem like much of a choice, stay here or stay here."

"How do you know if I'm a weapon or not? You don't know me very well."

"Well, I'm sure I would have heard by now. Being a weapon isn't something someone keeps a secret well. Especially someone as notorious at you."

"Hmm," he said circling her again. He ran his fingers through her hair, which sent disgusted shivers down her spine. He stopped in front of her again and squatted down to her height. "Maybe I just haven't found the right partner yet. You have to match wavelength, do you not?"

"Yeah but-"

He put his finger to her lips to quiet her. "I'm sure we would match. I'll make us match. You're mine now."

Well I have officially made it into a weapon/meister story. I hope you all like the conversion. And maybe I can get some more followers. Oh and these chapters might be a bit shorter for a while because I'm splitting them between Maka's and Soul's POV. Next we get to see how Soul is managing. Please tell me how you like it! .
