Scathach waited on the beach for us. It was as though she was expecting us to arrive when we did. Alvern clumsily (trying to be smooth) got out of the Sleigh. Him and Nightlight decided to let Jack and I have alone time to catch up on things. Even though he had only been captured/taken over about a week, it felt much, much longer than that.
I wouldn't... couldn't let go of his hand as we flew to Ireland.
Home sweet home! Bribry chimed as he jumped out of the sled. Mund looked almost miserable that he wasn't able to talk to Demon anymore. I guess it was because no one else liked to give out about Jack with him. Honestly, he'd think of anything to rant about Jack. But we all know that he cares about Jack, even if he doesn't want to admit it.
But, god, Ireland was absolutely freezing!
"Do you know how many times I've actually been attacked since you lot left?" Scathach did not sound, nor did she look, happy. She had her sword in her hand, her grip on it so tight that her knuckles bared white. No way was she going to use it on us.
She must have noticed our nervous glances to her sword as she sheathed after sighing deeply. Hey, can you blame us? She was the most powerful warrior in the Celtic region. I had every right to be scared of her, to be fair.
"I'm going to guess a lot?" Jack suggested helpfully. He grinned at her but she narrowed her eyes at him. Jack took a step back, obviously feeling intimidated by Scathach. I couldn't blame him. Those eyes were bloody terrifying. A basilisk wouldn't even look at her, he'd be too frightened to. I was pretty sure we had a good chance against Balor with Scathach on our side. I hope.
She turned her gaze to the rest of us and nodded slowly.
We then explained to Scathach what we were up against. The news seemed to unsettle her a little. It must have been pretty bad if it made her nervous. I didn't know her long, but I had a feeling she didn't get scared often. That thought made me feel sick.
"Going up against Balor won't be easy at all," Scathach admitted quietly. Even when she spoke she sounded nervous.
It will be almost impossibleBribry confirmed. Even his weapons would probably make you drop you dead in fright.
I shot Bribry a look. He wasn't exactly helping at the moment. We beat Evil, I had to remind myself. We could do this. And hopefully, unexpectedly like last time, no one would die. Hopefully. But I got the horrible feeling that this was even more dangerous than Evil. It was more dangerous than Pitch. This was a war that not everyone would survive.
I was shaking. I was bloody shaking! I was too scared. I felt about ready to throw up.
But I also felt determined. We had to defeat Balor. He was causing too much hassle in our lives, and that was not cool.
"We can take him," North said, waving his sword in front of him.
"I should hope so," Scathach replied. "It's going to be hard and we'll only get one shot. Balor rarely opens his eyes, and mostly fights blind. His other senses grow stronger when his eyes are closed. And he's skilled with his weapons. We should count ourselves lucky that he has not yet risen his giants. Then our mission would be absolutely impossible."
"Well, what are we standing around for?" Mund asked. "Let's look for this guy..."
His voice suddenly faded out. Time felt like it was slowing down. I couldn't hear anything, except for the sound of a horse running towards us. I could move normally, but everyone else moved unnaturally slow. My heart race began to pick up.
Out of the shadows came a man riding a horse. It took everything in me not to scream in terror. The man... his head. His head was under his arms, the eyes in flames. When he slowed in front of me, his head turned to face me. I felt as though I was paralyzed.
"Sophie Bennett," he said. I think he said it anyway, as I didn't see his mouth move. It was a cause for worry!
The Headless Horseman. Everyone knew of him, mostly. I had heard of him as a child... I couldn't remember what he did when he came to a person, but I knew it was not good. I was trembling.
The thing looked at me a final time before galloping off.
Time came back to normal.
"... I'm ready to kick this guys butt." Mund had finished his sentence.
"Are you okay, Sophie?" Jack placed a hand on my shoulder. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
I wish I'd seen a ghost. It would have made more sense than what just happened.
That was Dullahan. I looked over at Bribry. I gave him a questionable look. He's bad news, Soph .Dullahan only says the name of someone who's going to die soon.
I felt like bricks had just crashed down on my chest. Dullahan had just said my name. In other words: I was going to die soon. I gave a weak smile to Jack to assure him I was okay.
I was definitely not okay.
*.*.*.*
"Do you even know where we're going?" Jack asked for the millionth time since we began to travel through Ireland. Honestly, he could get so impatient sometimes. It could actually get quite annoying sometimes. But I didn't mind because I missed him so much.
Scathach rolled her eyes, again, at him. "I feel insulted you doubt me, Frost. I've been around much longer than you have and I've roamed this country for as long as I can remember. I know it like the back of my hand."
"I wasn't doubting you," Jack replied. "But we've been walking- Whoa. Okay, weird feeling." His hand reached up to his head and his face scrunched up. When his hand dropped, he turned and glared at Bribry. Well, uh-oh. He looked like he was going to freeze him, but then he turned and frowned at me. He shook his head and continued on with Alvern and Scathach. I stopped walking and Bribry came over to me.
I reckon he's getting his memories back. I nodded in agreement.
Oh, wonderful. This was exactly what we needed right now.
Was he mad at me? I didn't do anything wrong. I grimaced at the memory. Okay, maybe I did do something wrong... But not entirely. I kissed Jack, who wasn't really Jack at the time. IT WAS A MOMENT OF WEAKNESS! I was missing Jack and he was there in body, and I momentarily forgot myself. Damn that bloody demon right now!
Okay, maybe I should be honest with you. I looked down at Bribry who was walking beside me, his tail between his legs. Oh. Well, he was worried about something. Those desires I mentioned before weren't exactly the desires you might be thinking about. Well, it is partly. Well... Actually. Never mind. I think Jack's a little pissed off with me at the moment and I'd rather not be number one on his enemy list.
You can't do that! I exclaimed. That's not fair. You have to tell me now.
But it's not my place. I gave him a look and he rolled his eyes. Fine. Fine. But I might be wrong, okay? Well... Jack Frost has been thinking about children a lot lately. Of course, not in a creepy way! I stared blankly at Bribry. No way could he be saying what I think he was. He saw my gaze. Not trying to scare you, Soph, but I think Jack wants-
"Hurry up you two! We're almost there," Scathach called back to us. I hadn't realised how far ahead the rest of the group had gone. My mind was buzzing, and my heart was racing. No way. Bribry had to be messing with me. No way was this happening.
Jack wants a child?
Bribry looked up to me again, and slowly, he nodded his head.
There was way too much happening at the moment to even consider it. My cheeks were burning.
Things suddenly just got interesting.
