Raven whirled around to face the woman who had kidnapped her friends already semi-floating in the air ready for a fight
"Azarath Metrion Zinth-" she began hands glowing.
"Raven, Raven, Raven," interrupted Mackenna snapping her fingers "None of that now."
Suddenly Raven found herself in a force field of sorts that seemed to strip of her of her powers.
"We can't you have ruining my plans can we?" Then Mackenna's voice became menacing "Or that's not all I'll strip from you."
"Leave her alone," said Beast Boy quietly from his own force field "what did she ever do to you! What did any of us ever do to you?"
Raven was great at reading people and from the glint in Mackenna's eye she could tell Beast Boy's questions had gotten to the older women, they had bothered her and for a second she faltered.
"Enough talking," Mackenna barked then muttered an incantation under her breath and snapped her fingers. Then they all passed out.
When Raven woke up she was strapped to a metal dissection table still stripped of her powers. Looking around she realized everyone else had received the same treatment she thought they were alone until a low voice spoke from the shadows.
"Awake are you?" said Mackenna "Now the real fun can begin."
Raven looked at her and saw a flash of silver in the witch's hand and realized immediately what was happening after seeing what the bitch had done to Starfire, Raven gulped and braced herself.
"Don't worry my dear," said Mackenna as she traced Raven's features with a small knife "It won't hurt…much."
Raven stared in to the cold green eyes determined not to show her fear even as the little pressure on her neck produced small rivulets of blood. She took strength in her friend's protests even Star had woken up and was yelling abuse at Mackenna in Tamaranean.
Raven had a great pain threshold, having Trigon in your head was good for that type of thing. The shallow cuts on her arms and legs weren't particularly bothering. Nor was Mackenna's explanation in her ear
"Never take love for granted," she said in a dark voice "Little Garfield loves you and you refuse to see it, you lead him on, rebuke him you little whore."
When Mackenna's head was near her mouth Raven whispered in her ear "I love Beast Boy, so you've got nothing."
Mackenna stiffened and her knife dug into Raven's arm right above her elbow and she screamed. Then all hell broke loose.
Beast Boy had been having yelling himself hoarse trying to get the bitch to pay attention to him instead. He could tell from Raven's grimaces that she was in pain. Then when she screamed in agony. He lost it literally and saw red. The Beast had been released.
Mackenna hadn't planned for the Beast apparently because he easily broke free of his bonds and went straight for her.
Mackenna only had the time to mutter a hasty incantation which sent the Beast flying in to Cyborg freeing him as well. As soon as Mackenna was distracted by the Beast Raven found her powers return to her with that she broke hers and the other's restraints, floated into the air eyes glowing and ready for a fight.
"Now let's have some fun," said Raven smirking.
Effortlessly the team slipped into formation though as they'd never been separated, even Jinx and KF found their spots, as the fighting became more intense Mackenna's spells becoming less focused on causing pain and lethal.
She threw a hex at Raven that almost knocked her out of the air, in retaliation Raven threw a cinderblock at her with pieces of pipes and what not sticking out. Mackenna was about to stop until the four leaf clover that Beast Boy had given her earlier fell from her utility belt. As it fell through the air Mackenna looked at it and froze.
Letting the cinderblock hit her and a loose pipe to stab her in the stomach.
Raven was shocked how she had missed the cinderblock coming at her when Raven remembered the four leaf clover. The four leaf clover had stopped her. It was all true, her book had been right.
Malerie M. Night.
Malerie Mackenna Night.
Suddenly it made sense the whole thing. Malerie had kidnapped a perfect family, the one she'd never had. A four leaf clover had given Malerie hope, it had brought her back and now it had ultimately killed her.
Everyone automatically stopped fighting, Starfire collapsing exhausted into Robin's arms.
"Raven she needs medical attention," said Robin as he cradled his girlfriend.
"I could run her back to the tower," said KF as he helped Jinx up.
For second it looked like Robin was going to protest but then he smiled gratefully and nodded his assent.
When KF returned Jinx said "We should be taking off anyway," as she brushed herself off, glancing at Robin who was looking at her warily despite the fact she'd just saved his but many times.
"Thanks for the help," called Cyborg as KF whisked Jinx away, the two arguing about a bet.
"I should follow her example," said Bee as she flew "Titans East must be missing me, thanks guys! See ya Sparky!"
Suddenly the noise of a car honking could be heard outside "That'll be the T-Car," said Cyborg "I've got it on autopilot let's go Robin."
"What about her," said Robin gesturing at Mackenna.
"Ill handle it," said Raven speaking up for the first time "Go Robin Starfire needs you."
"You coming BB," continued Cyborg.
"I'll wait for Raven" he said seeing as she was still kneeling beside Mackenna's still form.
Him and Cyborg left though Robin hesitated slightly.
As Robin and Cyborg left Beast Boy made his way to Raven's crouching form.
"She isn't dead" said Raven as he approached "I can heal her."
"Oh don't bother," said Mackenna in a different voice then before, this one was brighter "I'm already dying."
"Don't talk!" said Raven "You'll only make it worse and I can heal you Malerie."
"I've got a tumor, I'll die anyway let me talk" said the dying girl sardonically "I want to thank you,"
"Thank me for what?" said Raven
"For freeing me from Mackenna," here her voice got quieter as her breathing got shallower "For knowing my story, letting me die as Malerie. Thank you."
Raven could feel herself crying as Malerie squeezed her hand tight. Suddenly Malerie began to speak again but not to Raven to someone obviously only Malerie could see
"I'm not afraid of death Aiden; I'll go by myself even if it's painful. I'll always carry on the dream we had together. Being with you was so wonderful, the only good thing that had ever happened to me. Thank you," and then the hand gripping Raven's slackened and both of her brilliant green eyes slid shut. Malerie Mackenna Night was dead.
Slowly Raven placed Malerie's hand on her chest and turned to Beast Boy wrapped her arm around him and cried.
"Who was she," he asked Raven.
"Her name was Malerie Night, her father died when she was eight, her mother died when she was twelve, her best friend died when she was sixteen and her boyfriend died when she was twenty," said Raven quietly "It drove her insane, her personality split to be able to deal. Malerie was innocent."
"How did you know that though," asked Beast Boy
"I read it in a book," said Raven as she looked at the thing that Malerie had slipped her into her hand. It was a four leaf clover.
Im sorry that's all I can really say right. Ill try to explain first I was camping but then school started again and then I got blocked and I really wanted to make this a great chapter for you guys so I apologize profusely. Dishonor on me and my goat. Hope you enjoy
