A/n Wow! 18 reviews since I last updated =3 Yay haha Thank you guys! I don't think I'll be able to reply to all 18 because a few of them had similar questions, so I'm going to respond to the ones with questions or ideas etc. Oh by the way, if this chapter sucks, it is because I am on a major writers' block and I was just trying to squeeze a short 769 word chapter in to assure you that I'm not abandoning this story! Lol
lostsurviver: Hahaha I wish! Sadly, no, you're not my 300th reviewer lol =) I have 204 reviews so far, and I believe you are my 189th reviewer haha ^.^
DawnflowerMoonshinestarchase: That would be awesome if Feathersong could turn invisible, but I'm afraid that is not a power she possesses!
broweiss27: Jayfeather has been able to see Feathersong since he first saw her, at first he thought he was imagining things, but after a while he realized that he wasn't and yeah.. =)
zZzSapphireBluezZz: Omg ;~; I'm sorry if this isn't very good as far as length or quality goes, but since I've been struggling to produce something in my normal style of writing, I changed it a little and gave this a go. So excuse me if it's very short; my writing is just developing and I wanted to know what you guys thought about it before I continued writing like this or go back to how it was before.
TheDominoEffect: Half Moon and Jayfeather/ Jay's Wing are still going to meet and fall in love! And there will be problems with Jayfeather and Feathersong afterwards because of his encounter with her! Oh noes, I'm giving too much away.. *crawls back into my hole and hides*
Foxstar - Leader of FoxClan: Lol Feathersong isn't dead! I'll give you a hint: She is closely associated with StarClan, and she doesn't even realize it yet! =) Lol don't mind Jayfeather's snide remarks, he's just a crabby kitty. The blind seeing her is not her theory, but the deaf hearing her is, because there is no proof that deaf cats can hear her yet.
I leave the camp, lost in my thoughts. The Gathering is tonight, and Dovekit and Ivykit are becoming apprentices in a few days. It is becoming harder and harder to remember the things from my former life as a two-leg. The words; the information from those Warrior books are no longer tangible. I have to keep it stored inside this tiny cat brain I have now. And with all the information about the prophecy and clans including cats, plus the knowledge of where and when it is best to hunt, what kind of game is out in the forest at what time of the year; I don't have very much room left for two-leg memories. No, I can't even remember my name.
Because I'd been so distracted, I snap back into present where I find myself walking towards the lake. I've taken this route so many times I'm on autopilot. Jayfeather's sitting at the edge of the dip, where the lake had originally been before this drought. Although he cannot see, his gaze travels across the water, watching the wavering heat in the distance. Of course, he isn't actually watching it.
He doesn't look at me when I join him; sit down beside him and have my thin silver fur brush against his thick and grey, ruffled fur. After a few moments, he turns his head, scanning me quickly; taking in every part of me, from ear tip to tail tip. "I need to know."
I tilt my head to the side, indicating bafflement. "What do you mean?"
"Who is my mother?" He asks, pulling away from me slightly so that he can watch me. His expression is almost cautious.
I give in; I've kept him in the dark for long enough. "Leafpool… Your mother is Leafpool."
Jayfeather's tail flicks, the surprise mildly crossing his features. Perhaps he already had some sort of clue that it would be her. "And my father?"
Oh StarClan. "Crowfeather."
The medicine cat sneers. He narrows his eyes and frowns at me. "Disgusting," He mutters, looking towards the WindClan territory. "What was she thinking?"
"She fell in love, Jayfeather." I say, jumping to defend her. "And you better be damn relieved that she did, otherwise you wouldn't be alive today." Although Leafpool had been aggressive towards me for getting close to Jayfeather, and then later insisting that I was part of a prophecy and making me very uncomfortable, I still loved her in a way. It killed me to know that her kits would neglect her after they found out about their birth.
"That isn't an excuse." Jayfeather growls with clenched teeth. "She didn't know we were going to be Three; she…" His lips curl as he spits out: "Mated with that WindClan cat."
I clench my teeth. "If it wasn't for her, you wouldn't be alive. And if you weren't alive, the Clans would have, without a doubt, ended." My glare softens when he looks at his paws, and I sigh and lean against him. "If you weren't alive, I would never have met you."
Jayfeather tenses. And after a long silence, I notice his shoulders drop, as though he's relaxing. "Then I guess I am glad," he breathes, "that I'm alive."
I look up at him and see his eyes shining with… what, pain? No… I can't identify the expression on his face, and it irritates me.
If only I could read others as well as he does.
After leaning against him for a while and enjoying his company, I remember a question I'd been dying to ask. Of course, if I'd been really dying to ask it, it would have been the first thing I'd said when I saw him. "What was your dream about?" Just as the last word leaves my mouth I remember why I hadn't asked it.
"I don't want to talk about it," is the blunt reply I get.
"But I do. And I want to know why you had to come and sleep with me afterwards."
He looks at me again, with that sightless blue gaze I always lose myself in. It used to unnerve me, how he looked at me with such intensity that I almost felt like he could see.
"It wasn't a dream." He snaps.
"What was your nightmare about then?" I retort, getting impatient.
Jayfeather sighs. "Feathersong, do we really have to-"
"Yes. Just tell me what it was about! I told you who your mother is!" I say; almost in a whine.
I study him, waiting for him to give in and describe his dr-nightmare. It seems like forever until he finally speaks, and when he opens his mouth, it's hoarse and croaky.
"It was about you." He says, pain flashing in his eyes. "I lost you."
A/n Once again, I am very sorry for the poor quality and length of this chapter! I am considering changing my style and I just gave this a whirl, which is why this chapter is very short (because if you don't like it, I don't want you to have to read heaps of bad writing). My style is still developing so please excuse this rough draft of what is to come if you enjoy this more than the other type of writing.
