-Haunted Memories-
Link, Yoshi and Toad walked through the jungle, looking for something to occupy their time for today. Toad sighed, "What are we gonna do today?"
"You just asked that ten minutes ago," Link pointed out. Toad shrugged, "Well, we still haven't found anything to do in that time."
"Look, a river!" Yoshi pointed out, motioning towards a river off to the side. The three moved past some trees and came face with the quick moving river before them. It seemed to be a rapid and a while downstream they saw it led to a waterfall. Upstream, they saw stepping stones that would allow them to cross. Yoshi suggested, "There's something."
"All right," Link smiled, "I'll go first."
The trio made their way upstream to the stepping stones. Once there, Link took a deep breath and jumped onto the first stone, which was more than large enough to give him safe landing. However, he observed that the stones got smaller as they went across. He decided he better be careful. He slowly, but surely made his way across. Once on the other side, Toad called out, "Ha! You're so slow, even I could cross faster than you!"
"Just try it then!" Link challenged playfully. Toad nodded and started jumping across. He made it about halfway across when he jumped onto yet another stone. However, he rushed the landing and was starting to slip. He waved his arms as he tried his best to regain balance. Link and Yoshi looked on, terror striking them like lightning. But before they could do anything, Toad slipped and fell into the rushing water.
"HELP!" Toad cried out as loud as he could over the roar of the water drowning out his voice. As soon as he did, however, water gushed down his throat, silencing him as the river rushed him down stream. Link wasted no time in acting and raced down the river side, trying to keep up. He was moving as fast as he could, but he could see he was having a lot of trouble keeping up with the pace the river was carrying Toad. He tried to think of a way to save his friend before he went over the waterfall, and that's when he saw it; a branch hanging over the river, low enough for Toad to grab.
"Toad!" Link shouted, "Grab the branch!"
Toad looked up and saw the branch, now nearing him. He reached up as high as he could and managed to grab onto the very end of it. Once he had it, he pulled himself up a bit and readjusted his hold, grabbing it more firmly. He replied, "Got it! Now Link, help get me out!"
Link ran to the closest point he could get to Toad, and started to grab onto the branch to help Toad out, and that's when it happened. His body froze right there, his will went numb and haunted memories came flooding into his mind. He saw what happened all those years ago, when his father braved the stampede of wildebeests to save him. But after getting him to safety, his father was swept away by the river of stampeding animals. And after managing to grab onto the cliffside and hold on, Link rushed to help him up. But he was too late; his father lost grip and fell to his demiseā¦
"Link, I'm slipping!" Toad called out to his friend. Link's wits returned as he snapped out of his daze. He saw Toad was indeed starting to slip. Acting fast, he jumped onto the branch and crawled over to Toad and grabbed his hand, helping pull him up. The two then quickly made their way off and lay in the grass, exhausted and heaving. Toad looked at Link, astounded, and asked, "What was wrong with you?"
Link's mouth hung open as he tried to search for an explanation. Instead, he stood up, and walked off into the jungle alone, leaving Toad there confused and concerned.
Sorry for the short chapter, but it turned out to not be as long as I thought it was going to be. Anyways, as I've said before, I intend to do other adaptions once I finished this one, so if anyone has any particular requests, be sure to mention them in the reviews. However, once again I must note that books/tv series (while not being out of the question) are gonna be a lot more iffy than just movies because of it being way more material. Also, if you request a particular series (book movie or tv) please pick one that's complete, or at least has one particular sub series complete. For instance, just because Legend of Korra is still being made dosen't mean I won't do Avatar: the Last Airbender.
