A-note I am uploading a chapter to one of my four stories every other day.

Snape took a deep breath and entered McGonagall's office "You wanted to speak with me?"

"Yes Severus, I did." McGonagall said. "Is everything okay? You never had anyone take over your classes before." Snape stood silent for a few moments.

"Did you get in trouble with Umbridge?" He asked.

"No. Don't try and avoid my questions Severus." McGonagall said sternly. "What happened?" Snape walked past her to the window. He looked out to catch any student looking in. Only a few students were out in the yard. He flicked his wand to close the red curtain.

"McGonagall I haven't been all that honest with Dumbledore." He confessed.

"What do you mean?" She asked putting a hand gently on Snape's shoulder.

"Do you promise not to recite anything to anyone." He asked sternly.

"Yes, I promise. What are you hiding?"

"My father… He drank...A lot." Snape confessed. "He would fall into a drunken stupor, and lash out at Maria, My mother and me." Snape rubbed his temple. "Not that it mattered earthier way."

"Severus, I had no idea." McGonagall said surprised.

"No one did. It was a well kept family secret." Severus stated. "He would do horrible things to Mom and Maria. He made me watch." McGonagall covered her mouth. "No child should have to go through that."

"Why didn't you report this to Dumbledore?" McGonagall asked.

"He threatened to kill our mother. We couldn't risk that." Snape said.

"I am so terrible sor…" McGonagall started to apologize.

"Don't. I am not looking for people to pity." Snape interrupted. "Everyone will start treating me different. I know. They will either look at me like a dog who lost his leg, or a man who has ill fantasies." He sat down in a chair. "I don't want that, and don't you start to look at me differently."

"Why not, why hide away your feelings?" McGonagall asked. "All the students think you hate them, or they are too scared to approach you."

"I know the students hate me. I know they fear my presences. That's the way I like it." Snape explained.

"Why Severus?" She asked.

"Because everyone who gets close to me gets hurt." Snape answered.

"Is that why you always push people away? Your scared they'll get hurt." McGonagall asked.

"Yes. That is the reason." Severus confessed. "That's why I take points that's why I constantly giving detentions. If the dark lord knew I was close to a Muggle born or someone close to Harry. He would use me to get to them, and vice versa. I can't risk losing someone who I care for again. So I avoid people to keep them safe." McGonagall stood in silence. "You're looking at as though I have changed." He stated.

"I'm sorry. I just didn't expect this, I thought." She attempted to explain.

"You weren't expecting something so drastic to be reveled from my lips." Snape explained for her. "Like I said I don't want to be treated any differently then how I was." McGonagall Just looked down at Snape. She wish she knew of this sooner. Maria always seemed like a happy child.

McGonagall stood at the entrance to the great hall, As the children walked up the stairs.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, Now before we start the feast you will be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin." She paused spotting the young witch with a cast on her arm."Now while you are at Hogwarts your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn points, any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year all the point will be added up and the house with the most point is awarded the house cup. Follow me." McGonagall lead the group into the hall. Throughout the sorting her eyes rarely left the little witches side. "Severus Snape." A little boy with greasy black hair walked sadly up to the chair. The hat called Slytherin. The boy walked to over to the Slytherin table. "Maria Snape." The young witch walked up to the stool. She manage to hear what the hat said.

"Ah you have a brave heart, a smart head, and loyalty." The hat whispered.

"Please place me with my brother." Maria whispered. "We need each other."

"Very well… Slytherin!" The hat called. Maria walked over and sat next to her brother. Who smiled a little. Once the sorting was over and the feast began, McGonagall watched as Maria managing to smile and chat with her brother.

"I am surprise you went into Slytherin." Severus said.

"Actually The hat actually considered to put me in one of the other three house." Maria whispered into his ear. Severus smiled and continued to eat the turkey leg.

"Minevera?" She looked at Dumbledore. "C an you take Miss Snape up to the hospital wing to have her arm healed?" He asked.

"Yes Professor Dumbledore." She answered after the feast McGonagall walked over to Maria. "Miss Snape?" Maria looked up nervously.

"Yes Professor?"Maria asked.

"I have been instructed to take you up to the hospital wing." McGonagall explained. Maria looked at her brother. "Don't worry I will take you to the Slytherin room when we're done."

"Can Severus come with me?" Maria asked. McGonagall looked down at the two siblings.

"I don't see why not. Sure if he wants too." McGonagall answered. "Do you want to come with us Mr. Snape?" She asked. The young boy nodded and got up from his seat. She lead them out of the hall and up the stairs.

"Professor What do you teach?"Maria asked as they turned the corner.

"I teach transfiguration." She answered.

"Is it hard?" Severus asked.

"Not if you study hard, are you looking forward to my classes?" McGonagall asked. Severus shrugged.

"Actually, I can't wait for all the classes. I want to learn all the spells I can." Maria said energetically. They reached the hospital wing. Maria walked to one of the beds and sat down. Madam Pomfrey fixed Maria's arm with a simple flick. "Thank you." Maria said hoping down and walking to her brother.

"Come along If we hurry we can still make it back to the feast." McGonagall said sweeping them out. On their way back Maria and Severus talked silently amongst themselves. McGonagall wondered what they were talking about but never bothered to ask, even if she did Maria and Severus would of changed the subject or say 'oh nothing' like most kids did. Never in a million year would she imagine that these two little children were hiding a secret storm.
