Chapter 23: The royal... interference

I'm back you little mine turtles! Muhahah!

Well, if you don't get why I called you that then I suggest you go read my other fanfics...

Ok, someone answered a question and I have to answer it:

Jojo: Yeah, Yugi and Yami decided to go on a long vacation *laughs evilly*. No, I got a mean PM telling me it was stupid trying to put Yugi and Yami in before the actual story started. I wasn't going to take them off, but I never noticed anyone mentioning them, so I booted them out the door. BUT I have a surprise for you...

Yami: You kick us out and ask us to come back? What kind of writer are you?

Me: Just say hello to Jojo please? I promise to add you to the next fanfic I do if you be nice.

Yugi: Oooh, Yami, be nice please! I want to be put int the A/N sections in the future. Please, Yami?

Yami: *grumbles loudly* Hello... *whispers* What's his name?

Me: *whispering back* Jojo

Yami:*normally* Hello Jojo. Sheik must really care for her reviewers to be making us do this.

Me: I do!

Yugi: So, as a gift for being such a loyal reviewer...

Yugi&Yami: We're staying until the very end of this fanfic! And, we'll be back in later fanfictions too!

Me: I hope you will keep up with my next fanfictions so you can see Yugi and Yami more often. Yami, be a lamb and say the disclaimer.

Yami: "be a lamb"? What the hell does that mean?

Yugi: You're being rude. Someone didn't get their daily dose of vitamin blood. *snickering heard in background*

Yami: Marik? What the he-

Me: No time! This is a rewrite of the last chapter, because the last one sucked like an overpowering vacuum. I swear it was the worst! I am so sorry for those who had to read it. I must have been high or something.

Ok, high on sniffing germ-ex or something. NOTHING ELSE!

But seriously, This is my attempt to write an extremely better version of chapter 23.

Ok, enough of that, Yami! Be the dang lamb!

YAmi: *sighs loudly* She doesn't own Yugioh! Enjoy!

Yugi's POV

How dare he? Some nerves he has! He spilt red wine all over my white gown. I know Joey can be a pig, but this...

Ok, now I sound like Yami. He seems to freak out about minor things like thing. I guess he's just afraid what the king would say.

I wandered the halls trying to find my way back to Yami and my room. As I turned a corner, I could hear the king and another arguing.

"She will become the queen."

"No, she is not prepared. She will destroy the land is she tries to rule."

"She has given so much away to help rule. She must be ready. She is ready to rule the people."

"Let the people decide, father!" A new voice interrupted. It was Yami.

"Prince Yami, now is not the time."

"Yes, it is! Father, please..."

"I think letting the people decide is a great idea."

"Very well, you have two day to impress the people, then my people will come and judge you and the people. be prepared." Footsteps approached me. I ducked behind a pillar and hoped not to be caught. The footsteps walked past me and continued on.

"You're really lucky he didn't catch you." Yami stood at my side.

"Oh! Ra, Yami. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to eavesdrop." I whispered back.

"You're lucky I didn't catch you till the end!" The King appeared on my other side.

"I'm sooory! I promise to not do it again!"

"Don't bother, Yugi. Let's go. I see Joey got a hold of the wine again." Yami smiled and link my arm.

xXx

We did not just get me a new robe. That is all I can say. I ended up being pinned to the bed and... well, you can go from there.

"You're worried about what that idiot said, aren't you?" Yami panted out.

"Well, yes. What if he's right. What if I'm not ready?" I sighed back.

"You are! You gave up a lot for the people. You turn vampire just to help me rule the people. It means a lot to all of us in the kingdom."

"Yeah, I guess. What if the people don't like me? What if they think I'm not ready to rule them?"

"You're having doubts. Stop it, Yugi. Everything will be fine. What do you say we go out into town tomorrow and greet the people?"

"O-ok."

"Good! I'm going to shower. Wanna come?"

"Ew!" I pushed him off the bed and onto the floor. "I'll take one after you're done."

xXx

We roamed the streets together. Everyone looked at us cautiously. We weren't wearing royalty attire so that wasn't why. Maybe they just knew he was the prince.

"Yes, Yugi. They already know. The reason they are staring is because I usually don't walk around the town with someone other than guards." Yami whispered in my ear.

"Y-Yami, how did you-"

"Shh, I'll tell you later! Come on, I want to show you something." HE grabbed my hand and pulled me to a nearby stand selling bread.

"One red bean spread roll, please!" Yami ordered.

"Y-Y-Yes sir! Prince Yami, we were not expecting you today. How is everything, My prince?" The owner shook with fear. It shocked me how afraid he was. Or was it just nervousness?

"Both, Yugi. Everything is well in the kingdom. I have recently become engaged with m'lady." Wait, he told them. Is that even safe to say before marriage?

"How do you do?" I curtsied gently to the owner. His face turned as red as blood. Wait, did I just-

"Yes, it is safe. He's blushing because most royalty would not bow to a commoner, and yes, you did think that, I'll explain later." Yami smiled.

"Will you stop doing that?!" I whined. Yami and the owner both chuckled.

"Congratulations to you both. I will keep you secret. I do wish you both long, prosperous lives." The owner said and handed us a warm red-bean spread roll.

"Thank you" We said at the same time and walked away.

"Since you can hear my thoughts now..." Do the people know you're a vampire?

"Yes, for quite some time."

"Just how long, Yami?"

"I'm not telling you my real age!"

"So you must be really, really, really old!" I laughed. I repeated really over and over in my head just to annoy him.

"Gah, Yugi, stop it! It's so annoying, and I'm not that old!"

"Then tell me!"

"Fifty-thousand..."

"What? That's it?"

"What?"

"I was expecting you to be really old. Like, five hundred thousand or something."

"NO! I-I would actually look a little older. I wouldn't have such a young looking, handsome, gorgeous face like this."

Self-centred much?

"I heard that!"

"Ok, ok, let me have some of that!" I snatch the roll away and bit into it. When I did, red beans oozed out from where I punctured it with my teeth-fangs, actually.

"Hmm, I need to teach you how to retract those in public. I guess that could have been why he was so scared." Yami thought aloud.

"What?" I pulled my mouth away with out tearing a piece off and saw the puncture holes in the role. "Oh. My. Ra! Yami!"

"Relax, the people will know tomorrow any how."

"But-how-fine."

We wandered around more for a while longer. We didn't do much. We stopped at a small lake that many people were at and sat down.

"I love this lake! It's so pretty." I whispered.

"Isn't it?" Yami wrapped his arm around my waist.

"I'm glad we did this today. It felt less like... work and more like a date."

"I'm glad. I love taking you to things like this. We should do it again."

"Mmhmm." I turn and kiss him on the lips gently.

xXx

We stood before the crowd the next morning. I was scared out of my mind. I knew better than to be scared, but I couldn't help it. Yami stood before me giving his speech.

"I want to thank you for coming out of your way to see me here today. I know that there has been many questions on my recent proposal. I am here to answer those questions." He waved me over.

He held my hand at his side. Gasps and mummers erupted from the crowd. I began to grow uneasy about this.

"I'm asking for your permission to marry her." More gasps. "I know that our family, the royal family, never once asked for permission of the people, but today, I'm changing that. From this day forward, I will ask of the people's help on situations. I need your blessings and trust. To be honest, I love my fiancée more than anything I have ever loved before. If I do not receive your blessings, I will be forced into an arranged marriage with someone I do not love, and Yugi, my fiancée, will be cast out of Egypt. Please, allow me your trust, and I promise to make Egypt better for everyone."

In a split second, people began snatching coal rocks from the ground. They drew a symbol on the back of their hands and raised them into the air. Soon, everyone had their hands up with the symbols on their hands.

"That's the eye of Osiris. It means good luck and fortune will prosper. That is why you see it so often in Egypt. They have given us their blessing!" Yami hugged me against him, and kissed me on the lips.

"congratulations, Prince Yami." The head walked towards us. "It looks like you are free to marry when you please."

We looked at each other and smiled. "Tomorrow!" We said together.

Again, sorry about the crabby chapter before. I really hope this one makes up for it.

So, there is officially one left after this. I'm going to cry! I love them together! They are so cute!

Ok, so please R&R and fav/follow! Thanks, and stay safe!
