Glad everyone's so happy after the last chapter! Here's another one. I might not update as much now that school is starting for me, but I promise you I will not abandon this story. I love it too much.
DISCLAIMER: If I owned The Big Bang Theory, I would not be writing fanfiction for it.
Penny's engagement ring was the best piece of jewelry she'd ever received. No, it was the best gift she'd ever gotten, period. In the days following Leonard's proposal, she often caught herself staring at it when they were alone, smiling as she took in the diamond that was now on her finger. How could she ever have not wanted one of these?
After a few days of keeping the news just to themselves and celebrating together (and yes, a lot of we're-getting-married sex was involved) Leonard and Penny decided to tell their friends about what was going on.
"I can't wait to see the looks on their faces," Penny said excitedly as she got out of bed and began to put her clothes back on. (We're-getting-married sex, remember?) "The girls and I had so much fun when Howard and Bernadette got married. We get to look at wedding magazines again and discuss color schemes and browse flowers and signature drinks and bridesmaids dresses...By the way, promise me we won't get married on the roof right?"
Leonard hadn't had the heart to tell her Amy and Bernadette already knew about his proposal. Hopefully they'd act surprised when they told them. "Of course," He said.
"Cause while the wedding was really nice, I don't want our wedding to be so rushed." Penny continued. She smiled as she pulled her top over her head. "Our wedding. I always get so excited when I say that – our wedding, my engagement ring, my fiancé."
Leonard smiled. If he had proposed to Penny a few years ago, or even a few months ago, he knew she wouldn't be as excited as she was now, and she definitely wouldn't have said yes. "I'm glad you're happy, fiancée."
Penny smiled and then threw his pants lightly at his head. "Get dressed, fiancé. I can't wait any longer. I have to tell someone. Now."
Amy sighed loudly as she walked into the apartment and sat down, causing everyone to look up. "I know I'm going to regret asking this," Howard began. "But, what's wrong?"
"Rhesus monkeys with cigarette addictions who may or may not be developing early stage lung cancer," Amy answered, as if it was no big deal and she'd just said she'd gotten stuck in traffic or hadn't slept much last night.
"Yeah, I was right," Howard said. "I wish I hadn't asked."
Amy shrugged, then turned to look at Sheldon, extending her hand towards him. Sheldon sighed, and freed up one of his hands so he could hold it. Howard, Raj and Bernadette gave them the same looks they'd given Amy when she'd talked about her monkeys.
"You two are holding hands now?" Bernadette asked curiously.
"It's part of The New Relationship Agreement," Sheldon answered. "Article III, subsection C. I have to do it."
"On a biweekly basis," Amy added happily. "It's so romantic…"
"This is really sad," Raj said. "Even Sheldon Cooper is getting more action than me now."
"I thought you were dating Howard's sister, Rajesh," Amy said.
"I was," Raj replied. "Until I found out that she was Howard's sister and she'd been playing me the whole time we were together. I think I might have been in love with her, you know? But like every relationship I've ever had, it got screwed up. I'm just going to grow old and die alone, with only my dog for company. And while I love Cinnamon I can't have sex with her. Well I guess I could but…"
"Don't even go there," Howard said. Raj shoved another bite of Chinese food into his mouth, moping.
"That's not true, Raj," Bernadette assured him. "You just haven't met the right girl yet." Raj only continued to sulk.
Amy turned to Sheldon. "Let's try not to rub our happiness in Rajesh's face tonight, okay?"
Sheldon nodded. "Okay," He said. "Does that mean I can let go of your hand now?"
"No."
"Darn."
That was when Leonard and Penny walked in, also holding hands, though they were doing it by choice. Penny had her left hand behind her back so none of them could see the ring. They were greeted with scattered hello's. "Why are the two of you holding hands?" Leonard asked the Shamy.
"It's part of The New Relationship Agreement," Amy replied. "Article III, subsection B."
"Public handholding on a biweekly basis," Sheldon added. "Amy thinks it's romantic but I don't."
Amy shrugged and took a bite of her food. "He'll come around."
"So," Penny said, diverting the conversation back to them. "Leonard and I have something to say." The happy couple exchanged a look and a smile before Penny held her left hand up so they all could see. "We're getting married!"
Howard and Raj were both clearly happily surprised by this announcement, and Sheldon showed as much emotion as he ever did. Amy and Bernadette both pretended to be shocked, even though they definitely weren't.
"That's so great, you guys!" Howard said.
"This is exactly what I need," Raj added enthusiastically. "Wedding planning is a perfect distraction! What should their wedding colors be? Ooh, we should have gold and lime green to bring out Penny's eyes!"
"Oh my God! This is so exciting!" Amy said with what she thought was enthusiasm, when in reality it was just poor acting. "I had no idea, did you Bernadette?" She turned to the other woman, who gave Penny a forced smile, which was a little bit too big to be real.
Penny didn't buy this for a second. "Wait," She said. "Did you guys know about this?"
"What?" Amy said, again not being a good actress, faking a scoff. "Please!" while Bernadette looked down sheepishly and whispered: "…Maybe…"
Penny looked at Leonard, annoyed for spilling the beans. "I wanted their opinion on the ring," He explained. "Though all they did was argue the whole time about classic versus Edwardian…"
Penny rolled her eyes. "You're lucky I love you…"
"So you knew Leonard was going to pop the big question and you didn't tell us?" Raj asked the two women. "Why didn't you call me? I could've totally helped pick out a ring that would accentuate Penny's natural beauty!"
Everyone looked at him. "Yup, you're definitely straight." Howard said sarcastically, before he and the rest of the gang seated around the couch went back to their food.
"Metrosexual," Raj said, while Leonard and Penny sat down and picked up some take out containers.
"What am I supposed to do when you get married?" Sheldon asked.
"What do you mean, sweetie?" Penny replied.
"Well, the social convention is for you and Leonard to move in together once you are married," Sheldon explained. "Where are you going to live? Here? Penny's apartment? And what will I do? Live alone? Who will drive me to work? Who will buy me Chinese food?"
Leonard and Penny considered this. They hadn't discussed their living situations yet. "Well, Penny and I can move into her apartment so we don't have to uproot you," Leonard said. "And we'll still drive you to work and buy you dinner. Nothing will change except I'll be across the hall."
Sheldon sighed. "I haven't been without a roommate in years…"
"I could move in with you," Amy suggested eagerly. "Or you could come live with me."
"I'm already holding your hand," Sheldon replied. "Don't push it."
The gang ate in silence for a few minutes, before Sheldon broke it. "Penny," He said. "Can you pass the hot mustard?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I can't." Penny said. "I can barely lift my hand. It's just so heavy with the weight of my engagement ring!" She held up her hand, and some of the gang smiled at her excitement, while Sheldon didn't understand that she wasn't serious.
"That's not possible." Sheldon replied. "That ring is what – one, one and half carats? It couldn't possibly weigh enough to make any difference in your hands mobility. You held it up just now."
Penny rolled her eyes and handed him the hot mustard. "Oh Sheldon, sweetie, you are also lucky I love you."
I didn't read this over so it is probably riddled with errors. I'm guessing I'm also lucky you love me, right?
