A/N: Idk just read =P
Dean POV
We reach the bunker just as the first tendrils of black smoke become visible. I watch, transfixed, as they twist their way across the sky, tainting it. Sam pushes me across the threshold, slamming the door shut behind us.
"What the hell? Did they forget their meatsuits or something?" I shout to Adriella as Sam and I race for the guns we'd left on the table, quickly slinging the extra firearms and ammo across our chests.
"Uh Dean?" Sam asks, his eyes roaming the room, confused. "Did you move stuff around in here? What are all those..." He points to the array of pots and urns that line the walls of the bunker.
"Did some redecorating while you were still packing Sam, don't worry about it," I respond, turning back to Adriella. "Anyway, you wanna explain the shortage of real, flesh-like opponents please? How do we kill smoke?"
"Many came in their natural form," Adriella answers as she strides briskly towards a seemingly relaxed Crowley. She holds out her hand impatiently, waiting for Crowley to hold out his own before she brushes her fingers along his handcuffs. They fall to the floor with a resounding clink, my stomach dropping in sync with the chains. "It is more difficult for you to kill them that way," the angel continues, "but they are still affected by rocksalt, holy water, and if you get close enough, an angel blade. I imagine many will be in human form as well. We will just have to wait and s..."
Adriella's explanation is interrupted by the thud of something solid against the front door. The four of us freeze, eyes on the door. And it comes again. A steady thump that echoes along the walls. And suddenly it's not just at the door.
Thump.
Thumpthumpthumpthump.
I spin instinctively, trying to find the source, but it's coming from every direction now, a constant hollow pounding. The demons are surrounding us, no doubt trying to find a way past the warding. I close my eyes, exhaling nice and slow. This is it.
"You ready Sammy?" I ask, flashing him what I hope is a cocky grin. He whips his gaze away from the urns he had still been examining and stares at me, a bewildered chuckle rumbling out from somewhere deep in his throat.
"As I'll ever be," he replies. I drink in the smile he gives me in return, praying it's not the last time I'll ever see it. I'm noot sure who exactly I'm praying to anymore, but it can't hurt. I squeeze his shoulder hard, just once.
Thumpthumpthump.
"You should really answer that," Crowley snorts, "my soldiers aren't the most patient bunch."
Ignoring him, I ease towards the door, running my hand along the handle of the angel blade strapped at my waist, reassuring myself of its presence. The dull thudding has picked up a rapid tempo now as the demons try to force their way in.
So I let them in instead.
I'd expected at least half a second to raise my gun...or any weapon really, but I'm not even given that much time before something solid and black slams into my chest, flinging me backwards. I skitter across the floor, bringing my gun up and firing, hitting the mass of black smoke dead center. The smoke seems to collapse into itself, letting out an inhuman shriek as it condenses, temporarily crippled. I push to my feet, taking in the chaos that has suddenly unraveled before me.
Black globs of demon smoke seep into every corner of the batcave, writhing along the walls as if trying to find purchase. They collide with one another in the air and all along the floor, the walls; demon against demon. Their savage screams permeate the air as they rip each other to pieces before my eyes, their roiling masses burning away to ash and cascading to the floor like waterfalls enveloped in dust. There are others who've come in vessels just as Adriella predicted. They pour in through the open door, a never-ending sea of poor possessed bastards who won't make it out alive. But I can't let myself think about that right now.
I search for Sam, catching sight of him on the far side of the hall towards our bedrooms just as he buries Ruby's knife into a demon's chest, immediately twisting to aim his gun at another one as it attempts to stalk towards him. I fight my way through a few more demons before I finally reach him, nudging his shoulder to let him know I'm there.
"Sam, we gotta get 'em to the garage," I yell above the brutal sounds of war, wincing as one demon tackles another into the door of my bedroom, splintering the wood as they collapse on top of it.
"Why the garage?" he yells back, ducking instinctively when I nod once and swing my shotgun to the place his head had just been, firing at an oncoming demon. He pulls me with him a second later and I hear the faint whistle of a knife as it whirls past my cheek, missing by inches. I lunge when I find the source of the knife, digging the angel blade deep into the demon's stomach.
"That's where all the charges are," I reply, pushing him away from me as a plume of black smoke fills the space where'd he'd just been standing. He fires before I can, hitting his mark.
"WHAT?" he screams, dodging yet another attack. We're several hundred feet away from each other now, shouting across the space between us. "Dean you were supposed to put the explosives everywhere. That was the whole fucking point. Everything has to go. What were you..."
"Thinking?" I cut in, shaking my head and firing at another blob of black smoke. "I was thinking maybe we don't have to die today. We just gotta force everyone...everything to the garage. Trust me Sam, I got a plan." I wink and Sam groans, twisting further away from me to slice his knife across another demon's throat.
"ADRIELLA, NOW!" I shout, knowing she'll hear me if she's not dead yet. If she is...well then we're screwed. A few moments later and I know she's alive.
"Dean...what the hell?" Sam stares in confusion as one by one, the pots and urns along the wall begin to tip over, spilling their contents. "Is that.."
"Holy water, Sam," I nod, watching as it flows steadily towards two demons struggling together on the floor. They scream as the water touches their skin, writhing and twitching on the ground as they both battle to regain their feet. One by one the demons begin to shriek in agony as the water reaches them, stumbling clumsily towards the far wall.
I sigh in relief as the holy water finally splashes past our feet. The demons that had been surrounding us are now sprinting for the only place left for them to go...the stairs that lead to the garage.
"You cornered them," Sam laughs, just one short huff of dumbfounded relief. And then the laugh is suddenly cut short. Sam's eyes widen in horror. The world seems to slow down for one infinitesimal moment. I watch him sprint towards me, his expression making it clear that he won't be able to save me from whatever's coming. I spin away from him, searching for the threat, my breath leaving me in one solid gust as Abaddon's blood-red smile fills my vision.
I'm leaving town for a little while and with the holidays coming up, I'm not sure when I'll be able to post next. However, if you guys leave a quick review and tell me you want the next chapter, I can maybe have it posted by tomorrow. No promises, but I'll do my best to get it up before about a week and a half with no updates. Either way, thank you so much for reading and happy holidays!
