Author's Note: Hey there! Hopefully no one is too mad at me for being on hiatus for so long. I had a lot to deal with and I totally forgot about this story. Thank you Zayide for the review that brought me back, and thank you so much to everyone else who reviewed previously. I'll try to update regularly from now on.
To Sarah's surprise, Jareth didn't push her away. Instead, the king deepened the kiss and Sarah found her back against the wall. His lips practically ravished hers, and Sarah knew they would be swollen. Her hands tangled in the wisps of his hair, and he bit down gently on her bottom lip. Sarah moaned into his mouth, and the king smiled against her lips. Sarah was getting dizzy. It was quite possibly from oxygen deprivation. She hesitantly put a hand against his chest and pushed him back slightly. Her eyes found his again. This time, they were practically burning with lust and desire. Sarah couldn't help but to shiver at the sudden change.
Sarah was practically panting, and Jareth gave her an amused smile.
"Had enough?" He asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Sarah didn't respond. Instead she closed her eyes and savored the feeling of his body pushed against hers. She could feel the heat radiating from him. Sarah expected him to move away from her, but he didn't. He seemed to be studying her rather intently. She could feel her cheeks turning red under his scrutinizing gaze.
"I'm sorry." Sarah said, although she clearly didn't mean it.
"I'm not." Jareth said simply.
Sarah couldn't help but to chuckle. After a few moments, Jareth took a step back. Although he was no longer pinning her in place, he hovered just a foot away.
"I don't think I'll ever understand you." He said, as Sarah opened and closed her eyes again.
Sarah chuckled again. "Well, that makes two of us."
Jareth's gaze scanned up and down her body. It wasn't in the predatory way she was expecting. He just seemed to be assessing her.
"You must be tired."
Sarah nodded, although she really didn't want to sleep. The only thing she wanted was answers.
"You told me you'd tell me about before." Sarah protested weakly.
"I will," Jareth said. "but for now you must rest."
Sarah nodded, not having the energy to argue. With a flick of his wrist they were whisked away into a completely different room. Sarah nearly was knocked off her feet at the surprise.
"You just can't do that!" Sarah said, clutching her stomach.
Jareth's arms were wrapped around her in an instant.
"I apologize. I forgot that you're not…" His voice trailed off and he helped her to the bed in the room. Sarah sat down on the bed and eventually she was able to get her bearings.
Jareth's features were laced with concern.
"Sorry," Sarah said quietly, "I'm fine."
Jareth's features flooded with relief. "I forgot how… sensitive humans were."
Sarah shook her head and chuckled.
"Well, I shall leave you to rest." Jareth said as he turned to leave. "Sweet dreams."
He was gone, and Sarah wished she would've asked him to stay. It would have been slightly inappropriate, but she didn't think she would be able to sleep without having some answers. She let out a frustrated sigh and fell back on the bed. Her eyes scanned the dimly lit room. It was decorated in hues of gold and crimson. She was admiring a certain tapestry when her eyes fluttered shut and sleep overcame her.
When she woke up, Sarah panicked. She momentarily forgot where she was. Once she realize, she calmed herself and slipped out of the bed. The room was brighter than it had been before, so Sarah assumed in was morning or close to it. There was a knock on the door, and Sarah jumped. She scolded herself for being so jumpy. She opened the wooden door slightly to see a rather small creature staring up at her.
"Evenin' Lady," the creature greeted. Sarah smiled down at it.
It handed her a bundle of cloth. "Kingy sent me here to give you this."
Sarah took the cloth gently, and realized it was a dress. The green fabric was soft against her fingertips. Almost like a mix of silk and velvet.
"Thank you," Sarah said. The creature, Sarah assumed was a goblin, disappeared down the corridor.
The girl contemplated the dress for a few moments before shrugging off her clothes and letting it slip over her head. She was surprised that such light cloth could be so warm. The green cloth hugged her body just the right way. It fit snugly were it was supposed to, and was loose were it needed to be. The bodice was embroidered with gold thread, and it seemed to turn firmer than it had been when she held the flimsy cloth in her hand. Sarah ran her hands down the front of the dress to smooth it out. She looked around the room quickly, and found a wash basin and a mirror sitting in the corner.
Sarah went over to the basin and was surprised that it was filled with warm water. Sarah scrubbed her face gently with a cloth lying beside the basin, and then she went to work with her hair. She braided it quickly and draped it over her shoulder. After a quick look in the mirror to be sure she was decent looking, she headed toward the corridor. Sara had a certain Goblin King to talk to.
