Part 3 of He is the Father
Rose was dreading walking out there. It was inevitable that the daleks would win. Leaving John alone without a father or a mother was not her intention. The Doctor opened the door and confronted the daleks. He held Rose close by, but as Donna was leaving the door shut on her. Furious, the Doctor pound on the door, then he rounded on the Daleks.
"Let her out! Let her out now!"
They ignored his wish and had the TARDIS dropped into the heart of the ship. He was heartbroken, the Doctor. They were lead to a consol room. Flipping on the light caused something lurking in the corner to be brought to light. It was an old, old, ugly thing that used wheels to move, and labored breathing. The Doctor stepped back in shock, and breathed out,
"How?"
"Doctor… We meet once more, its been far too long."
"You were thrown into the time vortex along with all the other daleks."
"Dalek Kaan flew into the vortex sacrificing his sanity."
The decrepit old man pointed towards the giggling Dalek in the corner. In disgust the man turned back. At that moment Mickey, Jackie, Martha, and Jack Harkness came through one of the side doors. Team TARDIS was back at it again. They didn't know that a very young man came in behind them. He was only in grade school, and he did what any young boy would do. He went to his mother.
"Oh John, what are you doing here?"
The Doctor was talking to Davros when he saw Rose holding a boy of no more than two years old. Two years, that was the last time he saw the woman and would always love. She must have moved on, or Mickey got the girl. Both his hearts clenched. Rose could see everyone but Mickey and her mother was staring at her son.
"Wanted to make sure you were okay mother."
Jack choked a little in the corner. Rose had a son who looked oddly like The Doctor. Or not so unlikely.
"What's your name kid?"
"John Tyler. You're Jack Harkness."
The boy in Rose's arms pointed at each of them and then finally at the Doctor.
"…And you're D- The Doctor."
"Hello John Tyler."
The Doctor looked up at Rose. Something was going on with John.
"As touching as this moment is, we must let the Daleks get to destroying your world."
"Welllll…"
A creaking door opened revealing a second Doctor. And so did Donna.
"I dahn't think it'll happen personally."
Davros flipped another switch and the second Doctor was trapped in the beams like the rest of the crew. Donna went straight to the console.
"Donna leave, take the TARDIS and go while you're still free."
John wiggled out of his mothers arm and left the beam to go over to the tall flaming redhead.
"Can I help?"
"Why not? Doctor I know how you feel now, having all this knowledge."
As she was talking she looked down at the console.
"See the thing is I've got these fast fingers."
She flipped the switch and the beam let loose their prisoners. Doctor and Doctor Two ran to the console straightening up everything and preventing the Dalek fleet from doing too much damage down on earth. Rose ran straight to her son and smothered him in kisses.
"Don't you ever do that to me again. Do you hear me?"
"Yes mum," he said in a clearly patronizing tone.
"Alright everyone in the TARDIS . Hop to it."
John held onto his mother's hand and led her into somewhere that he could have no knowledge of and yet it was almost like home to him. His mom plopped him down on a side seat. Rose plopped him down on a side seat. He squirmed until his mother fixed him with a look. The two Doctors and Donna managed to get them off the Dalek ship before it got blown up.
Harkness was dropped off first and he gave them each a hug before leaving for Torchwood. Mickey and Martha decided to go get a pizza together and then it was time for Rose to leave. On the beach in the alternate world she stood between two copies of the man. The father of her child on one and a virtual stranger. The original Doctor said,
"You've had a great life Rose Tyler. You've got a baby and everything. If I may ask who is the father?"
"…"
She hesitated. Who knew what he would do to keep her together with him.
"OH JUST TELL HIM ROSE SWEETHEART!"
Jackie was shushed and the Doctor looked at Rose.
"Rose, tell me what?"
"When I said Mum was pregnant the last time we met, I lied."
"You lied why?"
"Well father it is a bit obvious," Little John piped up from his mothers arms.
"You are the father of John. It was me that was pregnant. Not my mum."
His mouth dropped open slightly before closing it and getting closer to Rose. He cautiously motioned for Rose to hand him John.
"Hello John."
"Hello father. There's a bit of a problem here. The two of you can't exist in the same world for long."
Before Rose could say anything more the two Doctor's looked at each other. She looked between them and asked, "That day on the beach you were about to say something. What was it?"
"Does it really need to be said?"
"Yes it does."
She looked to the human Doctor and he whispered his answer into his ear. Rose quickly put her son down and kissed her love as passionately as she could manage. John made a face up at the man who looked like his father. But was not technically him. John looked at his father and then back to his mother who was kissing a man.
"Dad? Where are you going to go?"
"Exploring the universe son. Tell you what, I'll come and bring you something from the places I visit shall I?"
John's face lit up. And before he could regret getting too attached kissed his sons forehead and hugged him fast before getting into the TARDIS. The Doctor had only one memory of his last son and would not gain anymore. He left quickly and silently. Meanwhile Rose let go of John Smith and then looked at her son.
"Well John it's just you mean and your father now."
But John was sad. Intellectually he knew that John Smith was no different from his father, but he still wanted to have a father who knew all about Time Lords and what they were going through.
"John? Are you okay?"
"No not really. Can we go home mummy?"
"Yeah. John?"
"Yes Rose?"
"Let's go home."
"Let's."
Holding her hand together the Tyler family went home. And all was well.
