Chapter 8:

Fear and worry was written across Callie's face as Bailey and three nurses ran into the room and began assessing the unconscious blonde on the floor.

"Is she okay, Bailey" Callie asked. "Her labs came back" "Did you see them?" "Is it the infection?" Callie asked all of these questions in one breath worriedly.

"Suzie, can you take Dr. Torres out to the hall way, please?" Bailey asked the young nurse.

"What!?" Callie screeched. "I'm not going anywhere".

"DR. Torres…" Bailey started, "go outside and sit in the waiting room like any other loved one, right NOW!" Bailey spoke in a way that made Callie and the nurses jump a little. But Callie didn't want to leave Arizona by herself. The last time she left the blonde's side, she found the peds surgeon on the ground unconscious. Looking at Bailey's eyes, Callie knew that she wasn't going to win and she felt a little betrayed that her friend was kicking her out in such a situation. Giving the general surgeon a hard but tearful stare, Torres turned and stomped out of the bathroom and sat in the chair in Arizona's room. She watched as the people worked around the blonde trying to fix whatever is wrong.

The next thing Callie knows, Arizona was on a gurney.

"I'm taking her to an OR. There seems to be an abdominal internal bleed which would explain the infection" Bailey explained as she and two nurses pushed the gurney down the hall.

Callie began to follow but was stopped before they reached the double door that leads to all of the ORs.

"Callie, you can't go in there" Bailey started

"Please, Miranda…" the brunette begged, "I can't lose her. I just got her back" Callie said with tears in her eyes.

Miranda Bailey's eyes softened a little, "you can see her for a minute before we take her in" she offered.

Callie pushed past the surgeon and stood next to the blonde's bed. She stroked the blonde hairs of the love of her life before she leaned down and dropped a long tearful kiss on Arizona's forehead. She got closer and whispered, "I love you and you love me. We're going to get through this. You just have to get better first. Don't take too long of a nap, okay? I love you"

The ortho surgeon gently kissed Arizona on the lips one last time before her surgery. She stood up quickly and wiped her tears as she watched the hallway empty as the staff entered the OR to start the procedure.

She went and sat in the waiting room for the families of surgical patients and all she could think of is how much she doesn't want to lose her love.

It's been a little over three hours before Bailey walked out of the OR to see Callie Torres walking a hole through the hospital floor. The young brunette looked more than a little distressed and Bailey was glade the worrying would soon be over. The general surgeon walked near the pacing brunette and cleared her voice. Callie's head turn to look Bailey in the eye.

"Is she okay? How did it go?"

"There was an infection caused by some internal bleeding that she didn't notice the first time we went in. she's going to need to stay in the hospital for at least two weeks because the infection harmed her intestines and her kidneys. She's also going to be on dialysis for a day or two depending on how well she responds to the medicine."

"B-but she's going to be okay, right? I mean, she's going to need dialysis and antibiotics for a few day, but that's it right?"

Bailey could see that Torres was trying to stop herself from crying, but the worry has consumed the woman.

"Yes. She'll be fine"

Callie smiled for the first time since she found Arizona and she took a step forward and hugged the soul right out of the shorter woman.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you" Callie whispered.
