heya people!

"You'd think she would understand by now, he's cheated on her like three times!" Caroline huffed, watching the girl from biology sit on her on-and-off-boyfriend's lap. Stefan was sitting in front of her, smiling broadly, making her smile as well. There was something in his smile, something that made Caroline feel as though light was filling every nerve, every cell in her being. She felt that even if she was on her lowest, even if she would ever go to the point where suicide might look inviting, that smile of Stefan's would bring her back. Would keep her grounded, happy.

"You know what, maybe I should go and tell her exactly what I think of their relationship," Caroline pondered, her eyes lighting up with excitement. "No, no, let her make her own choices," Stefan said, shaking his head. "I can't just let her make her own choices when I know how stupid they are," Caroline said annoyed, earning an eye roll from Stefan. "We all make bad decisions that we learn from," Stefan wisely stated. "Yeah, well, she's made the mistake three times already. Shouldn't she have learned by now, maybe?" Caroline questioned, her eyes drifting back to the couple that were now making out.

"Ugh," Caroline remarked, looking away. She didn't like the way that boy treated his girlfriend, or the way the girl let him treat her. Stefan, on the other hand, was finding it all highly amusing. "You're adorable when you get all worked up on other people's business," he chuckled, a twinkle in his eyes. Caroline let his words sink in for a second, feeling the satisfaction course through her.

To say that her and Stefan were starting to get to know each other would be a slight understatement. Over the course of the two weeks that'd passed since the dinner fiasco at Elena's, Caroline and Stefan had become somewhat of bestfriends. At first, Caroline wasn't sure how to make the moves, how to approach Stefan and deepen their friendship. But every sense of doubt and insecurity had vanished into thin air when Stefan had made the first move, had approached her every chance he got.

Caroline didn't even have to try, she barely made the most effort. It seemed Stefan really wanted to know her, to be her friend. They had every class together so they spent every waking minute at school together, they texted each other, they phoned each other and talked about everything and anything, Stefan even stopped by at her place every now and then. Somehow, their friendship had become so much more than what it had been. They were together all the time.

At one point, Bonnie had drawn her to the side and expressed her slight concerns about how Stefan and Caroline's relationship had developed, and how fast they were growing close. Apparently, Elena had been worried and talked to Bonnie about Stefan not returning her calls as much anymore or how their conversations somehow always consisted of Caroline. She'd noticed how close Caroline and Stefan had gotten and felt threatened by Caroline.

It did make sense to Caroline, to be honest, because there had been a change in Elena's behaviour. She wasn't as happy and genuine towards Caroline anymore. She was cold and distant, and whenever she could, she would snatch Stefan away for a snog or just drag him off without any excuse. Stefan had gotten slight annoyed by that and had actually told Elena no when she'd spotted him by Caroline's locker and tried to drag him away for no apparent reason. Caroline knew she shouldn't have been happy about the way Elena's eyebrows had spiralled upwards before she'd stormed off.

Stefan had been slightly disturbed by the fact, but he'd brushed it off for Caroline's sake, Caroline knew. However, Caroline didn't want Stefan to be upset because of her so she'd told him to go after Elena. Unfortunately, that hadn't helped much. Elena was getting more and more persistent when it came to keeping Stefan away from Caroline. Her attitude towards Caroline was changing by the day and Caroline wasn't sure she could continue putting up a bright face for Stefan's sake anymore, when all she wanted was to slap some sense into Elena.

Sure, Caroline loved Stefan and wanted to be with him. But she would never do anything while Stefan was still dating Elena. She wasn't that girl anymore, but that was all Elena seemed to think of her. Stefan wasn't bothered by Elena's continously jealous behaviour, though, considering he still spent a lot of time with Caroline and was genuinly interested in her. Sometimes Caroline even saw him regarding her with a look that was a bit more than friendly, but she never looked as much into it as she would've liked to admit. Their friendship was more than enough for her at the moment.

Besides, Stefan still loved Elena because he hadn't broken up with her or anything. He just didn't spend all his time on doing what Elena wanted. That was a rather good thing considering all Elena wanted was to keep him away from Caroline, and Caroline needed Stefan for more than one reason. Damon hadn't left or anything. He was still probably lurking around somewhere, looking for an opportunity, but Caroline didn't have to worry with Stefan by her side most of the time. In fact, she hadn't laid eyes on Damon since the dinner at Elena's, which was a blessing from the heavens.

Caroline wanted nothing to do with Damon, she'd much rather he keep his distance and bother someone else. Stefan was with her, Stefan liked being with her and that was all that really mattered to Caroline.

She looked at Stefan, smiling, her eyes wandering over his face. "Yeah, well, I like to think it's because everyone deserves happiness and I want to give it to them," Caroline said, looking out on the pitch. Stefan sighed beside her, shaking his head slightly, that smile still on his face. Caroline enjoyed their little getaways to the soccer fields. Stefan would just say "soccer" the moment class ended and Caroline would already be on her way. What made it all the more enjoyable was the fact that Elena didn't have chemistry with them so she had no time to come and drag Stefan away.

The buzzing of Stefan's phone caught her attention as he picked it up. He seemed to sigh slightly, considering this was the third time it'd been buzzing. "Stefan, just pick up, I don't mind," Caroline said as Stefan gave her a slightly guilty look. Stefan didn't want to be rude and talk on the phone when he was enjoying his time with Caroline, he'd said every time Elena had called and he'd ignored his phone. But Caroline knew he wasn't very keen on ignoring Elena all the time so she would rather have him talk to her than have Stefan feeling guilty while being with Caroline.

Stefan gave her a genuine smile before putting the phone to his ear. "Yeah, Elena," he spoke, still looking at Caroline. Caroline looked away, over to the boys and girls all around. Some of the girls from the cheer squad were practicing their dance number and Caroline focused solely on them, watching them laugh together as they jumped and swirled and picked each other up. She ignored Stefan telling Elena where he was at, though she could hear slight reluctance in his voice, which made her smile broader.

"What are you smiling about, hm?" Stefan asked as Caroline looked at him, watching that soft look on his face. Caroline had noticed how he always had hat look when she was smiling. "Nothing, I'm just watching my girls work for our routine," Caroline replied quickly, looking back at the girls who were trying the pyramid now. Caroline smiled to herself as she looked around, thinking about Elena running around, trying to find Stefan. Unfortunately, what Caroline had thought to be her imagination was reality, because Elena was running towards where Caroline and Stefan where sitting. Caroline's smile slowly vanished as she quickly looked away, back to the girls.

Suddenly, one of the girls, the one on top, screamed a bit too loud and Caroline watched as the girls toppled over and fell to the ground. Both Caroline and Stefan quickly got up, making their way towards them. The girls were on the ground, huddling around one of them holding her. She'd scraped her knee pretty bad considering it had started to bleed. Caroline winced slightly at the sight of the wound and was about to bend down and help, when she suddenly noticed Stefan's tense posture. His jaw was clenched, his eyes dark, and Caroline suddenly realized that Stefan needed to get away quickly. He was on a strict animal blood diet and human blood would make him lose his control.

"Stefan-" Caroline spoke, about to push him away from the girl, but before she could do anything, Elena had reached them and grabbed Stefan's arm.

"You need to get out of here, come on!" Elena said urgently, dragging him along with her, speaking rapidly, her face concerned. It took a second before it dawned on Caroline; Elena knew about vampires. The phone call from Bonnie earlier that week started to make sense suddenly. Bonnie had told Caroline that she was worried about Elena, who'd been paranoid and kept saying Stefan was hiding things from her all the time. But then, it had all stopped and Elena had been back to normal. Caroline remembered Elena not coming to school for two days and she understood now that Elena had probably been processing the new revelations.

Caroline didn't know how to feel about the fact that Stefan had told Elena about being a vampire, but not Caroline. Sure, he was in love with Elena and she was his girlfriend, but Caroline had basically known him as long as Elena had. They were good friends now, so why wouldn't he tell her as well?

It hurt a little to know that Stefan probably didn't trust her as much as she trusted him. But she didn't want that to ruin her mood. She was glad Stefan had told Elena and she was glad that Elena was currently helping him get over his urges. As long as Stefan was okay, it didn't matter who was helping him, though Caroline really wanted to be the one helping him through difficulties.

Caroline let out a sigh before walking over to check whether the girl was okay, hoping to see Stefan in class. It was the last lesson before the weekend would officially begin and Caroline was looking forward to just sleep in and maybe do something with Stefan again. Stefan didn't show up for class, though. Caroline understood he probably needed some time to calm down again, but she was hoping to check up on him as well. The lesson went painfully slow before the bell finally rang and Caroline left the school, knowing there was no point in waiting for Stefan to show up.
