Chapter 21: Ramses Seth vs The World
A/N: Let's take a break from all of those training spiels and do something with both Emiline and Ramses in a non shipping manner.
A/N 2:Any actual names or likeness of Magi characters are used in a poorly fictitious and parodic manner
Emiline's Point of View
Oh my, goodness... I feel like I just had a hangover. Well, I really don't know where I am. I think I found myself in the middle of a highway while heavily raining outside, but for some reason, I couldn't move my limbs. I couldn't move my head, but I can only watch the wet road splashed by heavy rain.
All of a sudden, I was picked up by a mad scientist that seemed to look like... Sinbad?
He quickly ran with my immobile body to his Frankenstein-esque castle and put me on a medical table in a weird room. He grabbed what looked like a robot arm and used a power drill to keep it bonded to my stubbed right arm. I couldn't feel it, but the only thing I feel is discomfort and confusion. Why the hell is Sinbad a mad scientist all of a sudden? After a few nuts and bolts mended into my body, I closed my eyes again and opened them, hoping that this was a dream. My right eye suddenly turned red and for some reason, my left working eye shot out a red laser. I sat up and looked around the weird lab. Stone walls, power tools, and a bunch of other science-y stuff was scattered around.
I basically looked fine, except I have a mechanical right eye, a robotic right arm, and a metallic left leg. Good thing I was clothed; I'm still in my Magnostadt Academy attire. I tried to cry out for help, but I realized that I couldn't move or feel my mouth.
"It's Alive!" shouted the mad Sinbad.
Before I could move, he grabbed me by the neck and threw me into what looked like an electric chair. My wrists were strapped to the rests and my whole body was held to the chair with belts. He pulled in two pincer claws to my face to keep my eyes open. Panicking at this moment, the only thing I could do right now was just look around with my left eye and struggle to escape.
Sinbad backed away from me and cackled loudly and grabbed a white remote. The stone wall opened up, revealing a plethora of small televisions. Geez, he's really primitive...
With a click of the button, various TV shows came out, with a lone one in the middle turned off. Suddenly, the lone TV fritzed and flashed white.
"Holy Shit!" I shouted as I woke up from that strange dream.
I was on a bed in an isolated room. I looked around me and saw that I was in some sort of old cheap house in the middle of the Oasis. The sun shining down on the window was quite radiant, but when I took away my blanket, I was relieved to find out I'm still in my Magnostadt Academy clothing... and with my undergarments still intact. My bag of gold is still in the corner, but then I saw another bag with it. My staff was leaning on the corner of the small room. I can't use magic without my staff, so I simply walked to it and grabbed the staff.
Walking outside, I realized that I was in some sort of Arabian village. This reminds me of Agrabah from the Aladdin film by Disney, though there wasn't a large ass palace standing over the villages, though there was a higher level over the village with a few buildings. After my brief scan, I heard a familiar friend's voice.
"Emiline, you're awake!" I turned to my right and saw the Egyptian/Heliohaptan, Ramses. Right now, he wore a similar robe to what Sharrkan wears.
"Ramses! How did you find me? Where's Amihiha, Amelia, and Franklin?" I asked, concerned for their well-being.
Ramses shook his head, probably to the last question.
"I found you laying down on the sands near Qishan thanks to Lykos's help," he patted the hilt of his sword,"Franklin, Amelia, and Amihiha? I'm not so sure about their true whereabouts, but I hope they're fine."
I rummaged in one of my pockets and found the Eye of the Rukh that Yamuraiha gave me prior to my journey to Goap. She told us to call her in case we were adrift at sea. I'm not so sure if I should call her right now, but all I know is that we have to do something now. We currently have a large sum of money with the treasures we earned at the dungeon.
"Oh hey, Ramses," a lady said running to him from behind.
He turned and looked at the lady. The girl had long dirty blonde hair and wore a dark green dress. She stood beside Ramses, causing a shade of pink to appear on his face. This lady looked older than him by a bit, but Ramses was taller.
"Hey Leila, how are sales going?" he said with a smile.
She giggled and leaned in closer to the Heliohaptan, causing the shade of pink to deepen.
"Soon, I'll have more money than you made in that Dungeon..." she said with flirty voice, much to my confusion. I tilted my head, wondering if they're in a relationship.
"Emiline, this is Leila, a merchant that travels around in the oasis. I've been helping her for a week."
"He also saved me when I accidentally got knocked off of a cart," she said with a smile. She looked at me with an inquisitive stare and whispered to me in a hushed voice,"Are you sure you really are a Magi?"
A series of Rukh started to perch on me as if I had bread to feed them. Ramses smiled casually, while Leila had a surprised look. Guess the Rukh and my nod answered it. At least she didn't ask me about my stitches, which somehow disappeared when I healed Amihiha. I still wonder who this Anima is. Perhaps it has a relation to animation, as in to animate life. Life... I have a feeling I'm not an ordinary Magi.
"Even if I am a Magi, I'm still a human being like you guys," I commented.
*rumble*
The thing that makes me so unladylike are rude interruptions, like stomach rumbles or farts. Ever since that journey in Goap, I relied on snacks.
"Wait! Before we go out to eat, I need to do something,"
I quickly ran to the large bags of treasure and tapped them with my staff. I placed little orbs inside the bag held by Strength Magic, holding light inside. I'd rather not hold it for my whole journey. But going back to the topic, if someone steals it, then I command the Strength magic to release the light within, shooting light out to the sky.
With the door closing, I rendezvoused with Leila and Ramses and we both set out to the bazaar.
The bazaar was lively and full of food and Ramses, through his earnings from selling his treasures, paid for most of our food. After that, Leila heard her friend, Sahsa call for her and she went to her, leaving me and Ramses. Ramses seemed to be a bit more... fidgety.
"Hey Em?" he asked as he fidgeted,"Have you dated anyone before?"
I widened my eyes from his question. A crimson shade suddenly appeared on my face and I looked away from him out of embarrassment. I've had a bunch of people ask me out, but I turned them down, only assuming they just wanted to date me because they want the world to know that they dated the MVP of Track, gaining fame throughout the school.
"W-w-why do you ask?" I said as I only showed her the left side of my face.
With an awkward laugh and a head scratch, he answered:"I think Leila really likes me."
The mental image of Leila hugging his arm appeared again. This time, it transformed into a... much more twisted (but thankfully, censored) image involving steaminess and moans.
I grumbled in shame for actually trying out those Mai-Otome eroges. They gave me such dirty thoughts of what Ramses was about to do. I think Ramses, though usually calm and collected, was shivering in concern for my current grumbling state.
"Em?" he asked me in a fearful voice.
With a deep breath, I quickly turned and put up a toothy grin. It wasn't those creepy ones, but it was those kinds of smiles that hotblooded anime guys always do.
"Well, do you like her too?"
"Mutually?" his face turned red.
I was already by his shoulder, much to his surprise.
"How did you get there so fast? You were there a few seconds ago, standing!"
I playfully bonked his head with my staff and continued.
"Light Magic, my friend. Also, judging by your blush from when you answered my question may hint that you may have feelings for her,"
"I do?"
With a quick slap, he rubbed the wound as it stung.
"What's with the question mark at the end? Are your feelings in a jumble!?"
He scratched his head nervously.
"Well.. yes, because I still have to save the world from Al-Thamen, and bring you guys back to your world," he put a fist on his open palm,"I can't let petty activities such as falling in love bar my progress. I'm just stay"
I sighed and crossed my arms. I was miffed, shown through my slanted eyebrows and puffed up cheeks. Ramses's mature face showed some fear with a furrowed brow. Judging by his more calculating attributes, I'm pretty sure he might be awaiting Frank's return or thinking of a way to find about Franklin's whereabouts.
"Well, as long as the world isn't being threatened at the moment right now, just have some fun..." with a sigh, I continued,"You're no fun, Ramses."
He sighed in defeat. He seemed to tolerate some of my words, possibly because he's heard that... A LOT.
"Fine... I guess I'll-"
I already knew what he was going to say. I quickly hopped to where he faced forward and clapped my hands. With a giddy giggle, I hopped in small steps. It's time to put those fantasy romance novels into work.
"Okay... here's how it goes..."
Further into the bazaar.
Emiline went to the barber and attempted to get Ramses to change his hairstyle. Much to his horror, he decided against it. Though Emiline could use magic, the teen fought back by... well flying away really fast on Lykos. The Magi of Life shrugged, but still chased him to tell him about her next plan.
Clothing was tolerable for this not-so-fashionable man. While there weren't jeans (much to her chagrin) she managed to find a suitable attire fitting for both of their needs, though time was largely consumed. Ramses now donned a white sleeveless shirt with a pair of white baggy pants. He kept his sandals on though. A large white sash wrapped around his body, resting on his right shoulder.
Next, Emiline and Ramses flew on the magic carpet, finding a suitable date place around Qishan. Another slap wound was on his face after suggesting to go to the brothel. Ramses may be a genius in Royal Education, but he's no master in the arts of romance.
Hours past and the two were exhausted after Emiline did a little class for Ramses to be educated in the arts of romance.
"...And always remember the core part of being in a date: always be yourself." she muttered before sinking into sleep.
Ramses bought another bed using his expenses earned from selling his treasures. He felt slightly nervous and hoped that this day will go by well. Ramses remembered the time when he dropped her off at Qishan.
"Thanks, Rams," she said playfully.
"It's a pleasure, Lay Lay, just wear a seatbelt to keep yourself safe in the caravan next time,"
She angrily slapped him from reminding her of her flunk.
"What in Solomon's name is a seatbelt?!"
Maybe he shouldn't talk about the objects exclusive to Franklin and Emiline's world. She crossed her arms and turned away, hiding an embarrassed blush.
"But... um... thanks for helping me, I-I would have died back there if it weren't for you and your wolf,"
Now that he was here, he wondered what he was going to do. His other friends weren't around, and Emiline is still knocked out. He tried countless times, but she never awoke. Her Magoi was still intact, meaning she's fine. According to Leila, she's a travelling merchant and he wasn't the best at getting people to buy his wares, so he saw something he could do.
"Hey Leila, mind if I help you in business?"
Tomorrow. Ramses's View.
When I woke up, Emiline was away. Pondering on her whereabouts, those thoughts were put aside as I saw the blonde Magi come in with Leila. My eyes widened and my face reddened from the sight of her coming in with my merchant friend. She was now wearing a sleeveless white dress with a long skirt that revealed the front part of her legs, which also had a smaller skirt that reached to her knees. Two long white veils formed hops. Like me, she too had a blush on her face and looked away from me.
"Ramses, don't you have something to say?" Emiline said,"She begged for a break from her boss to get to here."
Or maybe YOU did. With a sigh, I walked up to Leila, who was still looking away from me.
"Leila? W.. will y-you go on a... rape-ergh Date!" I was so nervous from just trying to say the words. Why did I utter rape?!
She hid behind Emiline from hearing the word, rape. Or maybe date? Most likely both. In my head, my left and right side brains manifested as smaller versions of me who nodded to each other.
"Both?" said the left brain.
"Both," the right one spoke.
"Both." the two sides said in unison.
Yep, I think she was scared of both the utterance of rape and date. I still haven't got her answer though, and because she stayed, maybe she still has a response ready to be said.
"Don't get the wrong idea!" I shouted,"Will you go on a date with me?"
The latter was spoke in a bit of a nervous accent.
"O-okay."
Emiline hopped into the air for joy and formed a loop through her flight path. I approached Leila, who was still nervous as I was. I held her arm and we both walked out into the bazaar. I looked back and saw Emiline... holding some sort of device?
"Emiline! Please leave us be!" I commanded the excited lady.
With a whiny pout, she raspberry'd us and floated back to home. As much as I want to keep her out of our reach, I wanted our...*sigh* date to be solid. I can handle myself. I already know when and where to take her out on a date. According to Emiline, the destinations are situational, because sometimes, both partners ask each other where they want to go. In case I was asked, I already have a list in my head that I remembered from Emiline. Since the lady wants a good date, I have to ask first.
"Ramses, I really like your new clothing," she said a bit shyly with a bit of a giggle,"Though your hair needs to be worked upon."
I don't want to go to a barber on my first date.
"Thanks, but my hair stays," she laughed lightly from my reply,"So, where do you wanna go?"
The girl put a finger on her chin and looked into the sky. After a few minutes, she looked back at me.
"Well, I'm almost always busy at work, I've always wanted to visit the remains of Amon," she said.
I nodded and we headed for the staircase to the upper level of Qishan. While we were walking, we only exchanged small talk due to our nervousness. Such small talk included the weather, how we fare, and what we ate for breakfast. It's funny, I barely get hungry and I just skipped breakfast at home. I was currently chewing on an apple that I bought from the market. I actually bought a few more and gave some to Leila, much to her amusement.
"You're quite a gentleman you know?" she said as she chewed on an apple,"Are you really just a traveler and a Dungeon Capturer?"
"I'll tell you about me later... now's just not the time," I don't want to tell her about me being in the Royal Household of Heliohapt. I just don't feel like I'd be seen as her equal, judging by her current job as a merchant. Dungeon Capturer is just a title, and it doesn't make me too special. Sure I can Djinn Equip, but being a Dungeon Capturer doesn't mean I'm a god or something.
"Oh... okay,"
We managed to reach the remains of Amon. A large crater that was quite deep was leftover from the dungeon. After a few years, it has been slightly filled up. Alibaba Saluja conquered this dungeon.
"My friend said that his friend conquered it with his help," said Leila.
"I'm guessing your friend was Aladdin, right?" she was surprised that I knew about Aladdin.
"How did you know? Where is he now?" she said with a big smile on her face.
"He's currently in Sindria right now,"
She sighed and turned away from me as she looked into the blue sky. The wind blew, our hair fluttered with the wind, and my sash flowed along.
"Aladdin was such a great friend, he helped me reconcile with my friend, Sahsa after she got kidnapped by thieves,"
I've talked with Aladdin in my spare time and he told me some of the adventures he went through... though his biggest highlights involved the fondling of breasts. Heck, he even remembered whose breasts he fondled. Sahsa, a bunch of women in nightclubs, Yamuraiha, Ex-Princess Dunya, Myers from Magnostadt, and Titus. The latter disturbed me and Aladdin calmed me down by telling me that it was an accident. Titus does look like Scheherazade.
"Thieves, huh?"
"Do you have a special friend that helped you come up from mounds of misery like me?"
Armakan Amun-Ra was the closest thing I had to a special friend. While he can be quite rude and direct, he still shows me compassion, love, and a helping hand. He was like a big brother I've always wanted. I don't want to tell her about my past yet.
"Yeah..." I said in a low voice.
The sun was still up high, and we had all day to do something together. She turned to me and walked up to me nervously.
"Well... now that we got here, what do you want to do?" she said as she rubbed her arm with her right hand.
I thought for a moment and when I got an idea, I smiled. I put my hand on my sheath and used my thumb to flick my sword out.
"Wahahaha!"
We went on another Lykos ride over Qishan. Flying was so fun. The wind in our hair, the speed that built up, and the sight over Qishan was beautiful.
"I don't care if you put up a wind barrier or not, I just want to experience high speeds!" shouted Leila.
"Check out this new trick I learned yesterday. All you have to do is just let go."
"Wait, what!?" she shouted in confusion,"Get me down then, NOW!"
With a nod, I commanded Lykos to form a loop. He curved up into the air. When he curved high as he could, we were upside down. Leila fell down and screamed in fear as she fell down. When Lykos completed the loop, I was already where she was and I caught her in my arms. We looked at each other and noticed that we all have red faces. She was breathing heavily from that experience and slapped me in the face.
"Put me back to my seat!" she demanded.
I looked at Lykos and nodded. A small wind vortex carried her and gently put her on Lykos's back.
"C-can we go slow this time?" she said with a bit of shyness.
Lykos flew at a much more gentler speed and we both used that speed to look at the desert surrounding Qishan. The sands reminded me of home. Heliohapt, like other lands had unforgiving places such as the slums. What was worse was that the slums were basically isolated away from the rest of Heliohapt. Even though we were far, my family and friends there were close. Even if we fought for more money or food, we still enjoyed our lives there. I looked behind me and saw Leila enjoying the view.
"Qishan sure is beautiful from the outside, eh?" she said.
"Yeah... sure does," she stared back at me, causing me to turn even more redder. I still smiled though,"not as much as you."
She seemed to have been taken aback from my comment, expressed through that o-shaped face. I looked to my left and right during this awkward silence. Few seconds past, and she broke it with a loud laugh. She laughed so hard that she leaned backward. Okay, I think I'm confused.
"Leila?"
It was nearing nightfall. The sun was coming close to the horizon. According to Emiline, the sunset is usually a romantic moment, so I had to be in a good position.
Rooftop of a building on the Higher level of Qishan.
When we landed, we went to the bazaar and ate some food, and try out clothing. I told her about my stories in Andras and Goap, and she told me about her days as a merchant and how she met her friends, Sahsa, Morgiana, and Aladdin.
Both of us sat on top of the roof, looking at the sunset. I still had enough Magoi to move a few blocks, but resting here will restore some Magoi. The sun in Qishan is quite beautiful. All of the town was slightly orange from the setting sun. I looked at Leila, who was smiling at the beauty of the sky.
"You know, Ramses, that was a pretty amazing first date. It's not every day someone has a flying dog," she chuckled.
"Yes. I could have done all of these things we did together myself, but it wouldn't have been fun without you around," I was so dense to realize that my shyness was absent during some moments of our date.
Leila may sometimes outburst violently, but she's still kind, caring, and is quick to forgive. I heard her sigh and looked at me.
"Ramses... you know I wasn't always a friendly merchant..." she said, still looking at the sun.
"Hmm?" I furrowed my brow in curiosity.
"I was once a thief you know, one that robs caravans in trading routes," a single tear shed in her eye,"I pretend to be dead and ask the caravan people to help me, then I mislead them into one of thief hideout I affiliated with to get their stuff."
She started to sniffle and dug her face in her own dress. Just seeing her like this made me feel bad.
"But then, when I befriended Sahsa, a daughter of a caravan owner, I started to change and started to find a better reason to live. I had so much fun, but when the thieves from the past visited me during a plan for our next sale, I was exiled from what I loved doing."
The more she talked about her past, the stronger her tears shed.
"And by that time, I'm guessing Aladdin helped you to get your friend back?"
She nodded silently.
"During the time I was left in the desert, I had to suffer through many days without food or water. I just walked and walked, but then you came and saved me. You even offered some of your treasure and services afterward. When you worked with us, you were patient, tolerant to mistakes, and very friendly. I grew to like you so much, but then I was reminded of the past and I feel like I can't be with you with my past as a thief."
I put a hand on her shoulder and looked at her in her swollen eyes. I smiled warmly to comfort her sad state. I can't stand to see someone I care about so much be in this state. But thanks to her revealing her past to me, I felt that a wall that we both formed to block each other out has been shattered.
"Leila... I'm so glad you told me about your past. It makes me want to like you more than ever," I said with a smile, causing her to blush madly.
"I too was a thief, a poor thief who scrounged in the slums, but I was saved and adopted by the Royal Household when my parents died from rival thieves. Heck, I even had to hurt others to get what I wanted. But even with my monstrosities, even when some of the aristocrats and the middle class Armakan, my savior, has accepted me for who I was and continued to train me."
Her sad face loosened up a little, making her have a more curious looking expression.
"Thief, merchant, or reject, I love and accept you with all I am, Leila, and I hope that you would accept me as an equal like how we were merchants."
She sniffled more and her eyes started to water. I don't know if I said the wrong thing or not, but I sure hope these are tears of joy. She quickly ran to me and threw a tender embrace.
"Oh Ramses, thank you! I was just so nervous about approaching you that I had to talk to Sahsa for help,"
I laughed lightly and patted her back. I felt relief from
"It's funny, I asked Emiline what to do before our first date,"
Both of us laughed from the coincidence. It's like those two worked together to set it up. I don't really care right now, I'm with the cutest lady I've met... but I still have priorities.
She squeezed my hands and we both stood up. We both smiled at each other as the setting sun's rays were bathing us. Everything about Leila just makes my innards get tied in knots. The sight of her just drives me into silliness; a good kind. Never have I ever have fallen in love with such a kind and beautiful girl. This feeling, it feels... right. She leaned in closer to my chest and reached for my face with hers. I looked at her with my green eyes and slowly closed the distance.
"Hands off him, you whore!" a voice shouted. Before the biggest moment, I looked to my right quickly and saw a girl that was around my age, standing on top of a flying carpet. Because she was standing in front of the sun, I could only see a silhouette of her.
She equipped what looked like two clawed gloves with three long blades on the knuckles. She had a bob cut and wore rather tight clothing. The two claws started glowing, much to my horror.
"Ramses... did you miss me?"
"That voice..." I widened my eyes in terror. Images of my childhood friend started to flashback to me like a large wave crashing on a boat.
"Serket?!"
A/N: Well... um, yeah. I guess I should say that I went against my word of no ships with characters in the show, but will it last? I did a ship between the two because of their backgrounds. When I was in the middle of making Ramses, I didn't know about Leila that time (she was too much of a minor character to remember even when I read the manga). Welp, you can probably call this some sort of hipster OCx(character in Magi) pairing, ya bunch of fujoshis who're reading this(I guess I should be a bit more honest in here, just not too honest). When I saw her, she seemed pretty cute. Her looks, her personality were all cute, but I still deem Hakuei and Morgiana as the top females of Magi.
Also, thank you 1400 viewers for reading my story. Though not as large and successful compared to others, I still appreciate people who read this and at least having them support me. Writing this fic is fun, and your support keeps on driving me to write more and making it worthwhile.
