Greetings everyone! I was planning on waiting until Halloween to post this but I thought, "What the heck? Might as well." This is for Fred and George Weasley Twins!
Song: Wouldn't Change A Thing
~*Amelia's POV*~
"Yes."
"No."
"YES, Arthur."
"NO, Amelia."
The young couple glared at each other from over their lunches. Arthur had brought a bag from home with a ham sandwich, juice box and cookies - ahem, sorry - biscuits. Opting for a school lunch, Amelia had gotten a slice of pizza accompanied with some baby carrots and chocolate milk. Both meals were ignored as a staring contest quickly followed. After a minute Arthur finally blinked and his frown deepened at Amelia's triumphant grin (she still hadn't blinked). "I'm NOT going."
"Aw, c'mon Artieeeeeeee~"
"No."
"You're so mean!"
"Eesh, vhat's up vith you two zhis time?" Gilbert, Amelia's crazy albino friend, asked as he sat at the circular table. The blondes snapped at the same time;
"It's his fault!"
"It's her fault!"
They resumed their glaring match as the rest of their friends quickly filled the table. Gilbert Francis, Antonio, and Matthias sat near Amelia while Lukas, Roderich, Vash and Sakura sat to Arthur's side. These two different parties had come to a tenuous truce after their mutual friends had started dating. It was generally agreed that Amelia, Matthias and Gilbert would tone down their antics a bit and that Arthur's friends would refrain from condemning them for their "crassness".
Gilbert wolfed down half his burrito in one bite. "So, are you guys gonna Trick-or-Treat vith us?"
Amelia's glare morphed into a pout and she whined. "I am, but Artie won't coooooooome!"
Matthias tsked. "That's cold man. Leaving your girl to fend for herself on Halloween?"
"Good grief! We're Juniors! We're too old for that kind of thing," Arthur protested. Sakura nodded vaguely while thumbing through her iPhone.
"You're never too old unless you say you are!" Amelia argued.
"Wait til you hit menopause before you repeat that," Francis snickered. Arthur growled and grabbed one of Amelia's carrots to throw at him but Amelia was quicker. She grabbed the rest and flung them at Francis. They were wide off the mark however, and hit Antonio instead.
"Dude, are you taking Arthur's side now?!"
"Non, I merely-OW! That hurt, Arthur!" Francis rubbed his forehead ruefully. Arthur's aim was impeccable.
Amelia sighed and looked down at her plate. She wasn't feeling hungry at the moment. Really, was this too much to ask of Arthur? Just one night, that's all she wanted. One night to go out and have fun, get a sugar rush and enjoy one another's company. But nooooooooo. Arthur was always like this! Always distant and aloof. Jeez, why had she even agreed to date him? Most of the time he rebuffed any attempt at affection. Maybe it was because he was so adorably shy when he thought no one was watching them. He would reach for her hand on the bus and not let go until it was his stop and blush scarlet when Amelia kissed his cheek. He had a hidden poetic streak in him, a closet romantic you might say, and had composed many a pretty verse for her.
No.
That wasn't going to cut it. He had to at least try to get out of his comfort zone, gosh darn it! ….She'd thought that maybe since everyone ever was going to be dressing up and going out on Halloween that Arthur would go. Once again, she was disappointed.
Amelia scooped up her plate. "I'm going to the library." Everyone watched open-mouthed as she dumped her still full tray in the garbage and weaved through the other students to get to the library. The. Library. As in, Amelia was going to the library.
~*Arthur's POV*~
"It seems zhat miracles do happen," Roderich quipped. Gilbert sneered at him and flicked his spork across the table so it landed on his plate.
Sakura finally looked up. "I think you upset her, Arthur-san," she whispered. Arthur groaned and slammed a fist on the table, making various wrappers jump.
"I know, blast it!"
Amelia…. Amelia was so complicated! And clingy. She insisted on kissing and hugging in broad daylight for anyone walking by to gawk at. Not to mention she was loud. But…. it was also an innocent kind of obnoxiousness. She had a huge heart and gladly shared it with anyone in need. Arthur had seen her stare down bullies and walk arm in arm with a Special Needs student. Her smile could brighten the day of the most hardcore pessimist. Really though, Trick-or-Treating? He knew Amelia was a touch childish but to request such a thing and then get into one of her rare moods when it was denied…
Lukas eyed him. "You two need to learn to compromise a bit."
"Oui, you are exact opposites," Francis added around a bite of roll.
"Ah, but that's not such a bad thing…." Sakura blushed faintly when everyone looked at her. "My friend Heracles told me once that Venus and Mars were lovers. They were exact opposites; she brought love to the world while he delighted in bloodshed, but they loved each other."
Arthur rolled his eyes. "Venus was a whore who would seduce anyone except her own husband."
"Then you are better off than Mars," Roderich pointed out.
"That's not- I…. shut up! I'll figure this out by myself!" Arthur stuffed his uneaten lunch back in his bag and stormed off.
A few days later…
~*Arthur's POV*~
Arthur straighten his collar nervously before knocking on the door to the Jones' house. It wasn't a big house, barely bigger than an apartment really, but it had been repainted a light yellow that complimented the brown roof shingles. All in all, it was a cozy looking house that fit the family living inside.
After a few seconds the door opened and Matthew, Amelia's twin, peeked out. He looked Arthur up and down, smiling slightly, before standing aside to let him in. "You're here to pick up Amelia, right? I'll get her." He walked down the hall, pausing at an open doorway to say, "Arthur's here", before turning a corner.
The sounds of pots and pans rang out from the door and was followed by an older woman with dirty-blonde hair. She smiled brightly and walked over to greet Arthur, wiping her hands on a towel.
"Well, don't you look handsome?" she said, reaching out and grabbing his hand between hers. "I'm glad you're here. Amelia didn't get many chances to be a kid-" A buzzing noise from the kitchen cut her off. "Oh, that'll be the cookies!"
Arthur shook his head in amazement as she hurried back to the kitchen. Mrs. Jones was probably the strongest woman he'd ever met. After her husband had run out on her with all their money, she'd been left to care for her eldest child, Maria. A one night stand plus nine months later had given little Maria two siblings and her mother two more mouths to feed. She could have easily given them up for adoption, heck, she could have chosen abortion a long time ago, but instead had insisted that they stick together.
Now, seventeen years later, she was a nurse making good money and Maria was a few months away from graduating high school and starting her college life.
"MAMA! I'm heading oooouuuuuttt! And before you say it's too early, the sun has set and there are kids out in the streeeeeeeeeett!" A loud voice called from around the corner. Speak of the devil. Arthur turned to say hello to Maria….. and saw that she was, ironically, dressed in a devil costume. The bright red leggings, tail, horns and shirt - well, it was basically a glorified bra - contrasted sharply with her caramel skin and her black hair, which accentuated her black boots, belt, and pseudo pitchfork.
"Oh hey, Eoin's brother," Maria drawled. Arthur resisted the urge to roll his eyes; Maria had never bothered to learn his name when she'd found out that his older brother was someone she'd dated in 5th grade. She sauntered past him, stopping long enough to run a hand over his jacket sleeve. "Wow, great outfit. Feliz Halloween!" He winced as she slammed the door open with and closed it behind her with a bang. Nothing about Maria had ever been subtle. Now, where was Amelia?
~*Amelia's POV*~
"Aaaaaaand there!" Amelia grinned as she adjusted her large cowboy hat. Her plaid shirt and dark blue jeans coupled with her large belt, cowboy boots, and hat gave a convincing impression of a real cowgirl. Too bad her hair wasn't long enough to justify a braid. Her phone buzzed, announcing a recent text message, and she grabbed it hastily, hopefully.
the awesome 1s will pick u up in 5!
Oh… it was just Gilbert. Dang. She could vaguely hear Maria yelling in the background but that didn't help her mood any. The text became blurry and Amelia blinked rapidly, determined not to let any tears fall and ruin her mascara. Her mood was broken by a tapping at her door and, with a final sniffle, she forced a smile on her face and opened it. Matthew stood there, his long blond hair falling over his eyes. Jeez, it's almost as long as mine, Amelia thought. She'd tell mom to give him a trim when the opportunity provided.
"What's up?" she asked.
Matthew shrugged. "There's someone waiting for you?"
Ah, so Gilbert had sped again. How long had she been staring at that text? Wait…. someone? She pushed past Matthew, not noticing his smirk, and peeked around the corner to the main hallway. Arthur was there! AND he was dressed up as a pirate! He cut a dashing figure with his red coat, black (?) boots, and tricorn hat. He truly looked like a pirate, and not one of those fake ones with a hook or a fake parrot sitting on their shoulder. He looked nervous, but he was here.
"ARTIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
She tackle-hugged him and he staggered under her weight before balancing himself. His face turned bright pink and he looked away. "A-Amelia! You surprised me."
"Not as much as you surprised me! I thought you weren't coming!"
She saw his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed. He leaned in as close as their wide brimmed hats would allow and lowered his voice, making his next sentence's private and more meaningful than any gift.
"I had a change of heart. I decided…. to try and meet you halfway. I know I never show it, but I love you, Amelia. I love you so much. I can forgive any inconsequential faults you might have just to be with you. So, will you go Trick-or-Treating with me?"
This time Amelia didn't try to stop her tears. "Did you really have to ask?"
X3 They're so adorkable!
THEY ARE STUPID AND DUMB. *cries at cuteness*
Yes, Epic. Yes they are.
As another reminder for y'all. I'm want to add all you great reviewers to the last chapter. Leave a description of yourself and a name (both can be fake) if you'd like to be in it.
