Chapter 17: Snow

"Well, that was kind of fun." Felix said as we drove down the road and towards the safe Haven.

"Yeah. Kind of." I smirked.

"Are we almost back yet?" Cry asked, stretched out in the back seat.

He looked so uncomfortable back there but it was kind of funny actually. I laughed as Cry grid moving into a comfier position but failed. He looked at me and glared, but with a small smile.

"Hey, don't you glare at me mister! It's not my fault that you couldn't call shotgun fast enough!" I laughed.

"Im the one with the actual shotgun!" Cry said and picked up the fire arm he had found in a building this morning.

"And I'm the one driving so you two can be quiet!" Felix said jokingly.

We drove for another ten minutes before we stopped for a break. I got out of the car normally while Cry climbed out of the back and ran towards a building shouting that he needed to pee. After he was done, we carried on driving; we just wanted to get back now! We drove for another forty-five minutes until we saw the 'wall' which had been made of broken debris, cars and just plain old rubbish.

I grinned as we pulled up and Felix honked the horn. I spotted someone looking over at us but made no move.

"Uh, dude? Wanna do your thing?" Cry said pointing to the guy.

Felix grinned and wound down the window and stuck his head out. "HEY! Let us in! IT'S FELIX AND HIS BROS! HELLO?!" The gates swung open and we drove in. "And that how you do it!"

"Genius-" I began to say one word before Felix interrupted me.

"-PEWDS STRIKES AGAIN!" He said and sighed.

"Goddammit, you're going to give me a headache!" Cry said.

We got out of the car and we saw Ken standing not to far away talking to someone. Felix called him over and he said goodbye to the girl. She nodded and began to walk off. I noticed that she wore glasses and had brown hair that was slightly tinted red, most likely from it used to being coloured; but you can't really do that now, can you?

"Hey guys!" Ken said walking over to us. "How'd it go?"

"Good but first of all - who was that?!" Felix asked grinning mischievously.

"Just a friend." Ken smiled.

"What's her name?" Cry asked, smirking.

"Katie." Ken shrugged.

"Cry, do you know what this means?" Felix said looking over at Cry.

"KENS GOT A GIRLFRIEND!" They both 'squealed' and hugged each other.

"Our little boys grown up!" Cry smirked.

"I'm older than you!" Ken said.

"They're not gonna listen Ken." I said placing a hand on his boulder. "I say run for the hills."

"I'll see you later Bree." Ken smiled at me and took one of the bags full of food we had managed to scavenge and left.

I also left as well. I went and found Russ and Red sitting on a wall not far from everyone else.

"Hey Bree!" Red smiled as she saw me.

"Hey." I said as I walked up to them.

"How'd it go with Felix?" Russ asked pushing his glasses back up the brim of his nose.

"Okay. We had a little trouble with Glitchers..." I said.

I didn't know if I should tell them about the bug... Should I? I mean, I've known these guys for months and we've become great friends! But what if they then think differently of me when they find out? God, I hate decisions! I'll talk to Cry about it later...

"You okay Bree?" Red asked.

"Oh what? Yeah, I'm fine." I said smiling.

"I'm gonna go find the others." Russ said and got up and walked off.

Red waved after him and then looked at me with a serious expression.

"What?" I asked.

"You're hiding something." Red said simply, pointing at me.

"Maybe I am." I said crossing my arms.

"Why won't you tell us?" Red asked.

"I don't know if I should... Or can..." I said.

"You can trust us!" Red said.

"I'll talk to you about it later okay? I have to go and find my sister." I said.

"Fine." Red sighed. "We'll talk about it later."

"See ya Red!" I smiled and walked off.

I wrapped my jacket closer round me as I walked past people. Winter was finally here; it was a little harder to survive on your own in Winter but I'm lucky I have Cry and the others. I wonder if it'll snow... I walked through the small area and soon found Jamie.

"Jamie!" I shouted out and I aw him turn and grin.

"Hey shorty!" He called me by my old nickname and I grimaced as he hugged me.

"Do you really have to call me that?" I said. "I'm much taller now!"

"But your still short." Jamie smirked.

"Oh piss off." I sneered at him and he flicked me on the head. "Ow!"

"How'd it go anyway?" He said leaning against a wall.

"Good, there was a little trouble but we handled it." I smiled.

I didn't even know if I could tell my brother... I sighed. He my brother! Of course I can tell him! So I told him. I told him about the bug and he surprisingly took it well.

"But are you okay now?" He asked.

"Yeah James, I'm fine. Where is Ellie anyway?" I asked.

"At 'school'." He said. "There's a lady called April or something who decided that it is still important for the kids of this generation to learn stuff. It seems stupid to me but Ellie enjoys it."

"Well, if she likes it - then that's a good thing." I said.

"You can go and pick her up if you want. It's about to finish anyway." Jamie said and told me where this 'school' was.

So I walked to this weird 'school' and waited outside. Ellie soon came walking out and grinned as she saw me and ran over and hugged me. I chuckled and hugged her back.

"Hey Ellie." I smiled and ruffled her hair.

"Hey Bree." She said and smiled. "I thought you were going or be back yesterday!"

"We got caught up in a little trouble but were fine" I grinned.

"Cool." Ellie smiled and we walked along.

We soon found Jamie and I had to excuse myself as I had to talk to Cry and Felix. I promised them that I would be back later. I went to Felix's office but I didn't find him there; I asked Krism and she said he went down to the infirmary. I headed that way and found Jund retuning his crutches.

"Hey there crippled." I joked.

"Haha!" He sneered and smirked. "I'm afraid I have to return these bad boys - I can walk with out them now."

"That's really great Jund." I smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Seriously, I'm glad you're feeling better."

"Thanks Bree. You looking for Felix and Cry? I think I saw Felix down the hallway." Jund said pointing in the direction.

"Really? Thanks Jund!" I said and walked off down the hall.

"Felix?" I called out quietly, looking for him.

"In here Bree." Felix said and I pulled back a curtain and saw him standing next to Marzia who was having her hand bandaged up.

"Hey Felix, Marzia - what happened?!" I asked.

"I sprained my hand trying to move some heavy boxes." Marzia said looking at me embarrassed.

"She's a little embarrassed." Felix mouthed.

"Don't worry about it Marzia. When I first tried to use a gun, I almost blew my brothers foot off; it was an accident!" I said and Felix laughed.

"Are you looking for Cry?" Felix asked. "I saw him earlier."

"How about you go find him?" Marzia suggested.

"Um, okay?" Felix said and left, closing the curtain behind him.

"What was that all about?" I asked looking at Marzia who was taking her off one of her shoes wiht her good hand.

"Wait." She said.

She aimed with the shoe and launched it at the closed curtain. I watched as it hit the curtain - and the curtain cursed in Swedish.

"Go Felix!" She giggled.

"I'm going..." Felix mumbled and I heard him walk off.

"Cheeky little bugger..." I chuckled, shaking my head and then I looked at Marzia. "So what did you want?"

"Can you teach me how to fight?" She asked suddenly.

"What?" I said confused.

"I'm useless! I lied to Felix about me moving the boxes! I was trying to learn how to use a weapon on my own and at plan kind of backfired..." She said. "I want to learn how to fight!"

"Oh um..." I mumbled, not sure what to say. "Sure? But lets wait till you've rested your hand and its better."

"Yes!" Marzia said happily and jumped up and hugged me. "Thank you Bree!"

"No problem Marzia." I laughed and hugged her back. "But I think I'll have to bring someone else along as I am not the best fighter."

"Okay! Sure! Whatever you need but please don't tell Felix!"

"Okay! We'll leave it to a surprise." I winked.

Marzia left to go and find her pugs while Felix soon returned with Cry. He grinned at me and I couldn't help but smile back.

"Hey guys." I said.

"So what's up?" Felix asked.

"Should it well people about the bug? Like close friends and people we can trust? Cause I think they deserve to know..." I said.

"I think it's a good idea, people we trust should be fine." Cry said, readjusting his mask.

"Yep. I agree. But only people we trust; so like the Late night Crew and the others trusted friends." Felix said.

"Okay. That'll be something good to get off of my chest." I smiled.

So that night, I told Red and the others. They took it pretty well, asked a couple of questions but it was all fine. I also had Cry's support which was good as well. We all stayed up by a fire and laughed and told different stories from our old lives. I heard of all the crazy fan art they had seen and some of it made me cringe a little. Seriously, how could someone think up something as weird as the things they were mentioning.

It soon got a little late so we decided to head off to bed. We all said goodbye until it was just Cry and me. I smiled at him and his mouth formed into a large grin. I felt something drop down onto my nose and I looked up startled.

Beginning to slowly drift down from the sky were little white snowflakes. I smiled and looked at Cry, who was also grinning as well. It suddenly got very cold and I wrapped my arms around myself.

"Goodnight Bree." Cry smiled and leant down and kissed me on the cheek.

"Night Cry." I smiled at him. "If there's enough snow tomorrow - snowball fight."

"Oh you're going down!" Cry laughed.

"Bring it on." I taunted.

"See ya!" Cry said and began to walk off to a different building were his room was.

I then headed off to mine. I changed into my 'pyjamas'; which consisted of a long sleeved dark purple jumper and some tracksuit bottoms. I also put on a pair of socks as I knew it was going to be cold tonight. I took my hair out of its high ponytail and ruffled it a little before climbing into my small bed and pulling the covers over me and tried to sleep.

I woke up and shivered immediately. Bloody hell it was cold! I got up and quickly got dressed. I put on a vest top and then I put a black v - neck jumper. I put on a pair of dark coloured jeans and my black boots. I brushed my long brown hair quickly and put a beanie hat with a bobble on it instead of tying up my hair.

I then quickly went outside and smiled in awe at what I saw. There was snow everywhere. It may be cold but it looked awesome! I grinned and I saw suddenly saw Cry and the others appear. I couldn't help but laugh at Russ' hat. He had one of those winter hats with tassels and a bobble on top. I laughed as Jund waved. I ran through the snow towards them, my feet crunching in the snow.

"Snow day!" Jund yelled happily and Raven laughed at him.

"Snowball fight right now!" Russ said.

"Like I said before - you're going down Cry!" I said.

"Bring it!" He said.

"Hey guys!" We heard someone call and we turned and saw Ken walking towards us with Marzia and Felix in tow.

"Hey Ken." Russ said greeting the three.

"Snowball fight?" Red asked.

"Oh! I am so in!" Felix grinned.

"Well, you're going down bro." Marzia smirked.

"Okay - lets settle this; boys versus girls. If you get hit three times, your out! Lets go!" Minx said.

We all split up and the epic war began. Snowballs went flying everywhere, I was barely able to dodge some. I suddenly heard Krism curse under her breath and I saw Snake laughing; that was one weird noise.

"Better luck next time honey." Minx said as Krism stood back.

"Red! Watch out!" Krism said, pointing at Russ.

He was running towards her with a snowball in hand. She stood there ready to run when suddenly, Raven came out of nowhere and dive bombed Russ, hitting him in the face with a big snowball. That was his third hit. He was out. He groaned and stood by Krism.

As the game went on, people started to lose one by one. After Russ, Jund was out, then Ken, Felix, Red, Raven and then Minx. It was just Marzia, Dnake, Cry and myself left. Marzia and I worked together well. We worked together to take Snake out and then it was just Cry left.

I smirked and grinned darkly at him and I swear I saw him gulp. I looked over at Marzia who grinned.

"Lets crush him." I said and she nodded.

We began to launch snowballs towards the masked man. I laughed as he quickly began to duck and dodge while cursing loudly. I laughed and hit him with one yes! We just had to hit him two more times and he was done! Marzia threw a snowball and hit him on the shoulder.

He cursed loudly but managed to hit me with a snowball. I had one chance left. So did Marzia. But she turned out to be our ultimate weapon! She threw a snowball and hit Cry full in the face!

"NO!" He shouted.

I laughed and we all congratulated Marzia who was so happy. And that reminded me - we were starting our practise next week. But right now, it was time to enjoy the snow.
