Chapter 18: Girl's Day Out?

Everything was quiet. Quiet and kind of peaceful... But then the crunching in the snow began. Slow and steady footsteps stepping into the clear, crystal snow. I looked around at my surroundings; everything seemed clear. I turned around and walked back into the building and sat down by the small fire we had burning.

"Anything to be seen?" Red asked.

"Nothing yet." I answered, rubbing my hands and holding them near the fire, in an attempt to warm them up.

"Well, that's good." Red murmured, passing me a can of beans that had just been cooked.

I took them great fully and began to eat. I looked around at the others surrounding the fire; Marzia, the new girl Katie, Raven, Krism, Minx, Red and myself. We had set off yesterday under Minx's orders for a little training and 'girl time'?! It had been a week since Marzia and I had arranged to begin to train her to fight and learn how to use some weapons. To help us, I had called in on Minx who happily agreed to help but insisted we bring the other girls.

It would be fun she said. Nothing bad would happen she said. Well, we bumped into a small pack of Glitchers and got those sorted out but Red hurt her head a little. But apart from that we were fine. It had also snowed a lot since last week and right now - we were freezing.

"So Katie," Minx asked looking at the newbie. "What's going on between you an Ken?"

We all smirked and leaned in closer to her. She blinked in surprise and re-adjusted her glasses. When we asked her to join us yesterday, we were finally able to see what she looked like up close; and not from a distance with her talking to Ken. She had brown hair at had a slight reddish tint to it that came down just past her shoulders; she had glasses and she always seemed to be wearing this little camo cap. She also had three knives strapped to her belt - it also seemed that she didn't know how to use a gun either like Marzia. I'm surprised how she lasted this long.

"Um... There's nothing going on." Katie said simply.

"Oh come on!" Raven said leaning forward.

"There had to be something going on!" Krism said.

"You can tell us." I smiled.

"Yeah, we're friends now!" Marzia said smiling as well.

"There's nothing going on okay!" Katie said, a slight blush appearing on her face. "...well..."

"I KNEW IT!" Krism shouted.

"Chill Krism." Minx laughed.

"I think I may kinda like him..." Katie said, pulling her hat down a little.

We talked for a while longer before we all decided to catch some sleep. Red stayed up on first watch. I laid awake for a little while, wishing I was back at the Haven; where it was safe and dry and warm, where we could sleep in actual beds (they may not be the best but it's better than sleeping on the floor), where we could be back with the others... But we couldn't go back yet. We had training to do. When that was done - then we could go back.

I close my eyes as sleep finally decided to pay me a visit and I soon drifted off.

"Okay, now do what I showed you." I smiled at Marzia. "Remember to take it off of the safety."

Marzia nodded and quickly brushed her long side fringe out of the way as she held up the gun. She took off the safety and rested her finger on the trigger and took in a deep breath and then she pulled the trigger. She let out a slight yelp at the sound which the gun made but then she frowned as she saw the glass bottle still sitting on the wall.

"That was good." I praised, trying to lift her spirits. "But next time - don't be afraid of the gun. And move your aim a little to the left."

"Okay..." Marzia sighed and reloaded the weapon.

"Just take a deep breath." I said standing behind her.

Marzia nodded and I saw her inhale and take the safety off. She rested her finger on the trigger and just as she pulled it - she exhaled. I watched as the glass bottle shattered as the bullet came into contact with it.

Marzia grinned and turned and looked at me. I smiled and hugged her back as she put the gun down and wrapped her arms around me.

"I did it!" Marzia exclaimed happily.

"See! I told you!" I grinned.

"Thank you Bree!" Marzia smiled as she hugged me.

We practised for a little longer before we decided to go and find the others. We found them watching Katie practise. She was still trying but I could see she was still getting there.

We walked up to them and I was about to speak when gun shots echoed out. We all turned and looked in the direction of where the sound had come from. A Glitcher screech erupted the silence and suddenly a human somewhere yelled.

"We've got to help them!" Marzia said.

Should we risk it though? These people may not be helpful and if they got a chance - maybe kill us. I sighed and looked at Marzia and then the others.

"Lets go." I said.

I kept quiet as we quietly walked through the woods, we were on the look out for any signs of survivors, Glitchers or any other threats. It was almost fifteen minutes ago when the gunfire ceased and for someone reason - if s driving me crazy.

The silence seemed unbearable. I yearned to hear a sound or something apart from the breathing of the girls with me or our footsteps in the snowy tracks making crunching noises.

We soon came towards a small river and walked along next to it, soon reaching a small fluff face hitch was where the source of the water came from.

While walking past the cliff, I tripped on a large stone and stumbled into a moss covered part of the cliff. I expected to just hit the fluff and then stand up and carry on walking but it seemed that I fell through the cliff. I fell back a bit, rolling down a steep path before stopping Nd letting out a groan.

I opened my eyes to see a rifle pointed at the spot between my eyes. My eyes drifted up and away from the gun to see a man wearing a genie with a lot of stubble and also looked exhausted as well.

"So who are you?" He asked.

I looked up at him and gulped. I could hear my friends calling for me and searching. Soon their voices began to get closer. Suddenly, the man pulled the rifle away from my face and grabbed me; pulling me to my feet he wrapped an arm around me, holding me to him. I was about to struggle when I felt something cold and sharp touch my throatgently.

I froze and watched as the others suddenly appeared into this strange little cave place and same to a halt as they saw the man holding the knife to my throat.

"Who are you?!" He shouted. "Take another step and she dies."

"Whoa, buddy!" Red said. "Calm down!"

"Put the knife away! It doesn't have to be like this!" Krism tried.

"Shut up!" The man said.

"Wait!" Marzia's small voice could be heard from the back of the group.

She slowly walked forward, moving past the others to get a better looked at the man. I saw her look at him curiously, her eyes full of some slight hope.

"Anthony? Anthony Padilla, is that you?" Marzia asked quietly.

I felt the man freeze but I didn't dare move due to the knife that was at my throat.

"Oh my god. Marzia?" The man asked.

Marzia grinned and I felt the knife being pulled away from my neck and I let out the breath I had been holding. I quickly moved forward to the others and turned to look at Marzia and then at 'Anthony'.

"Youtuber?" I asked.

Marzia nodded sheepishly and Anthony gave a lopsided half smile. I sighed.

"I shoulda known..." I sighed and smiled.
