Chapter 19: Taken

I walked alongside Marzia as 'Anthony' led us through to the back of the cave. Even if this guy was a friend of Marzia's, I was still a bit wary of him; but really, who could blame me? He had just held a blade to my throat.

As we were walking, I managed it get a good look at Anthony. He was wearing black skinny jeans, a black v-neck shirt with a leather jacket on top. He also wore a pair of fingerless gloves and he had a beanie on which covered his dark brown hair. His face look tired and worn due to the slight bags under his eyes and the stubble on his face.

He led us round a corner and I looked and saw another man leant up against a wall his eyes closed, hardly moving.

"Oh shit..." Anthony said and ran forward. "Ian, you okay? Wake up dude!"

Ian groaned and opened his eyes weakly and looked up at Anthony an then he looked over at us. "Hey man..." He said. "You brought guests...?"

"Ian!" Marzia gasped, now realising another of her friends was alive.

"Small world." Ian laughed and let out a cough.

"Shit, is he okay?" Red asked.

"What happened?" Raven then asked.

Anthony grabbed a bottle of water from his backpack that was in the corner of the cave and passed it to Ian but he shook is head. Anthony shoved it into his hands and Ian sighed and began to drink from it. Anthony sits down and slumps against the wall and everyone else decides to sit down and rest for a minute.

"It wasn't just me and Ian." Anthony began to say. "We had Kalel... and Melanie with us. It was on,y a couple days ago but the Glitcher's... They found us and attacked. Ian and I had been attempting to hunt when we came back to our small camp to find the girls trying to fight off the bastards..." Anthony paused and looked over at Ian.

Ian had gone very still at the mention of his girlfriend. He took in a deep breath, closing his eyes and exhaled and opened them again; giving Anthony a tired look and nodded, indicating for him to continue.

"We tried fighting them off as best as we could but then I saw them throw this.. Some of gas at the girls and they just dropped to the floor. They took them before we could do anything. We chased after them but then one of them-" Anthony was interrupted by Ian, who had finally spoken again.

"Then one of the mother f*ckers sliced at me and caught my side." He spat angrily. "Leaving me weak and bleeding and letting them get away." "...Then I managed to find this place and we've been shacked up here eve since." Anthony said.

"You can come back with us." I spoke up confidently suddenly, surprising the others and myself.

"What?" Katie said surprised.

"Marzia, you know these guys; can we trust them?" Krism asked.

Marzia nodded. Anthony smiled great fully at her.

"We have a large settlement not to far from here." Raven said.

"Food, water, shelter, a slowly building army defence..." Red said.

"And there's other people you know there." I smiled.

Anthony looked at Ian who just nodded. Anthony looked back at us, a new hope shining in his eyes.

"We'll go with you; Ian needs medical attention and it would be great to find a group to stay with." Anthony said.

"We used to have a group but they abandoned us." Ian said, sounding slightly pissed.

"Well we won't." Marzia said putting a hand on Anthony's shoulder.

"Sorry for holding that knife to your throat earlier." Anthony apologised sheepishly.

We were driving along in the vehicle we had taken and we were heading back to the Haven; we'd only been gone two days but I couldn't wait to see Cry, Ellie, James or Blu; and the other guys of course.

I turned from looking out the window, to look at Anthony who was sitting next to me.

"It's fine." I said. "I would have done the exact same. Thing if I was in your position."

Anthony seemed to relax as he smiled great fully at me. But then something occurred to me.

"We rescued a group not to long ago from Glitcher's, and now your girlfriends were taken..." I said. "So you have any idea what's going on?"

Anthony hesitated to speak but then he turned to look at Ian who still looked pale but he had began to speak.

"Our old group knew. They have this device... It's like a bug - like the beetle from The Mummy? Well, they use it to control humans. They seem to be collecting more and more humans; it could be for the final extermination or just to in-slave us." Ian said and gulped visibly. "They've probably done it to Mel..."

"And Kalel..." Anthony sighed.

"Hey," I said looking at the two. "We kind of know how to stop it. I had the bug as well not to long ago; they managed to cut it out of me."

"You had the bug?" Ian asked his eyes widening.

"It's gone now though!" I said.

"You didn't go back to your 'Haven' with it still in you did you?" Anthony asked warily.

"For a tiny bit yes... Why?" I asked, now slightly scared.

"F*ck..." Ian cursed.

"A girl from our last group... Her name was Chloe, I think?" Anthony said. "Once when she went out on a scouting mission and thought of a Glitcher but he managed to give her the Bug. The Bug has a tracker device in it."

"You've probably gone and lead the Glitchers to your Haven." Ian said.

Minx and Red turned round with their eyes wide. Raven quickly stepped on it and the car drove faster.

Soon the Haven came into view and I felt my stomach drop as I saw smoke appearing above it. We stopped at the gate and they quickly let us through. I quickly got out of the car and looked around shocked.

Some people were injured and there seemed to be blood - both red and a horrible slimish green - stained on the walls and floor. I spotted Felix and I ran towards him.

"Felix!" I yelled. "What happened?!"

"The Glitchers found us... They attacked us by surprise..." He said, still shaken up.

"Where are the others?" I asked.

"Bree!" I turned and saw Cry standing there.

He ran towards me and I met him half way as he hugged me tight. He was battered and dirty and there was a scratch on his mask.

"They... They took people..." Felix said. "They took Marzia..." He choked out.

"Felix... Who else did they take?" I asked scared, holding onto Cry.

"Some civilians, Mark, Nick, Russ..." Felix said, but there was some thing else.

"Felix, who else?" I asked.

"Ellie." Jamie said.

I turned and saw Jamie standing there with a distraught look on his face.

My eyes widened and I shook my head.

"They took Ellie, Bree." Jamie repeated.

"No!" I choked out in a sob.

I'm glad Cry was holding me as my legs collapsed underneath me as I sobbed. He fell to the floor with me, kneeling as he comforted me.

This was all my fault...
