Short Story #4: Tony and Marceline in High School Part 3

Marceline got home and slammed the front door behind her. She saw her father who was sleeping on the couch with a bottle of vodka in his hand. She sighed and took the bottle, covering it up then looked at her old man. He had been a complete mess from her birth, a crook, liar, horrible father and womanizer. Meanwhile their mother was somewhere in New York and only sent letters every few months or years.

The girl glanced at some bills on the coffee table and sighed, dropping fifty dollars on the table she was sure her father would spend on more drugs rather than bills. "Just overdose already..." she mumbled, running up the stairs. She walked into her and Lloyd's bedroom to be greeted by her twin talking with his best friend Scarlet on his cell. He smirked, waved and ignored her as she collapsed on her bed.

"So..." he said after hanging up. "You DO like Tony!"
"Fuck off." she said, throwing one of her boots at him.
"No need for hostility, my dear sister, I will hook you up."
Marceline simply turned her back to him, groaning. 'Why'd I have to kiss him?' she thought, touching her own lips in self-hatred.

...
Tony walked inside his bedroom, throwing down his bag and ripping off his hoodie. He turned on his side and stared at the now cracked screen of his iPhone. Lloyd's call popped up and he denied it, not wanting to be teased by his friend.

Another call popped up but this time it was Marceline's own...His heart started beating faster than ever and he blushed. "She doesn't even call me much..." he mumbled and pressed answer, sitting up. "H-hello...?"
"It's me, dick-head." Lloyd laughed.
"Ya' know, sometimes you act a lot like your sister, ya prick." Tony growled, his heart beat slowing down...Why had he gotten so excited in the first place?
"H-hello?" Lloyd mimicked. "You sounded so hung up to talk to her just now!"
"Shut up...And why are you calling from HER phone?"

"'Cuz you ignored my call, so I decided her's would make you jump and hey, it worked!"
"What do you want, already?!"
"A date."
Tony blinked. "Eh? Lloyd I don't steer that way."
"Not with me, dumbass, my sister," Lloyd laughed. "But I'm offended, I'm not cute enough or blonde enough for ya'?"
"Nah, I don't go for anything with a penis."

"Sure, sure...But anyway, date with my sis on Saturday at noon."
"Can't, I got practice for the Music Fair that day." Tony said, reminded he hadn't even written a song to practice yet.
"And how long will that be?"
"Two hours or so,"
"Good," Lloyd piped up. "date at three-thirty, I'll make sure she meets you at the mall!"

"Dude, w-"
Lloyd hung up.
Tony threw himself back onto his bed and stared at the roof. "Idiot..."

...
"What are you doing with my phone!?" Marceline shouted, as her brother jumped off their garage roof after hanging up.
"Nothing, I mistook it for mine, we both have green cases after all."
"Mine has a black rose, yours has black skulls, big difference, idiot." she turned around and started walking away.
Lloyd smirked. "By the way, Tony called. He said to meet him at the mall on Saturday at half past three."
Marceline stopped and glared at her twin. "You're lying."

"Why should I lie?" he shrugged.
She raised a brow as he walked off.

...
Even if she wasn't invited, Demi showed up to practice at Tony's house. "How'd she know about this?" Scarlet whispered to her brother who was setting up his drum kit in the garage.
"I don't know," he shrugged, irritated. All week Demi had been annoying him with calls, forced lunches at her reserved cafeteria table and showing him as her "boyfriend" to her friends.

Jayleene sighed, adjusting the microphone in front of her. "Ignore her, but is Angel coming?"
"No idea, I didn't see her yesterday." Scarlet said.
"Neither did I, Marceline wasn't around either." Tony mentioned. He was "supposed" to have a date with the girl later, but he had his doubts about going.
Suddenly Angel appeared, walking in the open garage with her guitar case on her back.
She silently started setting up, not saying anything to the other three. Demi glared at the girl in purple. "What are you doing here?"
"Demi, I seriously prefer not to beat a bitch up today, I'm tired and just wanna' leave after practice." Angel said, barely looking at the girl before her.

"Tired from what? Lying on your back while Zane Julien 'pumping' you?" the girl giggled. Angel ignored her and continued setting up. "I mean, why is he with you? I imagine the only thing you two can do is fu-"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Angel whipped around. She pulled out her pocket knife and pointed it at Demi's heart. "I WILL cut you."
"Hey, hey, hey..." Tony yanked the knife from Angel's hand. "Stop now, no fighting."
"Yeah, there's no need.." Scarlet said, taking the knife and putting it on a nearby shelf.

Jayleene simply stood in front of the mic. 'Demi started it...' she thought. She know everyone else thought the same. Angel just sighed and went to pick her guitar. "Let's just start..." Jayleene said, looking over a song sheet Tony gave her earlier.
Before starting, Tony looked at his phone for any indication him and Marceline would actually meet at the mall. He sent a text: "Three thirty? :)?" and put away the phone.

...
Marceline looked at her cell as she put on her clothes.
"Three thirty? :)?" was a text from Tony, that made her jump.
Lloyd was actually telling the truth...She replied a quick yes before pulling on her shorts.

...
Tony walked into the huge shopping mall, and made his way to the front of the main fountain in the cafe area. He wasn't sure which entrance she would use but every entrance on the first floor led to this area.
Marceline replied yes, but then again he was afraid it was Lloyd using her phone again.
He at an empty table near the fountain and waited patiently.
'Did I dress okay?' he thought. He was in a brown t-shirt saying 'Smash Mouth' and black jeans. It wasn't like it was his first date with a girl but still...

He tapped his foot and looked at his watch. It was approaching three-thirty five. The boy glanced around and saw no sign of her. He contemplated leaving before a hand touched his shoulder and he turned around.

Marceline was in a dark green t-shirt, black shorts, and green sneakers with her usual two spiked bracelets and ear piercings. "Hi," she said, sitting beside him.
"Hey..." he shook when her blue eyes ran over him. Tony's cell went off and he clumsily took it out to answer it.
"Hello...?"
"Where are you? We need to go shopping for your Music Fair outfit!" Demi exclaimed through the phone.
"I cant I'm-" he grabbed Marceline's hand under the table. "on a date..." he hung up, before Demi could yell and turned off his cellphone.
"So..." he breathed, putting his phone on the table. "I'm guessing...that...your crush was..."

"Don't talk about that." she sighed. "Not yet, dude."
"How come?"
"Let's go to the arcade..." she smiled, ignoring his question.

Marceline sighed again as she followed behind Tony to the arcade.

...
"That was fun, let's do it again, huh?" Tony said as Marceline got on her bike.
"Sure," she shrugged, smiling.

He rubbed the back of his neck. "But we have to talk about your crush...soon..."
Her smile disappeared. "No...now is good...I guess..."
She got off her bike and walked with him to a nearby bench.
"So..." he began. "How long?"
"A couple months." he heard a pang of untruth in her voice.
There was silence for a while... "It's been more than just a couple months hasn't it?"
"Since freshman year,"
"Marce, we're almost in the middle of our senior year..."
"Yup..." she shrugged.

"I didn't think-"
"I hid it well up until now." she cut him off. "But Demi she's...been around lately."
Tony sighed at the mention of Demi. "She's not anything to me, I'm sorry I didn't notice."
Marceline looked at him and tensed when he moved closer and made their foreheads touch. "Sorry I didn't say anything..."
He hugged her tight and kissed her in silence.
