Chapter 22
"Everybody move back!" "Holy Merlin. What happened to these two?" "Were they fighting again?" "Rose! Rose" "Professor! Is Rose Okay?" "What did the Malfoy do to her" "I said everybody stay back!"
Scorpius felt his head being lifted up by a frail hand. He opened his eyes to see two oval shaped glasses hanging from the face of a frail but very cross looking woman.
"Mr Malfoy! Mr Malfoy. Can you hear me?" he heard.
Scorpius slowly opened his eyes wide and tried to sit up straight. His head was still hurting from the impact of the portal. He looked down upon himself and saw that he was wearing his school robes again.
"What in heavens were you two doing up here?" yelled Mcgonagall.
As soon as he heard "you two" , he jerked upright to look for Rose. He saw that she was also slowly waking up surrounded by her cousins and a Ministry Official.
"Is. Is she okay?" he asked sounding worried and looking over at Rose.
"Well I cannot say for sure until I know what you two were doing up here. Alright! Lets get these two to the hospital wing.
Scorpius felt himself being lifted up by magic and saw Rose being lifted up as well. They were placed on a stretcher which Mcgonagall was levitating herself. They were taken to the hospital wing of the Ministry within a matter of a few minutes.
Once they were in the hospital and heard everyone leave to get their respective parents, Scorpius lifted his head painfully and looked over at Rose.
"Are you okay?" he said slowly rubbing his head.
No response.
"Rose! Are you Okay?" asked a concerned Scorpius once more.
"Don't you dare talk to me Malfoy! I don't remember what you did to me, but I can barely feel my arms. I swear I will get you for this"
Scorpius slowly lifted his head up entirely. He could still only see a sliver of Rose's bed. And the rest of the surrounding was still blurry.
"I am sorry Rose. I didn't mean to pull you into it like that. But I just had to get the two of us out of there. It was our only chance to come back"
"What the hell are you talking about Malfoy? Come back from where? Are you trying to screw with my head, like you usually do? Well I am not letting you do that this time. Wait till my Dad gets here. I swear he's going to…"
The doors of the hospital wing sprang open. Scorpius could hear a rush of hurried footsteps all towards Rose. He could also hear a sole pair of footsteps moving towards his own bed.
"Scorpius. Son. What happened? I only just heard" he heard his father shout.
Over at Rose's bed he heard more vocal outbursts of sympathetic enquiries. It seemed all her relatives who worked at the Ministry was by her bedside.
"I am fine dad. I just.. Had an accident.."
Scorpius saw his father's face clench tight
"Was it the Weasley? Tell me son. Did she do this to you?" yelled his father.
"No Father. It was my fault. My own spell misfired. She didn't do anything." replied Scorpius instantly.
He could tell that his father had doubts believing what he said. But before he could argue with his son, he heard a voice roar from the other side of the room.
"Malfoy! What has your son done to my daughter? I want an explanation now!"
Scorpius saw his father rise from his bed side. He saw the two wizards move close to each other
"Ron. Ron not here. Not like this!" yelled Rose's mother from the side.
"Keep quiet Hermione! This has been going on for far too long. We need to resolve this right now!" yelled Ron Weasley.
Scorpius looked over at Rose and saw her clearly for the first time since coming back. She was looking pale and tense and Scorpius's chest filled with affection for the red haired witch.
Just when it looked like a wizard duel was going to break out in the hospital, Scorpius painfully stood up from his bed and interrupted the two.
"Mr Weasley. I am terribly sorry. It is my fault. I admit. I was.. foolish. Wasn't thinking clearly. I am deeply sorry and I promise you that I wont do anything of the sort ever again."
Scorpius didn't dare look at his father who he knew was probably more angry at him, now that he apologized to the Weasley. Draco turned around and left at once without looking at Scorpius.
Everyone including Rose was still looking at Scorpius rather suspiciously. They didn't know whether to believe him or whether this was an act. Finally they decided it was best to drop the matter and went back to attending to Rose, who was looking at Scorpius in the most peculiar fashion.
Scorpius went back to his head and closed his eyes. He vaguely remembered hearing Ron Weasley's "he better stay away from my daughter if he knows whats best for him"
When Scorpius woke up a few hours later, he found that Rose wasn't in the infirmary. After inquiring with the nurse he found that she was discharged a few hours earlier.
Scorpius on the other hand had injured himself more in the process. Somehow he felt it had something to do with the fact that he had performed weaker magic at Irwin's house.
Irwin. Ah it seemed like only yesterday. The thought of Irwin immediately brought back memories of a dead Roslyn lyng in the arms of her bawling father. The thought of it made him more sick, so he went back to sleep
It had been three weeks since they time traveled back from the past. Scorpius was back to attending classes. He found out from his friends that Rose had started attending classes two weeks earlier. He couldn't wait to meet up with her and discuss what they had been through. But he found it increasingly difficult to meet her alone, since she was always flanked by her cousins or her friends. It was obvious that they were afraid Scorpius would try and pull a stunt and harm her again.
So Scorpius, tired with having to find a way to meet Rose alone, devised a plan. He would pay one of her classmates off to do his bidding. He would ask him to somehow keep her in the class after everyone left allowing him to go in and speak with her alone.
Rose was leaving the class room behind everyone else when Scorpio jumped right in front of her.
Rose took a step back in surprise
"Malfoy! What the hell are you doing? Are you trying to mess with me again?" shrieked Rose.
"No. Certainly not Rose. I just wanted to talk to you." replied Scorpius gently.
"Talk to me? About what?" asked Rose suspiciously.
"About what we went through. With Roslyn, Irwin and the whole lot"
Rose looked at Scorpius as though he was crazy.
"What in the name of Merlin are you talking about? Who is Roslyn and Irwin? Have you gone cuckoo? Or is this one of your pranks to get me in trouble again?"
Scorpius was baffled by Rose's response. Why was she acting like she didn't know any of those people?
"Rose. You. You don't remember?"
"Remember what? " replied Rose sounding a bit nervous.
"We went back in time. To the 17th century. We stayed at a wizards house? Irwin Lancelot. You don't remember his daughter , Roslyn? Or what about William. William Galehaut?"
Rose was now looking concerned. She gently took out her wand in case Scorpius was planning something.
"Malfoy. I don't know what this is. But its not funny. "
"Rose! I am not kidding. Remember we crossed over the veil and then you turned the time turners back and being burnt at the stake and then rescued..we… don't you remember any of that?" asked Scorpius desperately
"No. I remember distinctly well that I got knocked over by your spell and lost consciousness for a short time. And I am sure I would have remembered if I had been to the 17th century"
Scorpius was lost for words and didn't know how to reply.
"Why don't you try your pranks on someone else Malfoy. Like that dumb girlfriend of yours" shrieked Rose and left Scorpius looking distraught.
She remembered none of it. Their fights, their moments of peace, the laughs they shared, the way they had come to tolerate each other, even their brief moment of sexual tension. None of it. She had gone back to hating him.
Scorpius felt like all the wind in his body had been knocked out. He knew there was no chance with her again. They were back in the real world now. The world with all the stereotypes and prejudices. The world where they were back to being a Malfoy and a Weasley.
