Through the silence, music could be heard. Both boys laying lazily on the couch perked up. "Do you hear the-"
"Ice-cream truck!" Clay finished.
The boys headed for the door and slipped on their brown and green sandals. They ran towards that familiar song. Suddenly, they turned the corner and they spotted the flashy white truck.
"Wait up!" Apollo called.
The truck haulted at a stop sign, and the boys caught up. The driver looked to the left and spotted the two kids standing there. He leaned over the wide door. "What can I get you two today?"
"I'll have a Rocket Pop!" Clay said.
"Uh, I'll just have a snow cone."
They paid the man as he grabbed their orders from the back. "Here you are!" he said as he handed them what they paid for. "Good luck with the heat today!"
Clay giggled as he waved to the man. "You too!"
The boys began walking back to Clay's house. "We're a little far, don't you think?"
"Huh? Oh, I guess. Do you just wanna eat these outside or somethin'?"
Apollo gave a nod. Clay plopped down onto the side walk. Apollo did the same.
"I'm gonna destroy you in the Steel Samurai game when we get back!" Clay giggled.
Apollo took a loud bite from his snow cone.
"Hey, man. What's wrong? You've been really quiet since the start of break." Clay questioned.
Apollo shook his head. "It's nothing. I'm fine, really." He looked up from the pavement and smiled.
They finished their frozen treats and started to head back to Clay's house. It felt like it was getting hotter by the minute outside. The boys finally arrived at Clay's beautiful, air-conditioned, home.
Apollo slipped his sandals off at the door as Clay put his sandals next to his. They jumped onto the couch and turned their video game back on. Clay giggled uncontrollably when he lowered his opponent's HP bit by bit.
Clay shouted as he gave him the final blow. "Take that!" he yelled.
Apollo gave a snap to his fingers. "Darn."
They both began to giggle loudly.
After a few minutes of making offensive jokes, Apollo stood up from the sofa. "I gotta go. Sorry!"
"Wait! Can't you stay? You can sleep over! We have an extra bed!"
Apollo looked back at his friend. "Are you sure?"
Clay nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! Of course! C'mon, man!"
Apollo stepped away from the door. "Alright!" he grinned.
Clay grinned just as wide as Apollo.
