Saph blindly stumbled into her room and shut the door behind her. She walked over to the small mirror that hung in her bathroom. She was startled to realize that the bloodied, beat up girl that stared back at her was indeed herself. Two bruises had formed on each of her cheeks and a long red cut slashed across her right cheek. Drops of blood had dried under the wound and some had dripped down her neck. Here green eyes were still puffy and red from crying. Damn I look awful Saph sighed and dipped a small towel in water to clean the injury. She winced in pain as the pressure of the towel wiping away the blood on her face stung. Without warning, Saph heard the door to her room creak open.
"Hey Saph? Are you in here?" Minx's voice echoed from the other room.
"We just wanted to see if you were ok." She heard Marzia's voice from the other room as well. Shit! I can't let them see me like this! Saph scurried and slammed the bathroom door shut. Minx knocked on the door.
"Sorry to bother you but we just wanted to see if you're alright."
"I-I'm fine" Saph weakly stuttered.
"Are you sure, you don't sound so good" Marzia's voice was filled with concern. Well if I say that I'm fine now then they're going to think something is up. Saph sighed.
"If I show you guys, then do you promise to not say anything?" Saph asked from behind the door. Minx and Marzia looked to each other suspiciously.
"Of course we promise." Marzia finally let out and the door slowly opened to reveal Saph. Both of them gasped in horror at the bruises on her face and especially the gruesome-looking cut on her cheek.
"Oh my God what happened?!" Minx rushed towards Saph to get a better look at her injuries.
"Rex tried to get revenge on me for beating him up that one time. But Mark came and saved me! I'm fine now." Saph weakly smiled.
"Are you sure?" Minx asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Mark saved me before anything really bad happened."
"Oh thank goodness! Soooo… what happened afterwards?" Marzia asked. She wanted to know if Mark had finally made a move on his crush without directly giving him away.
"Well…um…we kissed." Saph smiled and nervously scratched the back of her head. Both of the other girl's mouths dropped open in surprise.
"REALLY?" Saph blushed and looked down at the floor.
"Yeah…" she giggled.
"Congrats! So are you two a thing now?" Minx laughed.
"I don't know. He didn't actually ask me out…" Saph didn't know a lot about relationships, since she's never been in one.
"Well he probably is going to soon. Oh look at the time! We should leave you alone to get some sleep. Hope you feel better! Bye!" Both of the girls walked towards the door to leave.
"Wait…promise you guys won't tell anyone about this?" Saph called to them.
"We promise" Minx exclaimed and both of them left the room.
(Back in Mark's dorm)
Mark silently pushed the door to his room open, being sure not to wake up Yami or Cry. He tiptoed over to the bathroom and shut the door behind him. When he turned around, Mark noticed that he had a small bruise on his right cheek and some blood from Saph's cut had rubbed off on his neck. He grabbed a wet towel and wiped the dried blood off. Mark stared at the now red-tainted towel. Man I hope she's ok. He suddenly had the urge to sneeze and his eyes squinted closed. Mark let out a sneeze and when he opened his eyes, he found that the entire bathroom had grown astronomically. Mark looked down to find two tiny paws and he had acquired a long, skinny tail. What the fuck?! Why am I a mouse? Ok, last time when you relaxed, you turned back into you're human form.
He took a deep breath and slowly he transformed back into a human. Mark looked down at his now normal hands and back up to his reflection in the mirror. So does this mean that I'm…a morph? The question had been circulating in the back of his mind but it only now surfaced. Morphs were the most rare and dangerous class of S7s, but it's the only explanation for what happened. He knew that his gift wasn't similar to Ken's because he remained in complete control. Mark rubbed his forehead. I'll just talk to Saph about it tomorrow. His heart skipped a beat just at the thought of her name. Saph…likes me back! In fact…she loves me back! A wide smile crept upon Mark's face as he jumped into his bed. He licked his lips before slipping into sleep. Damn she's a good kisser.
(Next morning in Saph's dorm)
Saph stretched and yawned as she made her way to her bathroom. As she stared into the mirror she noticed that her bruises have almost completely disappeared, but the large cut was still clearly visible (Though all the blood was gone). I guess I'll just tell everyone that I tripped and fell on something. Saph wasn't entirely comfortable with telling everyone the truth because they probably would try and get revenge or start a ruckus like that. With everything that's going on she just didn't feel like dealing with that. Saph had recently been swamped with trying to figure out who is behind the mass kidnapping and searching around for rumors about a secret organization. She splashed cold water from the sink on her face to help wake her up. Then, the recollection of the events that took place the night before came crashing upon her. So…Mark must be a morph! It's the only way to explain what happened. If his gift were similar to Ken's he would have lost control and possibly attacked me. So… now both Ken and Mark have their powers, I need to talk to Ms. Wattman about that. Especially since Mark is the only other morph in existence. Saph smiled to herself when her thoughts roamed to their kiss last night. So Mark really is a sweetheart after all. Saph continued to prepare for the day like it was just like any other. I hope Marzia and Minx kept their promise to keep their mouths shut she thought as she put on a green creeper hoodie and headed out the door.
(Ms. Wattman's office)
Saph stared uneasily at the door to Ms. Wattman's office for an instant before taking a deep breath and pushing in. Most people would knock on the principle's door, but Saph never did because Ms. Wattman was like a mother to her and they've known each other for so long.
"Sue?" She called to grab the attention of the principle that was looking over paperwork at her desk. Calling Ms. Wattman by her first name was another perk of knowing her for such a long time.
"Oh come in! I was just looking over some old records." Ms. Wattman motioned for Saph to enter and sit down in the chair in front of her desk.
"I have two more reports of students receiving their powers." Saph patiently waited as Ms. Wattman grabbed her clipboard. The principle kept a record of all of the students who received their gifts in her journal. Saph continued when she was ready to write down what she was about to report.
"Ken was the first of the two to receive his power last night."
"And what is his gift?"
"Werebear" Ms. Wattman paused for a moment, deep concern flashed across her face.
"Is he ok?"
"Yeah he's fine, everyone is fine. We all just want him to get a tutor so that he keeps that side of him under control." Saph bluntly explained, Ms. Wattman could tell that something was wrong but continued to question.
"And who was the second one to receive their gift?"
"Mark" Saph quickly stated but said nothing else.
"What is his gift?" Ms. Wattman asked and Saph inhaled deeply before responding.
"He…is… a morph" Only the cold ticking of the clock disturbed the silence between the two. The pen that was previously in Ms. Wattman's hand fell to the ground and landed with a small clink on the ground.
"He… is a morph?" Ms. Wattman stared back at Saph in disbelief.
"Yes he received his powers last night too." Saph purposely left out the part about Mark saving her from Rex. Ms. Wattman's eyes suddenly fell upon the cut on her cheek.
"Did he do that to you?" Her eyes seemed to be asking Saph to be honest with her.
"Of course not! I tripped this morning and fell on the corner of my desk." Saph was surprised that she would even think that Mark would hurt her on purpose.
"So now you're not the only morph in existence! Well that means that you'll be his tutor, no one else would be as well skilled as you." Ms. Wattman smiled back at Saph. She knew that she has been alone for almost her entire life and now she has someone just like her. She had also noticed that Saph had taking a special liking to Mark. Ms. Wattman didn't know how far that liking went but as long as Mark didn't hurt Saph then she was fine with it.
Saph smiled to herself at the thought of being Mark's tutor. There would be plenty of time to talk and just hang out without everyone else being present. She could imagine it already.
"Well, I'll be going then…" Saph began to get up out of her chair, before Ms. Wattman stopped her.
"Wait…I have to tell you something. There has been another kidnapping" Saph's mouth dropped open in surprise.
"Really? How is this possible? How are they taking innocent children right under our noses?!" At this point Saph was pacing back and forth in frustration. "I guess I'll just do more snooping around. There's nothing else we can do at this point." Saph sighed in agitation and stomped out of the room.
(In the Center Courtyard)
All of the Youtubers were laughing and joking casually around the huge panther statue that sat in the middle of the center courtyard. Well, almost all of them. Mark was sitting on the edge of the pedestal, his feet tapping nervously. He wanted, no needed to talk to Saph about what happened last night. Either about becoming a morph or the kiss, it didn't matter to him. He just needed to see her. Mark noticed Ken slowly approaching; his face was blank and unreadable.
"Hey Ken, are you ok buddy?" Jerome was the first to acknowledge him.
"Yeah, I'm fine for now. I just really want to start with my new tutor. I'm supposed to meet him in a little bit in the library, but I got some time to kill." Ken grinned weakly to show that he was indeed fine. Mark nodded and let his friend sit next to him on the edge of the pedestal. The Team Crafted dudes were all chasing each other and laughing around the statue like little children would. Mitch had an unfair advantage because he was unusually fast and agile, but that just made the game that much more interesting. Jerome seemed to have completely healed from the injury last night from the way that he acted. Pewds, Marzia, and Minx were quietly talking and giggling among themselves. It seemed that Cry was sitting crisscross all alone in a small patch of grass that had a small dandelion in the middle of it. He seemed to be concentrating hard on the small flower. He must be trying to use his force field power. Alongside Cry's ability to render himself completely invisible, he could also create force fields. But the latter was much more difficult for him to perform. Then, Mark observed Yami slowly walking over to Cry and he sat down next to him on the green patch. Yami seemed to say something to Cry before he focused back on the small yellow flower. Before he knew it, a glassy, nearly invisible orb surrounded the plant and the two turned to each other and smiled. Mark chuckled lightly to himself; it was good that Cry was becoming more sociable.
Suddenly, Mark felt a small hand grip his left shoulder and he flinched in surprise. Turning towards the hand he saw that it belonged to Saph, whose face was drenched with nervousness and frustration.
"I need to talk to you Mark." Was all she said, her hand still rested on his shoulder. He nodded and followed her around the back of the classroom building. Saph turned to face him with her back to the wall. The still visible scar on her face was a horrible reminder of how he couldn't save her quickly enough. If he had tried harder, he thought that he could have gotten her out of there before Rex started torturing her. He never should've let her go alone. Mark felt that he owed Saph much more than what he had to offer. She had showed him unwavering kindness ever since he arrived at the school. He had a debt that he could possibly never repay, buy he would try to anyway.
"I need to talk to yo-" Saph began before Mark gently pushed her up against the wall. He leaned in and kissed her deeply. She was initially surprised and taken aback by this gesture but she soon began to kiss him back. Her arms wrapped loosely around his neck and pulled them closer together. Their lips danced around each other for what seemed like an eternity. Soon they separated for air and they stood their silent, staring into each other's eyes.
"Well, go on" Mark chuckled and Saph continued with what she was saying.
"I needed to talk to you about your powers. You are the only other morph in existence other than me after all. So that means that I'll get to be your tutor" Saph smiled back at him.
"That's great!" Mark beamed back at her. He was thrilled to get his love as his teacher as well. It would be nice to have an excuse to spend more time alone together. Soon, both of them couldn't even to begin to imagine being lonely again. They pulled away from each other and walked to the library, hand-in-hand.
So sorry that it took FOREVER to write this chapter. I had a serious case of writers block…and tons of schoolwork as always. But your suggestions are helping me out so much! I generally know how this story is going to end, but help from you guys will shape a better picture of the story! If anyone was wondering, Ken's power is not linked to the moon like a werewolf. I just thought that the werebear name sounded catchy :P. Anyway, don't forget that it may take me a little while to get these next few chapters out. But I am not giving up on this story! I love it too much, and I hope you guys do too. Leave any suggestions or comments for me if you have them! Thanks a bunch! Bye!
