A/N: I apologise profusely for the long wait. I had hit a bit of writer's block, and right when I finally had the chance to write, my computer broke down. I only just got it back. Please enjoy!

The two week period that Bryce had given Amy, flew by quickly. In that time though, Amy had started to make real progress. Ty always waited outside with Amy, as she worked with Midnight Lightning. Each day that Amy made the slightest bit of progress with the horse, Ty could see the light in her eyes grow just a bit brighter. It was something that he noticed rather quickly once he had woken from his coma. The light that always shone in her eyes had dimmed greatly, and Ty was able to realize why quickly. The joy that Amy felt in her life wasn't there if she wasn't working with horses. She loved helping the animals overcome their physical and emotional burdens, and not being able to do so had darkened her heart a little bit. Ty was definitely happy to see the light shining in her eyes again, even if it wasn't as bright as it used to be.

"Hey," Amy called, as she jumped off of Midnight Lightning's back and walked over toward the wooden poles that boxed in the round pen.

"You're doing great, Amy." Ty offered her a smile, as he wheeled as close as he could to the pen.

Amy smiled softly, before pulling herself up to sit on the top log of the round pen. "Are you forgetting something?" She asked, her eyebrows quirking slightly.

Ty shook his head, even as a tiny smile pulled at the edge of his lips. "I don't think so."

"Ty!" Amy sighed. "You have a physical therapy and a doctor's appointment today."

Ty nodded, he knew what appointment's he had, but he really wanted Amy to attend both appointments with him. "I rescheduled for a little later in the day, so that you could come with me. If that's alright?"

Amy chuckled, before jumping down to stand in front of him. "Of course that's alright. You could have just told me that you wanted me to come last night, ya know."

Ty nodded, as he pulled Amy down onto his lap. He peered into her ocean blue eyes. "I know, I just knew that you'd be busy with Midnight Lightning today."

Amy shook her head, "I could have just worked with him after your appointment. So, what time did you reschedule for?"

Ty looked down at his watch, "Two-thirty."

Amy nodded, "Alright. I'm just going to work with him for about a half hour longer and then we'll have lunch. Why don't you go see what Lou is cooking up?"

Ty smiled, before kissing Amy's lips. "You had me at food, Miss Fleming."

"I figured that I did." Amy chuckled, before standing up. She wasn't sure she would ever be able to get used to the feelings that bubbled up inside her whenever she was around Ty, and part of her wasn't sure that she wanted to. Getting used to having something, meant hurting badly if it ever disappeared and Amy was almost certain that she wouldn't be able to move on if something ever happened to Ty again – or worse, if he ever chose to leave on his own, again.

Amy stood, her back against the wall, as Ty's chair was set up in between the two metal bars. They had slowly worked Ty from merely attempting to get out of his chair on his own, to trying to stand up. Amy was proud of the progress that Ty had been making, and the doctor had been adamant that Ty would be up on his own two feet sooner rather than later. All the positive news mixed with the start of their relationship had put Ty in a much better mood the past couple of weeks, All the positive news mixed with the start of their relationship had put Ty in a much better mood the past couple of weeks.

"Miss Fleming, Ty would love it if you'd join us over here. He'd like for you to understand his therapy for the day."

Amy nodded, before pushing herself up off the wall and moved toward the area where Ty was set up. "Alright." Amy smiled, before putting a hand on Ty's shoulder.

"Last week I had Ty working on trying to stand up from his chair. We usually try that for a day or two, depending on the process that the patient makes, we either go backward a step or we go forward a step. Ty made great strides last week, with standing up from his chair, so this week we're going to amp it up a little bit for him. I spoke with his doctor earlier this week and we agree that it's time that Ty attempts to walk. The bars here will help keep him balanced and will generally help stop him from falling. I like to walk along side the patient in the first couple of attempts to see how will they adjust to the weight on their legs."

Amy nodded, "That sounds great." She turned her attention to Ty, who was beaming at her. "Are you ready to try to walk?"

Ty shook his head, "I've been ready to try it for a long time. I'm ready to do it."

Amy chuckled, before taking a small step backward, so that Ty had adequate room to move. With his arms reached out, holding onto the bars in front of him tightly, Ty pulled himself upward and stood shakily on his legs for a moment. She watched as he adjusted his weight around from foot to foot for a moment, reacquainting his legs and feet with the feeling of weight on them.

"Whenever you're ready, Ty."

Ty gave his therapist a slight nod, before checking his grip on the bars. With a deep sigh, Ty drug one foot forward, before pulling the other one in to match the stride. With his second try, Ty's legs gave out, and his therapist, Trevor, caught his arm to keep him from crashing to the ground.

"Good try, Ty. Wanna go again, or do you need to rest?"

Ty shook his head, "Let's go again."

Amy could see from the face Ty was making that he was frustrated that he had almost fallen, but she couldn't be more proud of what he had accomplished. From the moment he had his accident, Amy wondered if he would ever walk again. Maybe because she hated to see him so miserable but she knew how badly he wanted it. Seeing him up on his feet, albeit, clumsily trying to walk, was so beautifully poetic to her that she felt like she could cry.

With another heavy sigh, Ty drug one foot than the other. He repeated the motion to the edge of the bars, before stopping and looking. She could see that he wasn't sure how to turn himself around and head back toward his wheelchair. She could also tell that his arms were shaking heavily, as the weight of his body rested hard against his arms. With a guiding hand, Trevor grabbed a hold of one of Ty's hands and turned it, so that it was turned in the opposite direction. Using the guidance, Ty barely managed to twist his body around, so that he was facing the correct way. Slowly, he attempted another step, before his legs and arms gave out from exhaustion.

"That was fantastic, Ty! Your doctor did say not to over do the walking today, so we're going to finish up with a little light weight lifting to get your legs back into shape. Then we'll set up an appointment for two days from now."

Amy was waiting for Ty, when he made it back to his chair. She knelt in front of him, her hands clutching his. "I am so proud of you." Tears glistened in her eyes as she spoke.

"I love you." Ty whispered softly, as he ran his thumb against Amy's cheek.

Amy sat in her grandfather's truck, as she eyed the dashboard clock. She knew that Ty shouldn't be much longer, so she climbed out of the front seat to wait for him. As she made her way around to the passenger side of the truck, she heard someone call out to her.

"Amy!" As Amy turned to see who had called out, she cringed. "How is he?"

Amy stared at the dark haired girl for a moment, her insecurities instantly started to claw their way at her. Deep down, Amy knew that Ty loved her, she had known that since before he left Heartland to find his father. That didn't mean that standing in front of his ex-girlfriend didn't cause her to falter momentarily. It didn't mean that Amy couldn't stop picturing Ty and Kit together. The way he laughed with her. It was like their relationship just came so easy. It wasn't like what Amy and Ty had, not in the least bit. They had to work at their relationship. Hell, they had to work at their friendship.

"He's just finishing up with his therapist. His doctor's adamant that he'll be walking in no time."

Kit smiled softly, but it faltered quickly. "Did he tell you that he didn't even have the decency to break up with me face to face. He called me and told me it was over."

Amy wasn't sure why, but Kit's words hit a chord with her. "You do realize that he can't really go anywhere without help, right? You realize that he's paralyzed?" Amy tried to keep her voice level.

"Yeah, I get that, but I could have picked him up."

Amy shook her head, "Yeah, and what – dump him on the side of the road after he broke up with you? I don't think so. Ty's had a rough few months. He needed to get himself in order before he could think about being in a relationship with anyone."

Kit laughed mirthlessly, "Oh, I get it now. He dumped me for you. I should've seen it coming. It's my fault really. Just – watch your back. I don't see him as a one woman kind of man."

Amy just stared at Kit, her mouth hanging open. Never once did she ever think Ty was the cheating type, and even after Kit said it, Amy didn't believe it. "If that's the case, Kit. Don't you think he would have been dating me, while he was still with you? Obviously, he had the decency to break things off with you before starting another relationship."

"Yeah, what did he wait, a day?"

Amy took a deep breath and let it out through her nose. "Actually, if you must know. We've only been together for a couple of weeks. He broke up with you almost three months ago."

Kit rolled her eyes, "I don't believe you." She said, before shoving Amy out of her way and storming off.

Amy lost her balance, and slipped backward onto someone.

"Are you okay?" Ty asked, concern lacing his voice, as he ran his fingers through Amy's hair.

Turning toward him, Amy buried her face into his chest. "She thinks you're a cheater, and I don't even want to think about what she is assuming about me."

Ty wrapped his arms around Amy's frame, and held her close to his chest. "Who cares what Kit thinks. She is just pissed and bitter that I broke up with her. Plus, after all the dust around our barely there relationship, she probably realized that I never cared about her like that. I mean, technically she was my girlfriend, but for me it was more the fact that she was a great friend. She was easy to talk to, and it just seemed easier than trying to fight Caleb for you. My heart never belonged to Kit, Amy. How could it, when it always belonged to you?"

Ty chuckled, as he moved his wheelchair forward. Amy smiled brightly, and shook her head. The doctor's visit had only brightened an almost dampened day, when Ty's doctor explained exactly what his first steps meant and how much longer of a recovery period that they were looking at.

"Can you believe that I could be out of this dumb chair and on my own two feet in a couple of months?"

"I'm going to be honest, Ty. After your accident, I wondered if it was a possibility or if the doctor was just giving us false hope, but now I'm just so excited and proud. You've worked hard to get yourself to where you are. That is something to be proud of, Ty."

"Yeah, making girls cry is something else to be proud of too, right?" A familiar voice boomed from the front porch.

Darkness was settling in, as the sun started its descent through the trees. Though Amy had trouble seeing his face, she knew exactly who the voice belonged to, and from the sounds of it, he sounded angry.

"What are you talking about, Caleb?" Amy questioned, as she took a step, to stand in front of Ty.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about, Amy. Hell, you're just as bad as he is. I told you, Ty. I told you if you hurt her, that I'd kick your ass. Well, now I've come to collect."

Amy took a step forward, "Caleb, you have no idea what you're talking about."

Caleb smirked, his eyes dark and dangerous. "Don't I? Kit came pounding on my door, sobbing, talking about how Ty broke her heart, practically cheated on her with you, Amy. It took me an hour to calm her down."

Amy sighed, "Like I told Kit. Her and Ty were long over with when me and Ty started dating. Ty didn't cheat on her."

"Doesn't matter, Amy. The man knew the price of dating a good friend of mine, I made it perfectly clear. Now it's time for him to pay up."

Amy stomped forward, anger in her eyes. "Are you really going to hit a man in a wheelchair, Caleb? Think about your friend Bryce. What would he think if you punched Ty?"

Caleb chuckled, "Oh, so you think you know Bryce just because you're helping him out with a horse? You don't know him, Amy, because he would agree with me. Nobody screws with your friends without punishment. Now, let the man take his punishment, Amy."

"Just let him do it, Amy. He's not going to leave until he gets what he came for."

Amy's face held a bit of determination, but slowly it started to wither away. She knew that Ty was right. Sighing heavily, Amy took one last step toward Caleb. "Just please, watch his back. He's making progress Caleb."

Caleb shrugged his shoulders, "I'll see what I can do." Caleb took three long strides forward, pulled his arm back and let it swing forward.

Ty cried out in pain, as his head whipped backward violently.

"Caleb!" Jack's deep voice hollered from the front porch.

Caleb turned around slowly, as Jack walked off the porch. His strides were long, and soon he was standing in front of Caleb.

"What in the hell do you think you're doing? You just punched a young man in a wheelchair. Someone who is trying to get himself right again. You could have screwed up all the progress that Ty has worked so hard for. You will apologize to Ty, and you better damn well pray that he accepts your apology."

Caleb held his head high, still certain he was in the right. "I will not apologize for sticking up for my friend."

Jack laughed mirthlessly, as he patted Caleb's shoulder hard. "Oh you will, if you ever want to step foot on this property again."

Caleb crossed his arms over his chest. "Well, maybe I don't want to step foot on this property again? Maybe I quit."

Jack nodded, "Alright. Fine. You go on then. Get in your truck, and get your ass off of my property. If I ever see you step foot on this driveway again, Ty better tell me that you apologized, and he accepted."

Caleb shook his head. "I don't need this damn job anyway." He mumbled as he turned to leave.

As Jack watched carefully as Caleb pulled out of the driveway and headed down the road, Amy turned her attention to Ty.

"Hey, you okay?"

Ty nodded softly, "Just a headache is all."

Amy's eyebrows wrinkled, "Well, maybe we should take you back to the doctor, just in case."

"I'm fine. I'm not that fragile, Amy. I can handle a punch to the face. Just need to ice it, and I'll be back to new."

Amy shared a look with Jack, that said she disagreed. Both of them knew that they weren't going to be able to force Ty to do anything that he didn't want to do, even if it was what was best for him.
