The Drabble Diaries

Disclaimer: I do not own Loveless. I was so excited for the series coming back I wrote this. Also, head-canon.

There was something more than allowing her to be his friend. He allowed Yayoi to be his friend (kind of) and he never paid that much attention to him. He never leant him books to read or went to his house for dinner. Ritsuka never worried when Yayoi wasn't at school (though that may be because it happened so often). And he definitively never had Yayoi working to improve his vocabulary and reading skills like he did Yuiko.
Natsuo and Youji were his friends, kinda. But he never would defend them the way he did Yuiko when the other girls in class picked on her. Anyone weak enough to be picked on deserved it, but somehow he couldn't help being her prince in shining armor. The Zeros never inspired that feeling, if anything they inspired the feeling of wanting to punch them.
Soubi wasn't really a friend. A servant maybe, or a stalker. His brother's friend far more than his own, Soubi fought with him, for him, but never did he feel the same ease he felt with Yuiko, the same safety. He spent more time with Soubi than was probably healthy, but it never seemed to fly by the way afternoons with Yuiko did.
Somehow, 'friend' didn't seem to encompass all he felt about Yuiko. He would have to improve his vocabulary.
