The floor was cold. A few scrabble tiles had fallen under the refrigerator, but Allen just stared at them. He had gotten up to eat some dry cereal, but had given up halfway through. His sleeping shirt was thin, and he could feel the tiles under his side and shoulder.
It was some time later before he saw a pair of feet enter the room out of the corner of his eye. They paused slightly before he heard a sigh.
"Allen..."
Allen went along with the arms lifting him to his feet. After making his way into one of the hard-backed chairs, he stared softly at his partner. It wasn't a smile, but he got the message anyway.
Kanda was pulling his long hair into a ponytail as he sat at the other chair. "Sit in a chair at least, not the floor. That's what they're there for."
"I know."
"Then follow my advice, idiot. I'm getting tired of picking you up off the floor."
Allen placed his head upon the tabletop. He didn't bother to use his arms to cushion his head.
"You eaten?" Kanda gestured to the cereal box and the empty bowl.
"No."
Allen vaguely watched as Kanda poured out two bowls. One was placed in front of him, milk splashing around the spoon at the motion. By the time he had started on his, Kanda was placing his own bowl in the sink.
"Kanda?"
"Hmm?"
"Thanks." The black haired boy only smiled before walking back out into the hall, ruffling Allen's hair as he went. Allen could almost feel a smile of his own as he returned to his cereal.
