Chapter 15

Fifteen seconds later I heard Jess screaming, " You're an asshole Nico!" "

What the hell is going on now because if they start fighting again they might just destroy the world. Nico yelled,

" Like you weren't thinking it Jess!"

" You know so much better than that, I can't believe I didn't see how much of an asshole you really are!"

" Well, I am sorry that I'm the one who always has to reveal their feelings!"

" I am not one who is always depressed."

" At least I know more than one swear word."

" THAT'S IT!"

I grabbed Luke by the hand and ran toward the sound of possible doom. Luke said,

" Why are you so god damned worried about those two?"

" Because I know that she might kill him."

" She won't get that far Ren."

We run into the room and see Jess on top of Nico with her fingers wrapped around his throat. Not to mention that he was turning blue. I looked over at Luke and said,

" Right. She won't get that far."

I went to go pry Jess' fingers off of his throat while Luke pulled him out from under her. Jess was really resisting against my hold and I said,

" What the hell is going on!"

Nico yelled,

" SHE IS A FUCKING PSYCHO! THAT IS WHAT IS GOING ON!"

She yelled back,

" NO HE IS A FUCKING PREF WITH NO THOUGHT PROCESS!"

I said to Luke,

" Take him upstairs. Now!"

" Good idea."

Luke dragged Nico upstairs and Jess started to calm down, a lot. I said,

" Jess what happened."

" He said that he wanted to know if I wanted to do "it" while we waited for you guys."

" Jess there is a better way to handle this than trying to kill the poor…"

" Bastard."

" Not what I was going to say."

" It works."

" Whatever, Jess you could have said no."

" I did but he kept pushing and pushing it."

I thought about this for a little while and decided that even though the guy creeps me out I know A: he wouldn't even consider asking Jess that. And B: if he did he wouldn't push it. I said,

" Jess you stay here and if I find you near Nico I will personally make one of your eyes black."

" Where are you going?"

" I am going to go talk to Luke."

" But…"

" Shut up. And stay."

I went downstairs to find Nico still coughing from the near death experience and Luke had the extremely I am confused face on. And it must be bad because Luke is pretty damn smart, hell smarter than me, and he being stumped scared me. I said,

" Luke come here."

Luke walked toward me and said,

" I don't get what is going on here."

" Why? What did he tell you?"

" He said that she just started randomly attacking him. And she kept coming at him with the weirdest look in her eyes ever."

" Did he say anything to her?"

" Nothing."

" Do you think he is lying?"

" No. Jess?"

" You know she wouldn't attack unless provoked."

" Two completely different stories that don't line up."

" Do you think that maybe Chaos is starting to " leach" on to this world. And he is starting to effect people?"

" If I had to say that is our best option to explain this."

" Well we can't spend all day on this. We have to go get dresses and tuxes for the ball tomorrow."

" How are we going to pay for that?"

" I am not the one with sticky fingers."

" Fine let's go."

I yelled,

" EVERYONE WE ARE GOING SHOPPING!"

We all pile out into the street and head for the mall. When got there I look indie a TV store and see my most recent photo (which was from my third grade yearbook shot) but beside it was a computerized older version of me and it was close but vague. I kept my head down until we got to the store. Jess went straight for the short black dresses. I have to say she has adopted her persona well. I had to go to the long full length white dresses. I grabbed a few, Jess grabbed a few and we went to the back to try them on Jess walked out in a knee high dress with one strap and a gold belt. She said,

" Luke what do you think?"

Clearly she was trying to ignore Nico to the best of her ability. Luke said,

" It looks good. Is it good enough for you?"

" It is."

Well she got that over with fairly quick. The first dress I came out in a ball gown. It was strapless and had a lot of glitter. An d let me Just say that wasn't go to fly with anyone not even Luke who liked me in everything. It took about six tries before I found something, which was a strapless greek goddess style dress with a silver belt. So shopping was relatively quick in my mind and Luke got it for the nice price $0, that includes these masks and tuxes. We went back to the ware house and I said,

" Guys we better go to sleep early, because we will go through a lot tomorrow."

Jess and Nico went to separate levels. Luke said to me after they left,

" It's been one of those days hasn't it?"

" I guess. I mean we weren't almost killed."

" Just almost caught."

" Well, I better get to bed."

I headed off to bed, changed and lied down on the stone cold floor. I can feel sleep approaching me but I also feel someone approaching me. I could tell it was Luke and I could tell that he need something. He lied down next to me and didn't say anything. I turn onto my other shoulder so that I was facing him. I said,

" What is wrong Luke?"

Nothing.

" Luke you can talk to me."

" I just. I just don't think I can manage to be alone right now. Maybe even ever."

" You aren't and you don't have to be."

" I am just afraid that maybe when I wake up tomorrow I will find that you are gone."

" You know I won't do that."

" Yes, you would if it met protecting me, or Jess, or Nico. Because yo try to take on everyone's pain."

" Well, I won't disappear tonight."

" I am not just worried about tonight."

" Luke you only have to worry about now because that is what counts."

I reach over to his lips and his him softly. I can feel his tight lips loosen ever so slightly, barely enough for mine. I can feel all the concern he has for me in that one kiss. I pull away, place one hand on his cheek. And I stare into his eyes, and keeping staring into what I believe is his soul. I small smile came across his face but it was sad, because he knew that I would run if it met saving him. I guess that is one of the things he loves about is my ability to sacrifice. He said,

" Can we just stay here like this?"

" Yeah."

We both closed our eyes. He placed his free hand on my waist and mine still o his cheek. Before I drifted completely away he whispered,

" I love you."

I whispered,

" I love you too."

" I love you more than you will never know."

And then I was completely out.
