The brunette calmly looked up into the slim, ever familiar, calculating gaze. The signature fedora was perched as usual as the suit clad Arcobaleno introduced himself to the two Siblings.
Everything had gone as before, except the fact that Reborn wasn't a baby.
He still had a yellow a pacifier hanging around his neck, which Ieyasu had the idiocy to comment on. Tsina had found out they both had failing grades, not really surprising, when an adult Reborn stepped in.
The 2 year old was mysterious, cute and sadistic.
The 15 year old was charming, stupefying and evil.
The 28 year old was handsome, dangerous and down-right demonic.
Ieyasu was on edge by the deadly aura around Reborn, standing before Tsuna. The brunette was slightly shaking, but only from the sheer amount of emotions flooding his body. The blonde, however was too focused on the hitman and Reborn assumed it was out of fear. He was only asked to tutor the younger one.
"Chaos, I'm Reborn. The World's Greatest Hitman, and now your tutor, Sawada Ieyasu."
Those familiar words almost hurt, but Tsuna realized that he had to get going before an old friend 'bit him to death.'
Tsuna almost smiled, but realized if Reborn was able to tell why, he'd probably take him for a masochist. Sighing, he decided to go with it. "Hello, Reborn-san. I'm Ieyasu's older brother, Tsunayoshi. You can call me Tsuna."
The hitman raised an elegant brow at the brunette. If that idiot, Iemitsu's description was any bit accurate, the older one should be quaking in his boots, but he had only shook slightly, almost unnoticably, for a few seconds.
His voice was surprisingly composed, and his chocolate eyes, although wide, were narrowed and filled with, what was the word, understanding? Knowing? Reborn didn't know. He only knew he couldn't read the little brunette with such a calm air.
"But if you excuse us," he said suddenly, "My brother and I have to get to school before Kyo-Hibari-san bites us to death."
Ieyasu paled at that, and followed Tsuna out the door. The rumors of Kyoya's merciless ways stretched far and wide.
That kid, Reborn thought, would be a great addition to the family. Both of them.
The raven couldn't help but smirk at the thought. Of course, now that they've done the worst thing possible, interest him, they'll be subject to his 'affections'.
00000000
Tsuna was fully aware of the hitman following them. He had to be extra careful not to do anything suspicious. Which was pretty easy, considering he was too out of breath to do anything. His wounded and out of shape body was not helping much.
The brunette could only hope Ieyasu, and especially Reborn, wouldn't notice the injuries.
The skies were clear, with only a few clouds drifting by. It make him smile slightly, but sadness and despair were etched deep into his face, no matter how much skill he had at mask making or experience as a boss. After all, he always cared about his family to a near crazy amount.
The wind had the refreshingly sweet scent of cherry blossoms, and the brunette couldn't help the image of his male mist guardian fighting his cloud guardian.
Speak of the devil, Tsuna thought as he spied the prefect in flowing gakuran and all, leaning cooly against the walls of Namimori middle school. The place held so many memories, and he was about to relive all of them.
The Decimo didn't know whether to be happy or dreadful. If he did anything different, it might end up in Gokudera not getting saved, or Yamamoto actually dying, or hell, Xanxus winning the Sky battle.
Shaking his head, Tsuna and his brother slowed to fast walk, with a comfortable 3 minutes to get to class, and absentmindedly gave the prefect a curt nod. It was one of the only greetings
Hibari preferred.
He took this time to think about how the hell he should even act. Dame? Just Clumsy? Indifferent? Inwardly groaning, he let himself be led by Ieyasu to the classes board. How lucky he was that it was the first day and not to be expected to know his own class number.
"Onii-san, we're in class 1-C(?) with Yamamoto-kun and Kyoko-chan," announced the younger twin. Tsuna smiled in gratitude, gesturing for them to go to homeroom before a certain non-baby had a chance to 'randomly' appear.
They walked through the hallways in silence, Ieyasu wearing an expression similar to primo's and his when he was boss. It was then that the older decided it wouldn't be wise to sound like he did when he was 26. It wouldn't make any sense to his brother, and the night before could be passed off as a delusion. It was in a moment of carelessness and weakness that he didn't realize he should act his body's age.
Reborn also probably got a description, albeit pathetically vague, of him.
Tsuna, as taught by Reborn himself, knew never to guess or assume anything, as he had the advantage of Hyper Intuition. He needed information more than anything. He already knew that he still had poor grades, and he was still clumsy, supported by the look of amazement when he foolishly showed off his skills.
Honestly, riding down the stairs sounds like something Mukuro or Dino would do. Sighing, Tsuna entered their classroom, and just in time. As the twins got into the only open seats (which were on opposite sides of the classroom) the bell chimed and the sensei entered.
"Hello. You look like a particularly pathetic batch. My name is Nezu-sensei. I graduated from here and then went on to Tokyo University. An elite, so respect me. I'll be teaching you math as well, so don't forget. Those seats can change if I feel they need to be, but I want to get introductions over with, so starting from the boy in the lowest bottom right stand, say your name and whatever else in less than 30 seconds. Start!" the aged teacher demanded, standing behind the podium.
The first one was frightful, stuttering and blushing like a mess. Tsuna was okay with pretending to be clumsy and getting bad grades (which he would gradually improve upon), but he wouldn't look that pitiful everyday if he could help it. The boy, Tsuna remembered, was just a little shy and embarrassed when put on the spot, but a good student. He went on to be a doctor at St. John's Children's Hospital when they met up last at the 10 year reunion. They kept in touch afterwards, as he was one of the nicest from his class and a doctor on his speed dial was always a blessing. His name was Ika Kinkai.
"My name is Sawada Ieyasu. I like playing sports and I have an older twin. It is a pleasure to meet you," Tsuna's brother said, bowing. Girls fawned over his composure and searched for his twin. Sighing, the brunette watched as Kyoko stood up, in sunshine and cheer, and introduced herself.
His crush for her was just a passing thing, one that came with puberty. He had yet to find another love. At his home world, many women fell head over heels in love with him because of his looks, calm attitude, kindness, and power. It all got tiring when he couldn't tell a girl who he was without risking her life and a possible relationship. Tsuna couldn't help but notice the blush on his younger twin's face as Kyoko smiled.
Had the former boss looked so adorable when he had been thinking so fondly of the girl? Tsuna wondered. Unfortunately, Ieyasu soon recomposed his features. Reborn had been watching the blonde like a hawk, and undoubtedly noticed the crush his brother had on her.
Not soon later, Tsuna's turn was up, with Ieyasu observing intensely to see if his brother was cool or he had been so tired the night previous that he imagined it.
Over the entire course of introductions, the older twin decided that he would still be stupid and clumsy, but kind and only shy. He didn't think he could fake blubbering all over the place, but he could feint a blush after much practice.
Not completely useless, yet still reason for chastisement and teasing.
"I-it is a p-pleasure to meet you all. I'm S-sawada Tsunayoshi. C-call me T-tsuna. I'm I-ieyasu's older b-brother," he said, smiling sheepishly with a (fake) blush dusting his cheeks. He was expecting 'boo's and moans of disappointment that the already popular Ieyasu's brother was weak and shy, but was surprised by silence. This time he really did get flustered, the blush intensifying as it it became more genuine.
"D-did I d-do something w-wrong?" he asked, barely able to stutter properly (A/N I couldn't help but laugh as I wrote this). At that, blood seemed to drip simultaneously from many of his classmates' noses. That had happened to several of the more eccentric women he had met upon looking at his face, but what could he do in this body? He had a baggy (but proper, lest he feel the wrath of his cloud guardian) uniform, a skinny body, weary eyes, and messy hair. Where was their cause for a nosebleed? Even his brother had a vibrant blush gracing his cheeks!
Tsuna heard rustling in the trees and nearly sweatdropped. Even Reborn had been affected by his introduction.
"E-eto…?"
"Nii-san, it's alright. You can sit down," reassured his brother, who failed at concealing his blush by looking away, being sure to avoid eye contact. He tipped his head in confusion, furrowing his brows, as it was the only proper way to express it in that body. It would be strange (and suspicious) for Reborn if there wasn't any visible sign of it at his age.
The classroom stayed awkwardly silent for several seconds before Nezu commanded the next person to proceed with her introduction. In the leftmost column, second to last seat, was Yamamoto, staring at the brunette. Tsuna was on two seats down from him, in the second to last column. He tried to resist the ache, the feeling of sinking depression. Not to let the image of Yamamoto's corpse control his mind.
Only feet away from his goal, Tsuna's face felt hard. Determined. He was told by the both of them to continue, to trust them. The brunette did trust the two, but he also loved them. They had to shoot at him to get their boss going. But Tsuna wouldn't cry. This was the mafia life. He had to believe in them, even if his intuition was screaming to the point of light-headedness. Clenching his jaw, the don held on. He looked out the window at the blue sky, praying for courage. Instead, he found his rain guardian. A beam of hope turned in a despairing arrow. Takeshi was surrounded by at least 100 men. There was a technique Tsuna knew he could defeat them with, but that had a high chance of killing the majority of them. The don saw the frustration on his face. He was hesitating for him. Guns don't hesitate, however. The suited enemies got too close to the swordsman, and more bullets were released. Takeshi's sword fell. The goons dissipated, leaving the rain guardian in a growing pool of his own blood. His eyes, darkening, stared up at the sky. They shared a gaze, a smile, one last time, before those cheerful brown orbs Tsuna had grown to take for granted became blank, as death reaped his life. Helplessness, anger, sorrow, all of these wracked his body, as Tsuna banged against the bulletproof glass, easily cracking it. At the first loss, a part of his heart also cracked. His own chocolate orbs that became so kind, so experienced, so wise, dimmed as well. The first tears in a long time fell to the ground like a diamond shattering at the hand of the dark underworld. His own hand.
Silently gasping, he took a deep breath to try to calm his conscience. His heart had been broken, his will shattered, after that day. The will to die for the sake of your friends. It disappeared when they all died. When he was forced to pathetically watch and do nothing as all his friends slipped through his fingers. Sweat dripped off his brow and his bruises and abdominal injuries ached.
The voice of Takeshi haunted his ears. He almost cried. Desperately, Tsuna tried to remember the good times, when the other still played baseball. When they were all still in school. That even after he died, he could see him, even if in the afterlife. Still, no matter how hard Tsuna tried to reassure his heart, it would not be fooled. He had let him down. Takeshi's death was all his fault, because he didn't want the same blood on his and his guardians hands.
"Well, it's time for the welcoming ceremony! Head to the gym!" the teacher ordered. Letting out another gasp, he flinched at a sudden grip. Weakly, he looked up at this parallel's brother. Primo did say he had a brother, but he thought that if he was going to be the heir, that Ieyasu would be older. Apparently not. Well, he will always be dame, so it shouldn't be surprising.
It was nice that someone was still concerned about him, but he wouldn't want his own blood to constantly fret over him.
Tsuna's reaction seemed to surprise him, as Ieyasu immediately withdrew his hand. The brunette wondered if Reborn had seen his panic attack. No, he definitely noticed it, but the boss sent a prayer to God that the hitman wrote it off as first day jitters. His intuition begged to differ.
"N-nii-san?" the blonde prodded, concern furrowing his brows. Mustering his scattered strength, Tsuna smiled brightly at his brother. "Sorry. I must have hurt my shoulder yesterday when I fell in the river. It's nothing, so don't worry. Let's go," the brunette suggested.
The younger twin's blue eyes had disbelief and worry swimming in them. Tsuna wanted to sigh at his luck. Of course, this Tsuna also hid any true pain if the wounds (and lack of proper treatment) said anything. Not only that, it is to be expected that the future Vongola heir also possessed hyper intuition.
Smiling again, the brunette urged his twin out the door, who was still stiff with suspicion. In the corner of his eye, Tsuna spotted Hibari leaning against the wall at the end of the hallway. The prefect glanced in their direction, with Tsuna not even looking at him (he didn't need to, to sense his aura of intrigue and confusion, which meant Tsuna was probably going to have to fight him soon), before he turned and went the other direction, either for the roof or for a location that has a better view in the gym.
Tsuna also saw the fleeting, worried gaze Yamamoto threw as they entered the hallway, but it disappeared just as quickly, so the brunette wasn't positive.
I hope you liked it! Please review, it makes me want to write more!
