I close my eyes, waiting for death. But there is no feeling of a knife impaling my heart. The only thing I feel is a lifting. My eyes open and I see the boy from 4 fly off of me. He then falls onto the ground and quickly looks up at his attacker. It is Tucker. He is wielding a spear, the one the boy from 4 used on me but then stole my knife. Tucker plunges the spear into his heart, killing him quickly and easy.
Boom!
His cannon fires and he grabs my hand and pulls me up. I wipe the blood from my body and take my knife back. I then realize that we killed him and there is nobody to guard the Cornucopia anymore, it an official free-for-all now. Tucker runs to the Cornucopia, while I limp over there. My leg hurts from the battle earlier. The supplies that the Careers have are all piled into the horn, strewn everywhere. We loot all of them, and fill our packs. When our packs are full we decide to take more packs that they have, I have never had such a variety of choices anywhere, besides the Capitol. We find medicines and other helpful medical stuff in the supplies. I inject a needle into my leg, pain disappearing almost instantly. I get more medical supplies and turn to Tucker. I take his shirt off, exposing the wound, and then apply a cream to it, inject it with a needle, then add a band-aid to it.
He smiles at me, glad that this year District 12 might have a chance to win. After that we then continue to steal the supplies, when we are done the only things remaining are large weapons that we can't pick up or don't know how to use them. We do take weapons though, I found a set of throwing knives and gave them to Tucker. I also took 3 throwing axes, good luck District 7.
I look at the Cornucopia and admire the scenery when we finish, I wonder if this peace will last. Tucker then gestures for me to come and look at something, and I follow him. He guides me to the side of the Cornucopia and points to something in the distance. I squint my eyes to see it. I am looking at the gray mountains, forming a mountain range, and the clean non-polluted lake by the Cornucopia. Maybe everything is peaceful right now, and maybe things will be alright for everybody.
But I spoke to soon.
On the mountains, there are giant boulders are tumbling downwards toward the floor. When I step a little bit closer I notice some figures that are climbing the mountain. The Career pack. I know it is them since there are 3 figures. They know that they are in trouble more than we do, they run down the mountain in a hurry. One Career isn't a runner, so when a boulder hurdles his way, he gets hit down faster than a bullet.
Boom!
He dies in an instant, Tucker's and my eyes follow as we watch their on coming deaths. This is the Hunger Games after all. But, even if they do survive the boulders, what supplies will they have left? No food, and that is more important than weapons at this point. I grab Tucker's hand and start to run from the Cornucopia, dashing now thanks to the medicine I stole. Our feet pound on the ground, running from the horror. I then hear a horrendous breaking sound, and we stop running to look behind us. The Cornucopia is dented, a boulder in its foundation. The boulders must have fallen down the mountain and directed itself towards the Cornucopia. Another boulder then hurls toward the dilapidated Cornucopia.
I duck, just like kids did during the Cold War, fearing for my life. I hear a screeching sound and pull Tucker towards me, to just hold me. And I am glad I did that, since the boulder rolled right over where he was ducking. We just stay there, frozen in time, holding each other. I don't want to witness anymore, all I want is for it to stop. But I know I must fight through it, I know I would rather witness than experience. I then stand up, grab Tucker's hand, and begin to run again. I don't know where to go, but jut as long as it isn't here.
We run, that is all we do, until we fall into the grass on of faces. We both gasp for air after running for the longest time, better safe than sorry. My eyes direct itself around the arena, just grass more miles and flowers on occasion. The sky by this point is dark, must be enough for the Gamemakers today, they must want to have more action tomorrow, so now I know we are truly safe. I take out my sleeping bag and start a fire, by this point me must be so far from the nearest tribute that a fire seems safe. This time it only take a little bit, I scavenged a lighter from the Cornucopia so this is easier.
The anthem begins to play and Tucker and I look up in the sky. The sky features the boy from 1 and the boy from 4 that Tucker killed. I never really knew what the guy from 1 looked like but now I know. He has brown hair, gray Seam eyes, and tan skin. But it doesn't matter anyway, he died and the least of my problems.
"Tucker." I say to him, hoping he is still awake.
"Yes?" He asks but he sounds tired and wanting to sleep.
"Why did you save me there? We are so far into the Games that if I died now it would be one step closer to your victory." I make myself sound like I am an obstacle for him, that I am in his way.
"I need you, and I can't let you go until I know you want to go. We save each other. You took me from the lake when I was drowning, and you did what you could to save me from infection. I would never let anything happen to you, you remind me of home." That makes me feel better, now I know that I don't have the heart to kill him.
"Okay, now we need to get some rest. I know we are in store for more tomorrow." My voice is soft, sweet, I am hushing him to go to sleep.
"Goodnight."
"Night."
And now I know, that everything is going to be alright.
