"Attention tributes attention!" Claudius Templesmith's voice booms around the arena, jolting me awake.
"A feast will be commencing later today, you all will need something desperately. It will start in 4 hours, don't be late. Because it might be your only chance."
"And remember, may the odds be ever in your favor!" His voice then stops, all is quiet.
They must have a Feast because of what Tucker and I did yesterday. The Careers now have little to no survival supplies left to go on the next few days. Without them, there really isn't a show anymore. The Capitol easily get bored of tributes who aren't Careers, since the Careers are their favorites. They are the tributes who get sponsored stuff, a very rare occasion for one from any other District. And usually they get those sponsored because of their high Training Score, even though it isn't fair since they train for the Games and are used to the weapons. The entire idea of the Careers is sick anyway, have 3 District team against everybody else. Somebody needs to bring them down a peg.
"Do you think we should go?" Tucker asks
"I am not sure, if we don't almost guaranteed we survive tonight. If we do go, we have a chance to let the Careers get nothing, but we also run the risk of our lives." Tucker's facial expression is now sad, we both want the Careers gone but we both know it won't be easy.
"I think we should go." Tucker says, cold after a while of silence.
"Are you crazy we could-."
"Die, I know. But if not then the Careers will dominate the other tributes, leaving only us and them. We would then need to fight them off, and what are the odds of District 12 winning against District 2? 0%." He interrupts, but he has a point.
"Fine, we'll go. We have a ton of packs and weapons, we can kill them easily when we get there. I have a few axes, spears. You have throwing knives and a trident. There is no way either one of us will not win this." And I finally truly think we could win this, for District 12, for ourselves.
"We don't have much time, it will take us a few hours to get back there anyway, we should start going now."
"Don't wanna be tardy." I respond back, jokingly.
"Wouldn't dream of it." He smiles, maybe since he knows we are going to win this year.
We start our journey back to the Cornucopia, running the risk of ourselves dying. But who cares? We both know District 12 has this in the bag, if it's me or him. I turn back to where we set camp, lucky we left. Since the poisonous purple gas is there. The journey takes a long time, we shouldn't have set camp so far away. But, it pays off when I see the Cornucopia, in the distance, damaged beyond repair.
As we near it, the Cornucopia sinks into the ground. I almost think we are to late, when a new one pops up. This new one is not damaged, not even a scratch on it. Its golden body blinds me when I look directly at it. Tucker and I are far enough from it that we can't be completely identified, but still close enough to be seen. This wouldn't need to be a problem if we had trees, I have seen in previous Games that tributes hide in the tree line to be concealed from the other tributes.
We get closer to the Cornucopia, so now we can be seen. I then bring Tucker down, hiding us in the grass. Time is not our friend now, since we must wait for the Feast to actually start. I am about to turn back and leave, giving up on this idea when I hear a noise. My body shifts in the direction of the sound, and it is at the Cornucopia. My eyes peek from the grass, and I realize the Feast is starting. A silver table is now in the middle of the Cornucopia, decorated with packs.
There are 4 packs: District 2's, large, District 7's, medium, District 8's, small, and District 12's, ours is small.
Let the Feast, begin. I jump up and dash towards the Cornucopia. Whatever is in that pack, we don't need, all we need is the remaining Career Pack dead. The girl from 8 is the first to reach the Cornucopia, she rapidly grabs her pack and is gone. Her blonde hair waves when she takes a step, and her blue eyes look like the sky. I never actually noticed her in the Games, Tucker has seen her multiple times while I have just seen her today. District 2 is then at the Cornucopia, taking all of the remaining packs. One of Tucker's throwing knives flies past me, toward the girl from 2. The knife landed in her upper chest, she then takes it out and falls to the ground. There was no cannon so Tucker throws another one at her, this one hits her back.
Boom!
1 Career down, 1 more to go. The boy from 7 then appears in front of me, a devilish grin on his face. He has an ax in his hand, ready to find its victim. He attempts to chop my head, but I duck and slice open his stomach. He groans in pain, but I give him no mercy. My knife slashes his neck, blood staining his shirt. I see the life in his eyes disappear, he falls onto the table making it covered in blood.
Boom!
Tucker and I then look for the boy from 2, who is still inside the Cornucopia. He is filled with rage, hot and steamy from us killing his District Partner. He then pulls out a sword, jumps over the table, and dashes toward us. More at Tucker than me really, so I take out an ax from my pack. When it is in my hand, Tucker is running for dear life. I throw the ax at the boy from 2, but it misses. He then leaps toward Tucker, sword in hand. It stabs his back, but goes through him to his stomach. Another ax in my hand, ready to throw.
"Don't come any closer District 12." He says, triumphantly.
"I won't, but this ax might." Rage shows in my voice, he then takes Tucker and puts him in front of himself, making Tucker a shield.
"If you throw that ax, we both go down. What are you going to do?" He then laughs, crazily, he must have gone mad from the death of his Partner.
I put my ax down, still in my hand but not able to throw it at him, "That's what I thought." He then stabs Tucker again, then sets him down.
"No!" I throw the ax at him this time, and I goes into his chest, and he falls to the floor.
I run over to Tucker, tears in my eyes. He was going to die in the future maybe, but I didn't want to see it. But, now I did and his face is draining of blood, and the life in his eyes are depleting. I hold his head, showing him that I won't leave until his cannon fires. I look deep into his eyes, telling him I am not going anywhere, I will stay with him until I know he is gone.
Boom!
When I hear the cannon I jolt, wondering if Tucker died. When I look around me, I see the boy from 2 on the floor, dead. Tucker then grabs at my shirt, pulling me toward him. His eyes examine my face, taking everything in for his final moments. He then tries to say something, but he isn't able to spit it out. I string my fingers through his hair, untangling his hair that was curled a bit since the beginning of the Games.
"We almost did it you know." I say, tears filling my eyes.
"It's only you know.. and I know that you won't let me down." He chokes out, barely audible.
"And another thing Riley." He must be very near to death, his voice is reduced to a whisper.
"Yes?" I choke from the tears.
"You have to win." He whispers this and his voice remains soft.
Boom!
I let his body sink to the ground, it is him and the earth now. I scramble to pick up the packs for District 2, 7, and 12 and also take the fallen axes and other weapons. To commemorate Tucker, I will use his throwing knives. There will be nothing in this world that will let me Tucker, or the Games. Tears have soaked my face, and I run. I just run, away from the Cornucopia, from the bodies, from the horrors. The hovercrafts then pick up the bodies both from 2, boy from 5, and Tucker. 3 tributes remaining. Why wasn't the girl from 7 not there? But even if she was there, she would have to have witnessed her District Partner getting murdered, by me. Nobody should even have to witness that, and I am now jealous of her. She never saw her partner die, she never had to almost get killed by the boy from 4, and I bet she was never in the poisonous meadow the one that claimed the life of the boy from 9, who I watched die.
These Games will never end, because life is the Games. And trying to survive, means certain death. So I continue running, running from my nightmares.
Thanks for reading this chapter, just one thing. DONZ CRY! -._-. It made me sad when he had to go. I kind of made Tucker's tragic death like Rue's except I need to be a better writer to ever amount to the emotional toll of Rue's. Don't forget to review on this story, it tells me how much you like the story and, as always.
Constructive Criticism is always helpful! Hope you liked the story, BYE!
