Jenny's eyes snapped open the next morning to the sound of her bedroom door opening and immediately she sat bolt upright in bed. As the girl blinked a few times to refocus her vision all she could think about was Vastra and what she had said the night before. It hadn't fixed things between them, of course, but somehow Jenny felt a little better knowing why the Silurian had thought so badly of her. Still, she wished that the other woman hadn't left so suddenly. For the entire time that Vastra had been talking and explaining herself Jenny had been fixed on her every word and as she had finished the girl had wanted to talk about it, but the other woman had been gone before she could so much as part her lips to speak. It had left Jenny entirely speechless and with no idea what to do. In the end she had been forced to resign herself to sleep, slowly drifting off with the Silurian's pillow held tightly to her and the hope that Vastra would return in the morning so that they could discuss the matter further circling her mind.

"Oh, you're up – th' Doctor said 'e didn' think you would be for a while yet" As her eyes came to rest on the figure of her father opening the curtains while he spoke Jenny's heart sank slightly. She had been hoping that Vastra would come to see her first thing as she had done every morning for the past week but the Silurian was yet to show her face. John was looking at his daughter intently and it took a moment for Jenny to realise that she probably hadn't looked overly pleased to see him. She smiled sheepishly and sighed as she allowed her gaze to drop down into her lap.

"Sorry," she muttered, "I just... I thought you might 'ave been..." The girl shook her head, "Never mind."

"You though' I might 'ave been 'er?" The man nodded his head in the direction of the guest room Vastra had been sleeping in and frowned slightly as he noticed his daughter pull the woman's pillow back to her chest at the mention of the green woman. "I though' you an' 'er were done."

"Far from it." Jenny looked up at her father ready to berate him for assuming such a thing but from the look on his face she was sure that he hadn't meant any harm by what he had said. She knew that he was trying to understand. As far as Jenny could tell there were only two good things that had come out of the whole mess that she found herself in: one was her beautiful little angel and the other was that her father had finally stopped shutting her out.

Not long after Jenny had sent Vastra away on the day that their daughter was born Jenny's father had come rushing in to see his daughter. He had explained about seeing her by the docks and running all the way there and how he had been so worried about her. Jenny had just pulled him down next to her and hidden her face in his chest; she had been too upset to really listen to what he was telling her, wanting only to cry and cry until she had no tears left. Even so, she had restrained her tears and they had managed to make some sort of peace between them even though John did make it very clear that Jenny's mother could know nothing of it – she had still not forgiven her daughter for falling in love with her mistress.

"Jenny, I know i' aint my business but 'ow can you even think o' goin' back to tha' woman after wha' she said? I saw 'ow much i' 'urt you lass, I don' want you gettin' tha' 'urt again."

"You're right, it aint your business." Jenny hadn't meant to be so sharp but she had been through similar conversations with both of her parents before. Her father should have known that she didn't need his approval to make her own decisions. She didn't expect him to understand why she still loved Vastra or why she knew that it wasn't over between them, all she wanted was for him to let her do what was right for her without argument.

"Fine, I won't say anythin' else."

"Daddy, don't you an' mother ever fight?" The question took John by surprise and his frown deepened as he regarded his daughter. It wasn't that he didn't see the relevance of Jenny's question, he just didn't understand how she could compare the two relationships – he and Mary had been married for thirty years, Jenny barely knew this woman that she claimed to love in comparison.

"Jenny, I..."

"Just answer me." She crossed her arms over her chest and watched as her father's frown eased a little. He'd always loved how Jenny knew her own mind. Most men of the era in his place would have seen the girl as wild and disobedient but John saw his daughter as free. It was his favourite thing about her. Trying to force back his slight smile considering the topic of conversation they had fallen on he slowly nodded his head.

"O' course we fight lass, bu' not like you an' tha' woman o' yours are right now."

"That's just because you aint me an' Vastra though." Jenny shook her head slightly and looked at the door for a brief moment as though willing the other woman to come through it. She didn't, however, and eventually Jenny allowed her gaze to turn back to her father. "The way I see it, a relationship without arguments don't 'ave any passion – Vastra an' I just 'ave an excess." She couldn't help but giggle slightly at the way her father looked at her. "I didn't mean it like that!" John Flint wasn't a proper man by any account but even he was made uncomfortable by certain levels of suggestion. Really, Jenny hadn't meant for what she said to be suggestive at all but somehow she had known her father would misinterpret her meaning. Shaking her head slightly she put down the pillow that she still had clutched to her chest and slowly began to slip out of bed.

"Do y' want some 'elp lass?"

"No, I need to get my strength up again - can't be sittin' around 'ere doin' nothin' for much longer, I'll go mad with boredom." For the first few days after having the baby Jenny hadn't felt well at all – certainly not well enough to get out of bed; however, for the past few days she had been attempting to build her strength back up, taking the baby on short strolls around the park around the corner from the house or doing odd jobs to try and tidy things up a bit. The girl could barely believe how messy the house had got in just the few days that she had been bed ridden and she had made a mental note never to let Vastra prepare her own meals again (the kitchen had been a state of blood and meat when she had first entered it and she decided that it would be the first thing she would clean properly once she felt up to the task). Quite frankly Jenny couldn't wait for everything to just get back to normal so that she would have some way of distracting herself from everything that was going on between herself and Vastra.

As Jenny finally straightened up from her seat she took a moment to just stand. It still wasn't entirely comfortable transitioning between sitting and standing but she was just glad that the discomfort in walking had finally stopped. The girl watched as her father made his way over to the baby's crib and as he reached the side of it she saw two chubby little arms reaching up towards him. A little gurgle of happiness echoed around the silent room and John chuckled deeply as he lifted his granddaughter into his arms.

"Well 'ello there lil miss, 'ow are you today?" The little girl wiggled her arms and legs happily and Jenny noticed how the smile never left her father's face. She enjoyed watching the two of them together. John always seemed to light up whenever he had the baby in his arms and Jenny couldn't help but wonder if he had been the same way with her when she was very young. As for the baby, she always looked up at her grandfather with such adoration in her big blue eyes, as though he were a god of sorts. She clearly loved him very much and the girl could tell that her father loved the child too. Jenny was glad that he had been around to meet his granddaughter even if her mother wasn't – it was a shame for the baby but some things simply couldn't be changed.

"'and 'er 'ere, she'll need a feed." The girl took a few steps to close the space between the bed and the crib and carefully took her daughter into her arms. As the baby's eyes came to rest on her mother's face her smile seemed to spread from ear to ear and Jenny, smiling too, kissed the end of her little nose. "Good mornin' my angel."

"Y'know, Jen, you are gonna 'ave to give 'er a name a' some point. She can't jus' be your 'angel' forever."

"She can."

"Jenny..."

"I know." The girl sighed as she lowered herself into the armchair by the side of the crib and she cradled the baby in the crook of her arm. "I aint stupid daddy, I know she needs a name. I just don't feel right decidin' without Vastra. She's 'er baby too, and we 'ad options but we said we'd decide together on what suited 'er best." As she looked down at the child in her arms Jenny smiled softly at the sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes and giggled as the long pink tongue flicked out from between tiny pink lips. That was the sign the little one had created to tell her mother that she was hungry.

"I'll wait outside." As the door clicked shut behind her father Jenny slid her nightgown off of her shoulder and looked directly into her daughter's eyes.

"Right little madam, now I want you to promise to be gentle. I know you got some o' your mother's taste for blood but you know 'ow it 'urts me when you bite down too 'ard." The baby's little tongue flicked out again and Jenny decided it was good enough to count as a promise. She lifted the baby to a more comfortable position and sat back as she started to feed. It surprised the girl how quickly the feeling had become normal to her. The first time she had fed the child it had felt so wrong and yet that first time had only been a few days before. Jenny was adapting to motherhood a lot faster than she had expected to.

A few quiet minutes passed and Jenny allowed her mind to wonder freely. She thought about Vastra and wondered if the Silurian would be visiting them at any point in the day. Honestly, she couldn't even hazard a guess as to whether the woman would come or not. Before their conversation the night before Jenny had never had any doubt about whether or not she would see Vastra but after everything that had been said she just couldn't tell. The Silurian had seemed uncomfortable with opening up so much and, although Jenny didn't like to admit it, her reluctance had hurt a little. She wanted Vastra to be able to trust her with anything, and just the thought that perhaps there were things that the woman would rather she didn't know brought tears to her eyes. Jenny just hoped that her love would come to see her so that they could talk; life was too short to fight and she missed Vastra more than she could ever explain.

"Ouch!" Jenny jerked out of her deep state of thought and looked down at the baby who had quickly detached herself from her mother the second that she had gotten too carried away. Jenny's nipple hurt where the child had bit her and a small trail of blood had begun to trickle down her stomach but the girl ignored it when she noticed the tears welling up in her daughter's eyes. She pulled the baby closer and gently hugged her to her body as she kissed her head. "Shhh, it's okay angel, I know you didn't mean to 'urt me."

"I would not be so sure about that." Jenny's eyes flicked up in shock and for a moment she just stared at the Silurian stood leaning against the door and watching her. She hadn't heard Vastra enter and she wondered whether she may have somehow summoned the woman by thinking about her too much. However, slowly coming to the realisation that that was practically impossible in most cases (the Doctor excluded) she parted her lips to speak.

"Vastra... I... um... wait, what?"

"I said if I were you I would not be so sure that the child did not intend to hurt you. She is part Silurian Jenny, if she is hungry for blood there is very little that will stop her from finding a way to get it." As she spoke Vastra had slowly begun to walk towards the armchair until she could get no closer at which point she crouched by Jenny's legs and leant in to kiss the baby's head. All of a sudden the girl felt rather exposed and she scrambled to cover her breast while also trying not to drop the baby. The Silurian rolled her eyes slightly and sighed. "It is nothing I have not seen before my love."

A slight blush tinted Jenny's cheeks and Vastra smiled up at her softly. Jenny had almost forgotten how much she loved that smile, and those eyes, and the general cool haze that seemed to surround the Silurian and chill the air around her. Quickly snapping out of her own thoughts yet again the girl shrugged lightly and continued to try and cover herself; her attempts, however, were entirely futile. Realising that her only hope was to free her arms Jenny looked down at Vastra a little sheepishly and then nodded to their daughter in indication.

"Would you mind...?"

"I thought you would never ask." As Vastra took the baby from Jenny's arms those cool scales brushed against her skin for a fraction of a second and the girl's eyes snapped shut involuntarily. The Silurian pretended not to notice.

It had been clear to Vastra the night before that, although Jenny was still angry with her, her darling girl really did miss her. In a way she supposed that had been her motivation for telling Jenny the truth. They needed each other and Vastra knew that, but she also knew that the girl would not forgive her easily and she would have to sacrifice her own comfort in order to regain Jenny's heart. She was just thankful that she was finally allowed to see them again, Jenny and their daughter. The separation from everything that she loved had been eating away at Vastra's insides and the Silurian was sure that if Jenny had continued to push her away for much longer she would have regressed back to the state she had been in when she had first been awakened from hibernation.

Looking down at the baby in her arms the loneliness of the past week seemed to disappear and Vastra gently traced the shape of her daughter's jaw line with her index finger. The baby's skin was so soft and warm and somewhere in the back of the Silurian's mind she was reminded of all the times she had slid her fingers over Jenny's skin. She missed the feeling of Jenny's skin and the smell of her hair. She missed Jenny, and after having their daughter in her arms Vastra knew that she would miss her too the second that she let go of her.

"Vastra, about last night..."

"I must apologise for leaving so suddenly. I know that it must have been difficult for you to hear everything that I told you and not have been able to talk it over properly." As she spoke Vastra's gaze trailed up the length of Jenny's body until she reached the girl's eyes. There was so much confusion in the darkness of them and a part of Vastra had wished that she hadn't been such a coward and run away. Slowly the Silurian stood from where she was kneeling on the floor to place the baby back in her crib and as she turned back she found herself face to face with Jenny who had moved to stand behind her.

"Why did you leave?" The girl was close. Very close. Her words were barely audible but they were whispered so close to Vastra's face that she couldn't have missed a single syllable even if she had tried. The Silurian wanted to touch her darling girl. She wanted to lift Jenny into her arms and kiss her as deeply as she could but she restrained herself, they had to talk before she could allow herself to let go and lose herself in the girl as she so desperately wanted to.

"I am not good at admitting my weaknesses."

"Your weaknesses?"

"You." Vastra wanted to elaborate but she was finding it difficult to focus. Jenny's scent was invading her senses from every direction and the woman could barely think for the need to have Jenny closer. Cautiously she reached her hand forwards slightly and ran her fingers across the delicate skin on the palm of the girl's hand. Jenny's eyes flickered shut again for a fraction of a second and Vastra was pleasantly surprised as the girl laced their fingers together and stepped forwards ever so slightly. "Telling you the truth scared me Jenny. You are my everything and yet you feel as though you are something I can never truly have."

"You already 'ave me."

"My mind tells me that I am not worthy."

"What does your 'eart tell you?" Jenny tilted her head back slightly to look up at Vastra and she caught hold of the other woman's gaze. For a few moments they stood staring into each other's eyes in silence.

"My heart," the Silurian murmured, "cannot be trusted. It is too easily fooled by every wondrously perfect thing you do and say."

"You daft old lizard..." The girl's free hand caressed the scales on Vastra's cheek and Jenny shook her head ever so slightly, "that's exactly why you should trust your 'eart. It knows what we 'ave even if you can't see it." Vastra parted her lips to speak but Jenny shook her head to stop her. "You 'ad your say last night, now it's your turn to listen. You seem so sure that I should 'ave a relationship that's just like them ones other girls 'ave but did you ever stop to think that maybe I don't want what's normal an' proper? I've never been like other girls Vastra an' I never want to be. Other girls suit 'andsome men in suits that buy 'em flowers an' take 'em to dinner or show 'em off at social gatherin's, but that's not me. D'you know what suits me more? 'idin' in the shadows in the dead of night with a sword in one 'and an' you by my side, or curlin' up on the sofa by the fire with your arms around me. I love you Vastra, an' I don't care whether your 'ead tells you that you're worthy of bein' with me or not – I'm tellin' you that you are. You're the only one I want. An' as for what you said about not being worth the pain I don't ever want to 'ear you put yourself down like that again, d'you 'ear me! It don't matter to me 'ow much you 'urt me, you'll always be worth it an' I'll always love you just the same."

Jenny was about to start speaking again but Vastra didn't give her the chance. The Silurian's hand found the small of the girl's back and she gently pulled her closer so that the length of their bodies were pressed tightly to one another. For a minute or two Vastra didn't do anything, holding the smallest of spaces between Jenny's lips and her own, just waiting. If Jenny closed the gap then she would know that the girl had forgiven her and, although the pause seemed to last forever, Jenny couldn't resist for long and she pulled Vastra so close as she kissed her that the Silurian was almost thrown off balance.

"I still 'aven't forgiven you" Jenny whispered as she pulled back for air and Vastra chuckled, pressing her forehead against Jenny's own.

"You are a terrible liar."
