She's a Pistol: Oh Jude- if you have a Jude I pray he isn't like that. I love that you love him. What do you think of his juxtaposition with Jem?

~Seto's POV~

As soon as Jem left my world fell apart. It wasn't a week after her departure that the monster scare occurred. I was overwhelmed. Someone was manipulating my technology and framing my company. Though I had numerous enemies, I felt I could narrow this one down. That's when he called.

While Pegasus cornered me into a duel, I couldn't help but wonder if he knew of my relationship with her. However, I couldn't say anything about her and give it away if he didn't. Still, I wondered if he was tearing me away from my post knowing that I would stand in his way if he dared try anything. Unfortunately, he left me with no choice but to leave and duel him. So long as Kaiba Corp. remained in my control, I could be assured that she would be safe.

~Jem's POV~

"Are you reading that damn book again?" Jude mumbled from his bed. His eyes were closed and he was turned away, but he still knew. He didn't feel well and his withdrawals were already starting. Even so, he couldn't stand the silence.

"I'm reading the Latin translation," I answered candidly from his balcony. Despite the door being open, his room managed to stay rather dark. This was good as it would have probably aggravated his headache.

"You mean the English translation from Latin," he murmured, thinking he was correcting me.

"No, it's originally in Italian and I've already read several of the English translations," I returned.

"So you know Latin now?" he accused.

"Yeah, I taught myself Latin," I answered simply.

"Why not just learn Italian?" he uttered.

"Why would I want to learn a language that would enable me to talk to more people? No, Latin is a dead language and the language of science. Obvious choice."

Jude only answered me with a groan.

I closed the book and set it aside, looking out over the beauty that was only ours. As I looked out over the open beach, I thought running would be good for him, and we used to race when we were kids.

"You want to race?" I asked my brother, glancing over at him.

"No, I don't fucking want to race," he snapped. "I feel like shit."

I sighed and turned back to the scenery. "I think I'll go for a run, then," I remarked.

"Ok, bye," he grumbled, trying to go back to sleep.

~Seto's POV~

As I flew back over the water to Duelist Kingdom, I had a thought. "Mokuba, when we get there don't say anything about Jem," I directed.

"Uh, ok..." he replied, confused. He still didn't know of my relation to her, and I preferred it that way, but he still knew where she was.

Soon we were there. I grew more tense the further we went into the castle. It was more eerie than before. Then there he was, full of himself as ever. But something remained off.

As we dueled all Pegasus did was talk about when he beat me "last time," but that duel wasn't the last time I saw him. And he never mentioned Jem, never asked for information, which is what I thought this had truly been about.

I didn't say anything, waiting for him to bring it up, but he never did. He only referenced our despicable infamous match. Something wasn't right. This person was not Pegasus, and I began to worry that it was meant to be a distraction for me. Still, his stock in my company was very real and had to be dealt with while I was here. I would know as soon as she was in trouble, and I was starting to get the feeling this wasn't about her. In fact, I don't think this person even knew she existed. This was not Pegasus.

One of my favorite things to do is to twist the cannon, not adding her into any scenes, but adding some thoughts for Seto to have them fit into the story. What do you think?

Next Chapter: For the Better

"I'm going to fucking kill one of them."
