Jack shifted on the branch he rested on, his staff clutched tightly in his hand as he did. Below him a group of the Neverland children, as they were called by the spirits, ran underneath the the branch he was on, searching for him in their game of tag.
Tinkerbell and her friends landed on his shoulders, silently giggling, as the children passed right underneath him. "Maybe he's hiding in the winter woods." A voice remarked from another tree, a voice that Jack and the fairies knew well. At the remark the children cheered and ran for the winter woods to search for Jack there.
Peter burst into laughter once the children were gone then joined Jack and the fairies. "Thanks Peter." Jack smirked before the two boys and the fairies flew to hide in a different spot.
"What do you have planned for tomorrow, it is your three hundredth rebirth day after all?" Peter asked.
"I'm not sure but from the rumors I've heard the Guardians are planning a surprise for me." Jack shrugged as he answered. "I also heard that Pitch might be on the move, a few of the other spirits have told me they have seen horses made of black sand racing across the sky on some nights."
Unknown to anyone, Jack's family's plans would be ruined, for a dark figure had plans for Jack as well, though they were les fun then what his family had planned.
For years he watched from the shadows, observing and working on his own version of the Sandman's dreamsand, and now he felt he was ready to step out of the shadows and take back what he considered his, the dreams of this world he had been trapped on, mainly those of the children.
The nightmares from the children were the best as they had the most unbound imaginations and were unhindered by an adult mind. His first target was the youngest spirit, he having died at a young age and was still considered a child by many older spirits, Jack Frost. Little did he know that by targeting Jack he would not only bring the wrath of all but one of the Guardians upon him but that of the three main seasonal spirits and Mother Nature as well.
Jack had just landed on his pond when he was hit from behind and knocked unconscious by a wave of nightmare sand. A figure dressed in black chuckled as he stepped out of the shadows and, none too gently, dragged Jack off to his lair, unknown to him an autumn sprite saw it happen and quickly flew off to find any spirit that would help Jack.
After that word quickly spread through the spirits above ground, some of who alerted the Guardians of what happened. Mother Nature along with the three other seasonal spirits arrived at Santoff Claussen, Ombric's village, at the same time as the Guardians.
The minute Nightlight heard that Jack had been taken captive by Pitch Black he grabbed his staff, ready to go to get him back but he was stopped by Ombric, who reminded him that it wasn't time for Jack to see him face to face yet and was forced to stay behind while the others went to rescue his twin.
After he has Jack in his lair, Pitch set his plan to take over in motion by distracting North, who had gone to the pole to retrieve his swords, with the stolen, black dreamsand before he went to where he was holding Jack, the younger spirit trapped in a nightmare created by Pitch.
Before he could enter the prison though, he was thrown to the ground when part of his lair exploded and Ombric, with Katherine, Peter, Mother Nature and the other three seasonals stormed in through the hole.
"Where is my son!" Mother Nature demanded in a angered voice as she flew over to Pitch and grabbed him by the front of his cloak. "You will tell me right now father or I will let his brother and sisters have their way with you." She growled into his ear.
Pitch yanked his cloak out of her grip, with a sneer, and waved a hand towards the prison where he held Jack before he slipped away into the shadows to start the next part of his plan, which allowed those in his lair to rescue Jack and take him to back to his pond, where he woke up.
While they were off rescuing Jack, Mim contacted Nightlight. "Pitch has made his move in a way I never counted on so I have decided to make a move of my own, Jack will be meeting you tonight after he becomes a Guardian."
Nightlight blinked up at the moon after he received MiM's decision then broke into a grin and raced off to the Pole to wait for Jack's arrivel. As he waited, Nightlight visited with North, Tooth and Sandy while Bunny went to retrieve Jack.
Once the portal opened North sent Nightlight up into the rafters until it was time for Jack to, finally, meet him face to face. Nightlight flew up and settled onto one of the rafters without a complaint as Jack came crawling out of the sack.
Nightlight was joined by the other three seasonal spirits and Mother Nature as Jack took the Guardians oath. The five of them flew down to congratulate Jack on becoming a Guardian as soon as North was done speaking, though Nightlight hung back for a little while.
"What's going on?" Jack asked as everyone parted so Nightlight was in Jack's view. "Who're you?" He questioned as soon as he spotted Nightlight. He grinned at Jack instead of answering him. Jack felt a paw rest on his shoulder as Bunny moved to stand next to him.
"I split you two up so MiM decided I would be the one to reunite you, Jack I'd like you to meet you twin brother, Nightlight." With that said Bunny gently pushed Jack closer to Nightlight.
Jack jerked his head to blink at Bunny in surprise as what he said registered then he turned his head to meet his twins eyes, a grin slowly spreading across his face. "Nightlight, wow I... can't believe I get to meet you early. MiM told me I had to wait until after Pitch was defeated, what happened to change his mind."
"Pitch forced MiM's hand when he kidnapped you and he decided to let you two meet earlier then planned because we're going to need both your help so you will be working together, with the rest of us Guardians of course." Ombric answered as he and Katherine stepped into view.
