Chapter 7
Contact Lestrade
Gibbs walked into MTAG to find McGee sitting at a computer to the left. McGee acknowledged his boss' presence and put the man on the other side of the connection on the big screen. Gibbs nodded to the man.
"Inspector Lestrade? I'm Special Agent Gibbs." The man nodded. He was sitting back, presumably with his feet on the table, eating a sandwich.
"What's this about then?" Lestrade asked, after swallowing his bite of his sandwich.
"Sherlock Holmes," Gibbs told him.
"Haven't seen him in some weeks, what about him?"
"We have him in custody."
At first there was no visible reaction from the Inspector. After a moment he sat up, putting his feet down, sighed and pulled a hand over his grey hair. "Okay, how did he end up there? Tell me, nothing about this man surprises me anymore."
Gibbs noted his reaction in his mind. "We found him on our crime scene – " Gibbs wanted to continue, but Lestrade interrupted him.
"Did he piss you off?"
Gibbs didn't answer that.
"He had your ID on him."
"Yeah? Did he take another one?"
Gibbs couldn't understand this Holmes and how everyone around him reacted on him.
"Does this happen often?" Gibbs asked. Lestrade sighed visibly.
"There is not really anything I can do to stop him. It has happened multiple times already, but he takes other stuff too. When I ask, I usually get it back, but he keeps my badges to annoy me. I always only notice when he is already long gone," Lestrade explained.
"Right. How long have you known him?" Gibbs asked.
"About five years now." He took another bite of his sandwich. When Gibbs didn't say anything, he continued. "He can be a complete asshole, but he is a great man. He helped me out on a few cases with his incredible mind. I'm glad John is here now, though. Keeps him from doing some very stupid things and might even teach him something about proper behaviour."
"What does he do?"
"Sherlock?"
"Yes"
"Solves cases like no-one else can. Attracts types like Moriarty and Irene Adler."
"You think he could commit a murder?" Gibbs was interested in the names Lestrade mentioned, but he already knew about them. Maybe he would ask him about them later.
"Of course he can, he is Sherlock. But he wouldn't do it. Even in the improbable case he would, he would do it closer to home. He only does something to enjoy himself. No fun in doing it in America, when he has people to play with here."
Gibbs decided this was not gonna work.
"Do you know Micheal Riddle?"
"Don't think I heard of him."
"I sent him an image, Boss," McGee said.
"Still don't know him," Lestrade said. "Who is he?"
"Our victim, and we assume the boyfriend of Irene Adler."
"Irene Adler? A boyfriend? No, I don't think so."
Why could they all not believe it was possible she had a boyfriend? Gibbs thought. He asked the rest of his questions and then finished up the conversation. He knew he had to treat carefully with this case, and he wanted the murderer put away. Unfortunately, they couldn't find a lead on that torturing thing. Still everything kept telling him Holmes was up to no good, whatever his friends might say, that idea was not gonna change for now.
A/N: I know my chapters are getting a little shorter. I'll try and work on that. I am also working on another story now, for which I have a lot more inspiration at the moment. This causes longer waiting periods between the chapters, so I hope you'll forgive me for that.
