Chapter 8
Looking back

Tony checked his E-mail and saw McGee had E-mailed him a bunch of documents. 'Cases Holmes was involved in, from DI Lestrade.'

McGee had managed to get hold of the man then. Tony didn't really want to look into them, but, well, he had to. So he opened the files one by one and started scanning through them. He really hoped a case would turn up where Riddle had done something bad, with a nice angry reaction from Holmes, so this case would probably be over soon. Most cases, however, disappeared on the not interesting pile after the first quick scan. In the whole series of documents, the name Riddle didn't appear at all. Neither did the name Irene Adler. Tony guessed this was because it had not been a case from the police.

Sometime later his teammates returned, and Gibbs was very obviously waiting for an overview of what they got.

"I looked through the cases Mr Holmes has been working on, but they only thing catching attention is that all cases are rather unusual," Tony said. "But had another look at Watson's blog and there was one post about Irene Adler. But he claims he can't talk about it because of the Official Secrets Act. It only says she nearly brought England to its knees and that she's in a witness protection scheme."

It stayed silent for a short time. Then McGee started to give an overview of the case.
"So what we have now is the body of Michael Riddle, who was tortured before he was shot by a SIG Sauer P226, and no fingerprints on the crime scene, except for Holmes' prints in Riddle's throat, where he told us he checked for life signs. We had Holmes and Watson on the crime scene, and Holmes knew a whole lot more of the case than is usual. Riddle was in England three months ago, and had a girlfriend there, Irene Adler, who is known to Sherlock and whom his friends believe is who he is in love with, and who has been dead for a month, according to Holmes and Watson," McGee summed up.
"Holmes has access to a SIG Sauer P226," Ziva added, "and might be jealous about Riddle being Adler's boyfriend. He is here for a case involving the President and finds Riddle dead during a morning walk, according to his own story. He has motive, and opportunity to kill him, and has no alibi. We didn't find anyone else who might even have a motive to kill Riddle," she continued.
"And then there is that brother of his," Tony said, "with so much influence he can change the airport rules in two minutes. Mycroft Holmes, wasn't it? I think we should have a look into him too," he suggested.
"You can do some background work," Gibbs said, "but don't try to contact him yet."
"Why not, Boss?" Tony asked. Wasn't it the point to get as much information as possible?
"His file is also classified!" McGee said, saving Gibbs from having to answer for now.
"What are they? A family of spies or something?" Ziva asked. The detective certainly didn't look like a spy, he drew all the attention to himself when he could.
Gibbs shrugged and sat down to check his mail.

"I trust that Holmes guy about as far as I can kick him," Tony said.
"That's just because he annoyed you with his smartness when we met him," McGee told him.
Tony grumbled and started thinking for an argument against that.

A/N: Sorry for the long wait everyone! I know, very short chapter, but this one is mostly to get straight what information they have gathered, for I, and maybe some of you too, had lost overview. But to make up for it, the next chapter is longer than normal (and comes quicker than normal). As always thanks everyone!
