Sirens were heard in the distance. Melissa and Kyle got behind the Acura, waving their arms to get the ambulance's attention. Stan and Wendy got in front, doing likewise. Kenny ducked down inside the car, hoping not to get arrested. Cartman and Butters were in their truck, off the road next to the Acura.
The fire truck stopped first. A half acre of tall grass and dead-on-the-vine corn was burning. Firemen quickly got to work, first putting out Kyle's car and then working on the grass. The ambulance continued. It stopped in front of the Acura, and only had room for three people.
Melissa unbuckled Trent's seat belt, before EMTs got to him and loaded him into the back of the ambulance. The EMTs then assessed the injuries of the other seven people.
It was clear that whatever had happened, Melissa had not been a part of. Cartman complained of a "killer" headache, and was loaded into the ambulance. Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Wendy, and Butters all seemed to not be seriously injured and were fully alert. Butters volunteered to ride in the ambulance anyway. The ambulance went to a hospital in Denver. Melissa went to the same hospital, ensuring to stay at least 3 minutes behind the ambulance and out of its way. Kenny had taken Trent's place in the front seat.
Kenny was frantic as he explained the situation. "Look, Melissa, it was self defence. That man has had a grudge against us since we were in preschool. Every time he comes around, he tries to kill us. He's very strong. The fat man in the ambulance got just one punch from him. He also has a knife. I had to stop him." Melissa was in agreement. "You guys look in bad shape. I hope everything works out for the best."
Meanwhile, at the fire site, the blaze was put out by 9:50, and fire investigators were called in to investigate the cause.
The ambulance screamed into the trauma center at 9:55, followed by Melissa at 10:04.
