A Sarah in the Labyrinth.
Within the depths of the Goblin King's castle lay Alice, her body hidden beneath a silk blanket draped over beautiful white dress. The fabric caressed each curve of her body, revealing each breath she took with the rise of her chest, each twitch of her hand at her side. She'd been asleep ever since the birth of her child but had been stolen up the castle to be under the watchful gaze of Jareth, the Goblin King. He remained silent as he watched her with pale eyes, a smirk on his face as he waited for his darling to awaken.
Alice's eyes suddenly fluttered open, seeing the stone of the roof above her. It confused her for a moment, unable to understand why the roof of her bedroom had changed since last she'd awoken. And why was she so cold, dressed in a dress she'd never worn before. However, when the chill of the Labyrinth began to seep into her limbs… she knew it and felt the urge to sob when she spotted a few of Jareth's magical orbs surrounding her head.
"Hello, dear Alice,"
Alice looked up to watch the Goblin King himself saunter forward, a smile on his face. He looked the same as he ever did, his hair a frazzled crown upon his head, his clothes shining and glittering in a way that had shocked her as a child. However, Alice had grown up since she'd last been to the Labyrinth and now, he looked like any ordinary person in comparison to those she'd met in the Enchanted Forest and elsewhere. Now she just remembered his mischief.
"Hello, Goblin King," she greeted in return, slowly sitting up with a wince.
"Oh, don't be so formal, darling," he told her, sweeping his arm out to touch her cheek in a caress that made her shiver. "We've known each other for such a long time,"
Alice frowned. "I'm not here to play, Jareth,"
"Then what are you here for?" he asked, a twinkle in his eyes as he lifted his nose to the open air. He sniffed twice, the last drawing in a great lung full of air, before he his face broke into one of the most sinister smiles. "Is that a baby I smell?" he asked, his eyes bright. "Come to hand over another child to me?"
She glared at him. "Never,"
"Really?" he asked, moving around the table gracefully as he spoke, never quite meeting her eyes. "I seem to remember a child you once handed over to me, long ago. What was that one's name? Tony? Terry?"
Alice's eyes closed. "Toby,"
"Aw, yes," Jareth smiled, leaning into her face. "Your baby brother,"
Alice pushed him away, hopping off the table to move to the door. She could almost see the smile on her dear baby brother's face, the guilt she'd felt every day after retrieving him from the Labyrinth. She'd never really gotten over her guilt for what she'd done.
"Let me out of here, Jareth. You brought me here once with a promise to retrieve my brother. I defeated you then and I could defeat you now… but I would rather you return me to the Enchanted Forest nicely so neither of us need to get hurt,"
Jareth smiled, breezing over to her, touching her cheek again gently. "Oh how I have missed you, Alice, my Sarah, my princess,"
"I'm not your princess," she snapped at him, stepping away. "I would like to go home now… Don't make me say the words. The last time I said them nearly destroyed your world,"
He sighed, seeming sad as he dropped his hand away from her. "Very well… If you won't stay…"
Sparkles of magic appeared around her and she suddenly dropped to the floor, meeting with his arms a moment before she hit the ground.
Jareth grinned. "Then I'll have to keep you here, dear Sarah,"
Author's Note: Not only is Sarah a name but it also means Princess.
