"So do you know anything about his father, Axel?" Sora asked the teen.
The four of them were sitting in the living room with a zombie like Roxas. Sora determined that Roxas was just going into shock and it was nothing to worry about since his cries had stopped. He had Axel carry him to the couch so they could discuss what was going on.
"The only thing I know is that his hair is black. He never told me anything about him." Axel shrugged his shoulders. He glanced at Roxas then back to Sora. "Do you think he is a bad guy or something?"
"No it's not that, it's just. I don't know. It worries me that the guy shows up a month or so after the accident and didn't bother to contact Roxas or even show up at his school. Now I'm wondering where Tifa's family is."
"I never really thought about any of this. Ven didn't even talk about having grandparents. Maybe he doesn't know them?" Axel asked to a shrugging Sora.
"We got their medical records and yet neither of them have an emergency contact. I was going to ask Roxas but then everything happened and I just forgot to about it."
"When will he snap out of it?" Axel asked, looking at Roxas glazed blue eyes. He was worried about his boyfriend and worried that Ven was with somebody Roxas didn't like. Father or not, if the man hurt either of them, Axel didn't know what he would do to the man.
"It's hard to say. If he is still like this by nine to night; we'll have to take him in." Sora replied with a sad smile. He too was worried about the same things. What if he made a mistake by letting the boy go with the man. If something happened, the brunette wouldn't be able to live with himself.
Roxas had a blank expression. He was feeling so numb. He could hear everything Sora and Axel were saying and yet he couldn't open his mouth to push away any reasons to reassure them. His father was not abusive like he was sure the two of them thought.
"Should I take him to bed?" Axel stood up and was about to pick Roxas up.
"No, you shouldn't move him." Axel paused in his movements. He looked over his shoulder with a raised brow. "Just leave him be Axel. Trust me, it's better not to move him."
"You are the expert. Isn't there anything I can do for him at all?" Axel frowned and sat beside his boyfriend.
"Maybe you guys could lay off from having sex." Sora said bluntly. He laughed at Axel's bug eyed expression. "What? I saw him limb over to me and you guys didn't do a very good job with the cover up."
Axel looked at Roxas' neck. His face flushed from embarrassment. The make-up was all blotchy; a child would be able to notice that it was make up. He mentally cursed himself for the sloppy job. "Just because he limps and has hickeys doesn't mean we had sex." He said carefully, doing his best to fight away the blush that threaten to run across his cheeks.
"Who do you think you're talking to? Axel you can't fool me." Sora chuckled with a wink. "Does that mean you guys made up? Are you dating or what?"
Axel's face flushed red. He wasn't really embarrassed about Sora knowing he had sex; but Kairi was in the room staring at the two of them with wide blue eyes. He never cared if she knew about his sex life but with the way Sora was talking; it just made the redhead feel chagrin.
Roxas' cheeks turned red. It went unnoticed by the trio in the room with him. The subject change was taking his mind off of his father, if only for a few moments. He opened his mouth and surprised everyone when he said, "Yes, we're dating now."
Kairi gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. She thought Sora was just messing around with her brother; which was why she was quiet. Her eyes looked from Axel to Roxas and then to Sora. The burette's eyes where just as wide as her own but something told her it wasn't about Axel being gay. Her husband and her brother were both looking at Roxas. The blond's glazed eyes were returning back to their normal hues.
"Are you okay Roxas?" Sora asked cautiously. He didn't want to set Roxas off again.
"Wait, wait. Back up a second." Kairi uttered with her hands on her hips. "What's going on here?"
"I'm okay. I'm sorry that I worried you all." Roxas said, his cheeks still red as Kairi started at him with a small pout. "I uh...Axel and I are dating now and um..."
"Relax Roxas, Kairi isn't one to judge. She just doesn't like being left out." Axel was relieved that Roxas wasn't in his zombie like state anymore. He even felt happier to know that Roxas openly admitted that they were together. To him it meant that Roxas wasn't going to push him away anymore.
Roxas gave him an 'oh' so the older teen looked at his sister to finish explaining. "So like he said, we're dating and that's all there is to it. Roxas is just shy about it all."
"Aww and here I thought you would be alone forever." Kairi teased and Axel stuck his tongue out at her like a child. "I guess I won't get to be aunt then." She pouted.
"Kairi, even if I was with a girl you would never be an aunt." Axel rolled his eyes. He was speaking without thinking again. He gave Sora a funny look when he heard the brunette trying to suppress a laugh. He glanced down to Roxas and cursed himself. The blond's face was strawberry red and he had bashful blue eyes gaping at him.
"Uh that's not to say that we would even get married or fuck. Damn it Kairi." Axel growled at his sister. He didn't know what to say to Roxas. He also didn't want to sound like an idiot.
"What if I want kids?" Roxas teased as his red face slowly faded. "Would you deny me that?" He gave Axel puppy dog eyes and pouted.
"Screw both of you." Axel grumbled and crossed his arms. The other three in the room laughed at him. Though Roxas didn't really know how he felt about the idea of starting a family with Axel. He never thought about having a future with anyone.
Sora got the last of his laughs out. The doctor's expression became serious. He faced Roxas, who was sitting on the couch adjacent to the one he sat on. He placed his hands on his knees and leaned forward. Roxas turned his attention to the doctor and chewed his lower lip. The two looked each other in the eye and both knew what needed to be said. No more jokes and no more subject changes.
"What do you want to know Sora?" Roxas asked after taking a calming breath. This got both Axel's and Kairi's attentions.
"Why didn't you ever mention you had a dad?" Sora planned to start off slow. He was just making sure he didn't overwhelm the teen again.
Roxas shrugged. It was a simple enough question. "I just never thought to mention him. Like it wasn't that important."
"But it is important; I guess I should have asked you back then so it's kinda my fault too. So my next question is about Tifa's family. Where are they at?" Sora's upper body leaned forward a little more, his eyes full of worried curiosity.
Roxas cast his gaze to the floor. It was another easy question to answer but the blond still felt uneasy. "She doesn't have a family. Well that's what Cloud told us."
"Oh..." Sora looked down to his right. "I guess that explains why they never showed up."
"Yeah. But don't feel bad. She has Cloud, Ven, and even me. We're her family." Roxas smiled cheerful at the thought.
"Roxas, you're so sweet." Kairi smiled and took her husband's hand. "Sora, I want that boy to feel like we are his family and not a replacement."
"What boy?" Axel asked, slyly pulling Roxas into his lap. He ignored the protests calmly while waiting for the blond to give up his struggles.
"I might as well just explain since it will lead to my next question." Sora yawned out. "There is this kid named Vanitas and...Roxas did you know that he his name is your middle name." Sora laughed.
"That kid, he's in Ven's class." Roxas said so Sora knew that he knew who he was talking about.
"Your middle name is Vanitas?" Axel chuckled and Roxas just ignore him.
"Yeah, anyway, Kairi and I are going to adopt him. I take it you know that he is an orphan?" The two nodded so Sora continued. "Ven was getting picked on but he pushed the kid away. Long story short, he has stitches and that's where I saw your dad.
So my question to you is, what's going on between you two? He said that you were upset with him. But why?"
Roxas leaned back against Axel's chest. He bit his lip, adverted his gaze to the plush beige carpet. He didn't know what to make of Ven causing a child to get stitches. He was proud Ventus wasn't going to let himself get bullied; but he wondered how his nephew felt knowing he hurt someone. He had to push those thoughts to the side so he could answer Sora. This question wasn't as easy to answer. He shut his eyes and bit his lip harder. He would have made it bleed but Axel pried his mouth open.
"You should really stop doing that." Axel whispered and stared into Roxas' eyes once they opened to stare back. "It's not good for you." He smiled and kissed the abused lip.
Roxas blushed and turned his head so he was looking at Sora again. With a deep inhale from his nose and exhale out his mouth, Roxas felt ready to talk. "My father doesn't approve of me liking guys. He thinks it's a phase, but I told him it wasn't. It was when I was still dating Hayner. I feel so stupid now for telling my father I liked a guy."
"You know, if you hadn't told him, I have a feeling you would be rejecting me right now." Axel tittered and gave Roxas a hug from behind.
"I guess you're right." He laughed and leaned into the hug. "He kicked me out of his life because I argued with him that it wasn't a phase. I was already living with Cloud at the time, so when he made me leave I just went back home.
You're probably wondering why I freaked out right? It's because I feel like a horrible son for not contacting him since he kicked me out. I'm afraid that he hates me and would want nothing more to do with me because what I feel it's something someone should joke about.
I know I should have told him about Cloud though. He had a right to know but with everything going on, it never crossed my mind; but Sora, I don't want Ven around him. It's not that he's a bad grandparent; it's just I don't want Ven to tell him about him kissing a boy or liking Axel.
My father could put thoughts in his head and I don't want him to make him think that it's wrong. He has a right to be with and like who he wants to like without feeling like its something bad." Roxas said feeling brave instead of feeling like he would cry like he thought he would.
Sora sighed in relief. He thought Roxas' dad was an abusive parent. "If that's the case then why not confront him and tell him again that you are serious. No matter what happens Roxas, you have a place here." Sora got up, along with his wife, and gave Roxas a hug.
"Thanks you guys." Roxas said feeling better about himself. For a long time, he felt like he was a horrible person. He felt sick of himself for all the things he let Hayner do to him. He felt disgusted with himself because of his father. He just felt nasty and felt like he should have just ended his life to make things better. But right now he felt normal. It's been such a long time since he felt at ease with everything in life, if only for that moment.
He knew he had to talk to his father. That was something he was worried about. He also had Cloud and Tifa on his mind. He wanted them to wake up already. His nephew needed his parents more than ever if something bad was going to happen. Roxas was sure that if he had to, he would fight his father for Ven. He doubt he would win but he would still try.
"When can I even talk to him?" Roxas asked more to himself than anyone else in the room.
"Oh! He'll be here tomorrow. He wants to take you with him to his new house." Sora said sheepishly. "I almost forgot to tell you that."
"He has a new house...I guess he got tired of living with grandpa." Roxas giggled. "They got in arguments so much; it was as if my father was a teenager again...tomorrow...I'm not going with him." Roxas looked up at Sora and Kairi. His hands squeezed Axel's forearms that were around his waist.
"Like Sora said, you have a place here." Kairi smiled, leaned down, and kissed Roxas' cheek.
"Roxas, do you want me to be with you when you talk to your dad?" Axel asked pulling him closer to his body. "Or would you rather have Sora there with you?"
"I...I want you with me. I want him to see that I'm not joking around." Roxas shifted in Axel's lap so he was semi facing him. "I know I'm not joking around. I like you Axel and I want him to know it."
"Damn you." Axel said and kissed his boyfriend. Roxas kissed back but was quick to pull back. Unlike the redhead, the blond remembered that Sora and Kairi were still around.
"Get a room." Kairi stuck her finger in her throat mockingly. She then squeaked as Sora pulled her in for a kiss of his own.
Axel scoffed and tapped the couple with his foot. "Maybe you should get a room." Roxas just turned his face into Axel's neck so he didn't have to see the couple.
"Maybe we will." Sora winked and grabbed Kairi's hand.
"TMI Sora." Axel wrinkled his nose.
"You said we should get a room." Sora laughed and dragged his crimson faced wife down the hall and up the stairs.
"I didn't need to know when they were going to screw." Axel groaned, throwing his head back against the couch.
"Do you guys always do that?" Roxas asked resting against Axel's chest. It made him miss Cloud and Tifa more. They used to have random spats like that only they weren't siblings, but husband and wife.
"It's what family does. I tease her, she teases me. Sora will either tease her with me, or tease me; but by making it sick because I don't need to know things about my sister.
"Oh." Roxas chuckled and closed his eyes. "M'sleepy." He yawn and curled up on Axel's lap. He felt a large hand massage his scalp and play with his hair. It felt really relaxing. "Are you trying to help me sleep?"
"Yeah." Axel said as he laid down on the couch so his body wasn't sitting anymore. He took the blond with him and closed his own eyes. "Lets just nap for now. We can talk about what we're doing tomorrow, later."
"Okay." Roxas agreed with a content sigh.
"Roxas, try to relax." Axel pleaded with the blond tapping his foot and chewing on his thumb.
It was around noon the next day. Roxas couldn't nap like Axel did. He couldn't even eat dinner that night. Instead he excused himself, claiming that he was tired and just wanted to go to bed. It wasn't a total lie; the blond just couldn't sleep, even late into the night. Axel tried to sneak in so he could sleep with his boyfriend but the blond asked if he could sleep by himself. He wanted Axel's comfort but at the same time he wanted to be alone with his thoughts.
Roxas didn't know what he would say to the man when he came. Would he break down or snap at him? Would he get smacked and taken away from Axel because he still wasn't a legal adult yet? Would he be able to even say that Axel was his boyfriend or would he just wuss out and leave willingly? All these thoughts ran over and over in his head; it was like there was a roller coaster, freely running its corse, making his head hurt.
"What am I going to do?" He questioned himself while he would toss and turn until the break of dawn.
He got up and packed his and Ven's thing quietly; just incase he and the younger blond really were forced to leave. By the time he was done, Axel had gotten up. The two shared a meal with the redhead's mom who had no clue what was going on. After they finished they just lay on Axel's bed until it was eleven.
"I can't, I feel to nervous to even bother trying." Roxas replied as he stopped tapping his foot in favor of bouncing his leg.
Axel frowned, sat down in front of Roxas on the ground, and put his hand on Roxas' knee. He got Roxas' attention by cupping Roxas' cheek and making face him. The two held eye contact until Roxas stopped fidgeting. "It'll be alright. I know you're afraid but this has to be done Roxas. Do you really want to have a bad relationship with your father with the regret of never telling him that this is who you are?"
Roxas shook his head and put his hand over Axel's on his cheek. He leaned into the large palm affectionately. Axel chuckled as he got up and sat beside the younger teen. Roxas wrapped his arms around Axel's waist and was happy when the embrace was returned. He felt so much more relaxed. He knew it was from being in the arms of someone who cared about him. Axel was someone really special to him and if that meant never getting approval from his father, Roxas didn't care. He would risk his father hating him if it meant he could still be with Axel.
His heart thumped around in his chest the more he thought about just being with Axel. 'Stupid heart is just asking to get broken again.' He closed his eyes and leaned against Axel; taking in his scent like as a small reminder that he would store away. His eye lids felt to heavy to open them. His breathing became calm and steady. He knew he was drifting off but he blamed Axel's own heart beats that lulled him into a blissful sleep.
"I said to relax, not sleep." Axel kissed the top of Roxas head. He readjust his body into a more comfortable position on the couch; that way he wouldn't hurt his back from sitting up with the blond in his arms.
"Axel?" Kairi softly said as she tip toed into the living room. She peered over the couch and giggled. "You look good together." She whispered.
Axel ran his fingers through blond spikes, keeping his gaze on the blond laying on him. "I think so too; but, Kairi I'm worried that he's forcing himself to be with me." He said tilting his head so he could stare up at his sister.
A small smile appeared on the girl's face. She reached down and flicked Axel's forehead, ignoring the annoyed look he gave her. "Stop being stupid Axel. Look at him would you?"
Axel rolled his eyes and looked at Roxas. His face held no fear or sadness. It was peaceful and to Axel, cute. His long eye lashes graced his closed eyes and his soft pink lips were relaxed and not being chewed on. His cheeks held a soft red the longer Axel memorized his face and massaged his scalp. He still didn't know what he was supposed to being seen. "Kairi I know he looks calm and all but what am I supposed to be looking at?"
Kairi clicked her tongue and flicked Axel's forehead again. "How did he look this morning compared to right now?"
"Tired, exhausted, and anxious."
"Right, but now he doesn't right? Do you know why?" Axel just shrugged and Kairi groaned at her brother's stupidity. "It's because he's with you idiot. Remember how he was yesterday before you put him in your lap? He calmed down and was able to really talk to Sora. Axel, I don't think he is with you just to be with you. He's with you because he loves you."
"He doesn't love me, he kinda said it himself." Kairi raised a brow. "He said he couldn't return my feelings but he does like me. That's enough for now I guess. I just don't want him to force himself to be with me, to make me feel better. He feels bad for pushing me away and shit."
"Okay you're both stupid. Axel, he says he likes you, so just accept it. Don't rush him into anything like what you already did." Kairi pointed at the marks on Roxas' neck, they didn't bother to cover up.
"Yeah, that was stupid but I don't regret it. I love him Kai, and I want to make him happy." Axel shifted and pulled Roxas higher up so his head was under Axel's chin. "He already makes me happy. And before you open your mouth, I was happy before I was in a relationship with him. He just made it better."
"Still have that worry?" She asked the redhead.
"Not really, thanks. Now what did you really want?" Axel mumbled and closed his eyes.
"You're welcome king of flaming asses. Anyway, Sora and I are going to the hospital. We need to fill out some paper work and get things settle for Vanitas. Hehe Axel I can't wait to be a mom." Kairi giggled and wander off down the hall.
"What joy." Axel mumbled and waited for the front door to close. When he heard the car start up and take off, the redhead kissed Roxas' head again. "I'll be here for you even if you dump me after taking to your old man. Friends to the end Roxas."
Axel sighed and lay his head back for a few minutes. He had a feeling that this peaceful moment was the calm before the true storm. He just hoped Roxas was strong enough to handle it all.
Ding dong
"He's here." Axel said to himself while Roxas' sleeping form trembled. Axel kissed his head one last time before he gently shook the blond awake.
"Roxas, Roxas, it's time to wake up." Axel cooed until the blond woke up with heavy eyes. "Roxas, we have to answer the door."
"Axel I want sleep." Roxas groggily said. The blond grumbled when he was force to sit up. It wants until he heard the door bell go off did he snap out of his daze. "H-he's here. I'm not ready." He shot up and tried to run for the back door, however, Axel was able to push back on the couch.
"Roxas' calm down. There is nothing he can do to hurt you. All you have to do is talk to him. I'll be right here with you." Axel kissed his boyfriend's lips as the door bell went off again.
Roxas nodded when Axel stood straight and went to answer the door. Roxas listened with baited breath as Ventus' giggled out Axel's name. He heard some talking but it was muffled. His heart raced when he heard the door shut and foot steps descend down the hall and enter the living room.
"Uncle Wasis!" Ven shouted and ran into the room until he collided with his uncle. "I missed you." The younger blond whined as he hugged his uncle.
"Ven." Roxas smiled and hugged him back. All anxiety forgotten because of the child's cheerfulness. "I missed you too."
"Roxas."
At the sound of the voice, Roxas froze and tensed up. Ever so slowly, Roxas turned his head and goggled over his shoulder at the tall man with short black hair and teal eyes, standing off to the side of Axel.
"Dad."
Yay for for cliff hanger. I'm going to say now that I was sad that I only got four reviews :( but it's my fault for taking so long to update. There's only about maybe three chapters left in this story. I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
