Chapter Eight

A Deal

Author's note and disclaimer: So obviously I'm updating this after getting back from my mental vacation. I got so much writing done its not even funny.

Also this might be another short one. Writing something involving pregnancy is new for me. So the details might be a bit lacking.

Himeno set down the last box with a thump just as Duo came walking in with another one.

"Hey!" Duo snapped, "What did the doctor say about lifting heavy objects?"

Himeno chuckled, "would you relax. This entire box is full of nothing but kitchenware; it's not even twenty pounds."

Duo pouted as Himeno pulled out a few plates to prove her point with an air smugness fluttering around her.

"The idiot is right though." Wufei chimed in appearing out of nowhere, "you should take it easy. The first few months are the ones where you need to be most the cautious."

"I know, I know." Himeno waved them off as she started to sort out the plates.

As the two went back outside to get the rest of the boxes Himeno remembered the doctor visit. All the warnings her doctor gave her, signs to look for just in case something went wrong and the details of how her days should go. All of it gave her headache, peering over at the bottles of prenatal medications and vitamins made her feel like a drug addict. She patted over her stomach and noted the firmness of the skin—a sign that the baby was growing.

Her doctor informed them that Himeno was about a month along, almost at two.

"Every pregnancy is different so we won't know if you'll have morning sickness or not. Don't panic when you do start to feel nauseous or even begin to vomit, it's all natural. However, if the vomiting gets worse—as in it goes all day—then you should go to the ER immediately. You'll get dehydrated quickly and that'll put stress on the baby."

Leaning up against the counter Himeno's eyes wandered around their new kitchen. She sighed at the shiny counter tops and floor. She didn't want to move out of Wufei's place at first, but he convinced her that they needed to do it now before she was too big to move around. He was joking about her getting big, but Himeno knew where her husband was coming from. The apartment was already small, but after adding a dog and then later on a child—their world was going to get even smaller.

Quatre had talked them into moving into a house that their family owned. At first Himeno and Wufei were uneasy— Quatre was always coming to their rescue, but he promised that he would sell the house to them. It made them feel better; at least they would be able to make it their own.

"Hey." Himeno jumped at the sound of Wufei's sudden voice whispering in her ear. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

Himeno stepped away from her husband to give them some space, placing her hand over her heart and then her stomach. She sighed gently, regaining her composure. Once Wufei sensed that she wasn't panicking he stepped forward and caressed her cheek, brushing his knuckles against her silk like skin. Their lips were inches away from each other and just as their romantic was about to deepen they were interrupted.

"You know, I'm pretty sure that's how Himeno got knocked up." Duo chimed in suddenly catching them off guard. Looking to their right the couple came eye to eye with the braided idiot wearing the biggest smirk on his face. Wufei's face turned red in seconds and stormed off cursing loudly about not having privacy and how Duo was being annoying.

After a few weeks past Wufei was over Duo's intrusion and the couple's life returned to normal. When they weren't at work the two were moving furniture around, it was mainly Wufei moving the furniture around because he was huge on Himeno not lifting anything heavy. If anything she just stood behind Wufei, guiding the position of the furniture. When they weren't at work or furnishing their house Himeno was drawing up plans for the baby's room. Wufei worked on training Calypso on the usual dog tricks—he decided that once the dog got bigger he would train her to protect his family if he was ever called away. So far Himeno hadn't reported on any baby progress, she was in the middle of the second month and Wufei thought that she might not have to deal with morning sickness.

Until one morning Wufei tossed to the side, attempting to run his hand over his wife's body, but she wasn't there. He didn't second guess why she was gone until he heard Calypso whimpering by the bathroom door. The light was on, the door was shut and even if the faucet running Wufei's trained ears could hear Himeno coughing and spitting. Throwing the blankets off his person he jumped over Himeno's side of the bed and was at the door within seconds. Upon enter he saw Himeno attached to the toilet like the time she got extremely wasted with Duo. Kneeling down beside her, Wufei rubbed her back in slow circles and cooed her into relaxing.

"Do you need anything?" He whispered while pulling some loose strands of hair out of her face.

She was barely able to get her demands out before another round of vomiting erupted, Wufei heard some of it and guess at the other things. He quickly gathered a huge glass of water, a hair tie and a damp rag. After tying her hair back into a messy bun and setting the water aside; Wufei dabbed at her neck and forehead with the rag—hoping it would help.

Once Himeno was sure this battle was over she relaxed against the tub and stared up at the ceiling. She closed her eyes and willed her breathing to level before she faced Wufei, who remained close to her. She felt the cool sensation of the rag against her cheek, she hummed underneath the touch. Wufei took her hand and place the cup on her palm and ordered her to drink it. Without hesitating Himeno downed the whole thing within seconds.

"Can you stand?" Wufei asked already grabbing Himeno's hands and helping her up. He guided her to the sink and started up the sink. After reassuring the nervous pilot that she could brush her teeth, Wufei went back to bed. He waited up for her though, his knees drawn up to his bare chest—the blanket crumpled at his feet. Himeno lazily flipped off the switch and shuffled back to bed. Curling up next to her husband, Himeno wrapped her arms around his body, using his heart beat as her lullaby. Wufei cradled her with his arm, while he skimmed through her hair—noting the slight fever she was running.

The next day Wufei tried to coax her into staying home. She didn't look as pale as she did early that morning, but she still looked like crap. But she refused to hear any of it. She couldn't exactly escape him, since they were driving, but Wufei was still trying to at least get her to take half of the day off until Himeno snapped.

"Wufei just stop!" She shouted, "I am pregnant, not sick. For all we know that gross thing could just happen during that time of day, okay. We don't know if it'll happen during the whole day or whatever else that stupid doctor said. I am not staying home or taking a half day unless I absolutely have to. I'm not going to be one of those pregnant women that use her pregnancy as an excuse to get out of shit! I don't want to hear any more of this, okay?"

Wufei was too stunned for words; Himeno had never raised her voice like that—especially to him. The last time she did was back during the war when she was a rebel leader and she only did it because one of her subordinates had seriously pissed her off.

Moments later Himeno realized her actions and began apologizing, "I'm sorry Fei, I didn't mean to yell."

"No, its fine," Wufei started. "You should do what you feel most comfortable with. I know I don't have to remind you that your health is not the only one that you're responsible for, but I still want you to do what you want. Just promise me that if you feel too weak to go into the office that you'll stay home and relax."

Himeno considered Wufei's proposal for a second, but she eventually agreed to it. Happily, Wufei accepted it, but a made a mental note to start buying lighter things for dinner and maybe run some questions by Sally before lunch.

Throughout the day Wufei checked in on Himeno, she never left her office, not even for lunch. She remained at her desk and filled out reports, searched through emails and organized her files. When he went to fetch her for lunch she was still sorting out her files and placing them in their proper homes. Wufei leaned against the frame of the door, arm crossed over his chest, he watched as her brow stiffened with annoyance. His laugh gave her away; she squeaked and almost dropped the papers.

"You need to stop doing that." Himeno didn't know if she should be angry or just laugh it off.

"I think the baby has siphoned your situational awareness." Wufei joked. He crossed the room and took the papers from her hands and places them on a nearby table, "what are you doing, anyway. You hate organizing and its lunch time. You never pass up a meal."

Himeno turned on her heels and ventured back to her chair, "I'm doing that for the poor asshole they'll get to replace me while I'm on my maternity leave."

Wufei's eyebrows stiffened in confusion, "you know that's not going to happen for a few more months, right?"

Himeno pouted angrily and turned away from Wufei to continue to cleaning out her desk.

"Or are you nesting?" Wufei asked with a know-it-all glare.

"What the fuck is nesting?"

"It's what mammals do when they're expecting. In an animal's case they gather twigs and grass to make a bed, but in a human's case the woman will clean and prepare an entire room for the child" Wufei felt he needed to add to his own knowledge, "and sometimes she'll drag the husband into doing the manual labor."

"Wufei Chang are you comparing me to an animal?" Himeno asked suspiciously.

"No I'm saying you're going to make me put together a crib that will lead to destruction." Wufei saved himself, gracefully walking over to his wife and perching himself on the edge of his desk.

"Where do you come up with this sh—stuff?" Himeno asked. She was attempting to watch her language—the last thing she wanted was her child inheriting her gift for cussing like a sailor.

Wufei blushed and mumbled, "I've been reading baby books."

Himeno started cackling loudly, throwing herself back in her chair and then realized her husband was being serious. "Sorry Fei."

He shrugged, "I'm at a loss when it comes to this kind of subject."

She rolled her eyes. Of course Wufei would turn to his old studying habits when he was clueless about something. The thought occurred to her to pick up some books about pregnancy; she was just too lazy to put some effort into that sort of thing. She started giggling to herself when nesting popped into her head, Wufei joined her.

"Could you imagine what the baby's room would like if I had it my way?" Himeno asked throwing some outrageous ideas out in the air, "the crib would be a tank, barb wire would line the ceiling and there would be bars locking the windows."

Wufei liked the idea of bars locking the windows because if their child was a girl there was no doubt in his mind that she would be as beautiful as her mother. He would have to beat the boys off with a stick or he would just shoot them. "Yea you're most definitely not decorating the baby's room."

Author's Note: Himeno decorating the baby's room is frightening. Please leave a review!
